The Still Unaddressed Problem of Simultaneous Repairing and Defusing

(RyePanda) #1

Once again, we’ve had another patch come.

And still, nothing done to effectively convey to players that 2 players repairing or Defusing at the same time is not more effective than one player.

Possible Solutions:

Next update give every player a pop up when they log in explaining the mechanics behind repairing and defusing.

If a player is repairing while another player started first or is faster, instead of telling them “teammate repairing” tell them “A teammate is repairing, you are not helping” in a red and larger font.

Ideally, both of these would be implemented. Either way, this has been brought up before and I’m tired of not seeing action on this issue.

Please make it!

They won’t do it anyways so…

Anyone ever used an admin hack tool in Arma 2 Dayz?

There was an awesome feature where you could ‘slap’ a selected player, which would move them 10-20 to the side, while having some russian dude laughing at them.

That’d be a great addition, people would stop stack repairing / defusing if they were laughed at in high volume and slapped around the map.

I had 4 people repairing at once. On ranked. I was the only engineer.

Something tells me that no matter how loudly you tell them, they won’t stop.

(TheGreatHoundini) #6

Doesn’t it already say: “TEAMMATE REPAIRING”?

(straightforwardMacadamia) #7

Doesn’t stop people from sitting a whole team around the EV, trying to repair it.

(HunterAssassin5) #8

no. dont. dont fix this, i want my team-wiping lazors to stay XD

okay, seriously, it’s a f*cking annoyance that really should be something we all laugh at when talking about the game’s early days by now.

(frostyvampire) #9

But if you do it I won’t be able to get an ace with a single Arty strike

(BananaSlug) #10

you forgot that people usually skip pop ups

I don’t think it should come up as a pop up saying a teammate is repairing and you are not helping.

What should pop up is a defend icon above the person repairing and players should be given extra XP for getting kills while defending the person.

Better to give an incentive for defending.

what they could is add an objective specialist section much like the assault course. I say like the assault course because while a part of the game players don’t start out having access to a specialist unless it is on free rotation. new players do have access to Skyhammer and Aura which I think is why they are in the turtorial.

(Szakalot) #15

simple change: you can’t press ‘f’ when a teammate is repairing.

Perhaps not so simple to implement, or they would have done it already.

NO surprise people think they are repairing - their weapon disappears and they see the progress bar increasing. How are they supposed to know its actually an engy doing the job on the other side of the EV xd

(hawkeyeguy99) #16

I don’t think it’s the stacking of repairs that the problem, it’s how XP is distributed or plants/repairs. The reason multiple people plant/defuse/repair (imo) is they all want that game mode XP for their mission. What needs to be communicated is that you do not earn XP for repairing at the same time as your teammate. That’s not clearly communicated.

(Amerika) #17

Yeah, I’ve never understood why you don’t get a message saying your teammate is repairing accompanied by a client voice trigger telling the player somebody else is repairing and to cover them. I get that there is an argument that you allow multiple people to repair so that people can pick it up without losing any repair time if somebody is killed but if people were actually covering the person that would be a lot more successful.

I’ve honestly never heard a good argument against a change like that.

(Dagasawr) #18

I think its something you learn over time but i think it would stop toxic players giving out abuse about it to new players if SD said it from step one

(Dagasawr) #19

@Amerika I’ve seen one of the devs talk about multi repairs/defusing apparently there to far deep in to development to change it.

(jokingShale) #20

It’s not obvious enough. They still see the little progress bar and have the feeling they’re the ones making it happen.
