The Unofficial In-Game Tip Suggestion Thread!

(Cross) #1

Hi everyone! Since I think the game is crying out for a few more tips for its loading screens (Oh really? Airstrike markers work as grenades?), i’d like to suggest we put our fingers where our mouths are and write some suggestions for Splash Damage to implement!
Rules of Thumb: Twitter rules apply, no tips over 137 characters. Stick to non-obvious things that the tutorial doesn’t teach, but which are handy, and mark out which merc your tip applies to, with [General] for tips that apply to everyone!

[General] You can double jump off walls to dodge shots and reach useful locations
[General] When you have your melee weapon out, your primary attack is a swift slash, while your alternate attack is a heavier one.
[Aura and Sawbonez] You can hold down your secondary skill button to charge your defibrillators, bringing allies back with more health.
[Phantom] Your Reflective Armor absorbs damage taken, at the cost of energy.
[General] Healing and resupplying yourself is less efficient than letting others do it for you.
[Redeye] Any enemies you spot with your IR Goggles are marked out for all your teammates.
[Skyhammer] Your Airstrike is called in at a 90 degree angle to where you threw the beacon from. Throw it at your enemies from the side for maximum impact.

(N8o) #2

[Medics in General] It is best to run with defibs out when anticipating death of team mates
[General (Augments)] You have to sprint then reload for Double Time to take effect.
[Fletcher] Fletcher.

(CCP115) #3

[General] Knife attacks are instagibs on downed players

(Kuygen) #4

[General] While in mid sprint if you tap crouch, immediately jump after, you will long jump (useful for closing grounds with melee, or just getting farther ahead faster and making some of the stunt jumps around the maps.)

(N8o) #5

[General] Apparently, C can be used for crouch instead of CTRL, which is news to me but is also very helpful

[General] Getting behind the attackers spawn on Chapel (first objective) is very easy and is extremely useful

[General] Missions aren’t as useful as people make it out to be, it can be far more profitable to do stopwatch (unless you are tight on time or your missions have to be done in objective). Stopwatch in general has less downtime between games and is also more fair if that is your thing. Though, be warned that a lot more experienced players play in stopwatch.

[General] Leveling stops growing in EXP requirement at lvl 20-21, where it stays at 400k exp.

[General] Try and learn all the jumps you can. They can lead to massive advantages in maps where you can get behind the enemy and catch them by surprise.

[General] Get good.

[General] On the last objective on Chapel, try and sneak the first EMP charge behind the enemy while they are still up in your spawn. Nobody tends to run back because they are too busy playing TDM.

[Fletcher] Your bombs tend to jump between dimensional rifts and vanish suddenly. Don’t get too mad, they may come back one day.

(KattiValk) #6

[General]Never move your head where the enemy thinks it will be. Jumping and crouching while strafing wins fights.

[General]If you can’t say it with roses, a machine gun, or grenades, then it don’t need saying!

[General]Aim small, hit small.

[General]People don’t tend to expect the flank the first time, the second however…

[General]Never assume the enemy can’t see you if you’re in their LOS. Glowing red figures are hard to miss.

[Fletcher]Always switch to your bomb (4 key) because the hotkey throw is slower than a crouch walking Rhino.

[Kira]Call in a laser at the start of the game and pile as many bodies under it as you can. It totally increases your chances of winning.

[Bushwacker]Turrets will not lock onto an enemies behind chest high cover.

[Sawbonez]Your packs stop healing when the user takes too much damage.

[Nader]Direct impact is best impact.

(RyePanda) #7

[General] 2 players can’t repair at once. If someone is repairing and you can’t repair faster, guard them.

(Neb) #8

[General] If you connect to a game and the enemy team is all 2k+ score and your team is all 100, leave before your head explodes.

(Frogteam) #9

[General] You can destroy secondary objectives (like generators) with damage instead of C-4, this is especially useful for attacking on Bridge for second objective, stop trying to rush the barrier room, and just start throwing grenades in it.

[Fire Supports] Direct hits with ammo packs reduce your allies’ ability cooldowns (I forgot how much -_- I think 20% though.).

[Arty] You can shoot out ceiling glass in most places, allowing you to call down artillery in normally unavailable places. (They fixed all the glasses that weren’t working right?)

[Chapel] You can shoot through the bus’ windows on the last objective. Nuff said.

[Teams with bad Fire Supports] You can press ‘K’ to get ammo. (This works best when the respawn timer is between 1-3 seconds)

[Bad Fire Supports] Giving your team ammo helps you top the leaderboards so you can brag about your 1337 skills.

Some cool suggestions in here, people! Some absolutely worthless ones too, but eh, it’s the internet. Keep 'em coming!

(AirborneAsian) #11

[General] Quickly tap Ctrl a lot of times in quick succession on of of anyone, and the merc you are playing will say funny dialogue. This is also known as being a ‘Dick,’ according to the developers of Dirty Bomb.

This one is simply not true.
While SW have bigger rewards, it also take proportionally more time. In terms of earning there is no notable difference between SW and OBJ.
Also, if MM fails in SW, then player is stuck with that for 2 whole rounds. Also it generally means that one of the rounds ends real fast.
Only good thing about SW is to play same map twice in a row.

Packs stop healing when player takes any hostile damage, period.

Only 1 player can repair at ony given time(any additional players nearby will just make area a sweater target). “First come, first serve” rule.
However, any of tech mercs(Proxy, Bushwhacker, Fletcher) have priority over non-tech mercs. Eg if EV is being repaired by Skyhammer and Proxy comes along, she will take over repairing function. Between 2+ tech mercs, same rule “first come, first server” applies.
If you see “Teammate is repairing” message(or whatever it was), GO AWAY. You are not helping in any way, but draw additional hostile attention.
This rule applies to any repairable objective, be it EV, generator or ramp.

(Zita) #13

[General] If your hack has been activated leave now as you have been spotted.
[General] Your hack has been spotted, you have been repoted.

(More useful then the currect AC.)

I am not saying to not do them. Also, SW doesn’t have any difference to OBJ, since the base credit fee is always 12/min or 1/5 sec, but there is considerably less downtime between games I feel when it comes to stopwatch. The more time you have ingame, the less time you have out of it. It’s just personal opinion, but maybe I will test it over time.
But yea, you are right on the match making ordeal. It seems that it can bone you quite a lot.

(Mister__Wiggles) #15

In the console commands you can bind long jump to one key instead of having to crouch jumping. For example I use left alt so I typed this in the console, ‘setbind LeftAlt “Duck | Jump” 1’
To use this make sure you don’t have any other key bound to your button of choice. To bring up the console press the home button or the apostrophe key.

That’s not always the case. Body blocking is a very valuable tactic, though this applies to C4 plants and defuses more so than repairs.

“THE END IS NEVER THE END IS NEVER THE END IS NEVER THE END IS NEVER THE END”

(SirFrancelot) #18

[General] If the EV is close to being disabled, use your primary weapon to finish it off and save your high damage abilities.

[General] When escorting the EV, the more players that are next to it, the faster it will move.

[General] If you’re about to plant C4 on an objective, check for mines or other deployables before rushing in and triggering them.

(MTLMortis) #19

[General] v-2-2 to ask for ammo

[General] v-2-1 to ask for a medic

[General]You must be within range of the E.V. to escort it

[General] There is generally never a downside to doing repeated kamikaze runs with fast mercs (Proxy/Aura)

[General] Bullets from your gun damage the E.V. No need to wait for explosives

[General] Shooting the E.V. while it is disabled does nothing

[General] Do not quit a stopwatch match because you got stomped or blocked, you get no points

[General] Do not buy loadout cards, buy mercs, use your excess cash for trade-ups

[General] Do not try and plant/disarm/repair if an objectivist (Proxy, Bushwhacker, Fletcher) is doing it

[General] Stop planting/disarming/repairing if an objectivist starts doing it

[General] If no one is playing medic, suck it up and just do it. You are the difference between a win or a fail.

[General] communicate, communicate, communicate. Use your microphone

[General] While holding an objective switch to your main weapon by pressing 1

[Bushwhacker] Do not put your turret covering long stretches of corridor

[Nader] Do not immediately auto-hit 'f" when down. Wait to use it when an enemy is near.

[Aura] You get points for dropping a health station, do so every reset, even if only to put in the same place

[Skyhammer/Arty] ammo, ammo, ammo, ammo, drop ammo, Do not drop them in spawn

and lastly

[General] Always finish your kills with a cricket bat to their pee pee

(Lisjak) #20

[combat] If you hate that sprint cancels your reload you can change it in options.

[combat] With most weapons you don’t need to aim down sights as the spread is almost the same (except long distance shots)

[general] Drop me some ammooo!

[movement] You run faster with your pistol out, you run fastest with the knife.
