Sounds fine to me. Good way to encourage making the kills count or for newbies to gib.
The Sparks Update (v29926)
It’s easy to see an OP mercs cause after few days of testing everyone use it
^this. It’s sad really. gotta pad stats to make themselves feel better.
she’s clearly OP. the ability to pewpew all day long without bothering to rev, or pack teammates and one shot people in the domepiece is a bit silly. obviously headshots arent “easy” but the weapon itself is, and overall as a medic, she’s useless.
Separate executions from downing an enemy.
Doing it any other way than that or the way it is done currently is just ass backwards
So what can be done about it? It’s really very simple: Instead of calculating kills/deaths when a player is fragged, calculate them when a player is gibbed. By that I don’t meant that the player who gibs the incapped player should get the kill. I mean that the kill shouldn’t be added to the scoreboard until the player is gibbed. If the player is revived, then no kill/death will be recorded for that particular frag.
If there is zero to little value in fragging and not gibbing, then this suggestion is fine. However this isnt really the case. That also applies to previous SD titles, where revive rates were significantly higher.
Lol ! A frag is a frag dude ! and a gib is a gib !
Whatever BF did that and some 95% assit = 1 frag … I just hate this.
And yes Sparks is clearly OP, some overheat or something is needed, and 1 shot after a charge shot keep 50% more damage than a normal shot.
It’s easy to see an OP mercs cause after few days of testing everyone use it, and if they keep using it instead of using theyre favorite OP merc (who say fragger ?)
I think he is overpowered to. Just increase the charge time and make it shoot not as fast. finished…
Didn’t see too many Sparks in a few hours of playing last night, seemed to me like most people have tried her and now gone back to what they prefer.
Having said that an overheat mechanism wouldn’t do any harm, as someone pointed out above, a weapon that doesn’t need to be reloaded is always going to have an advantage against one that does, irrespective of any other considerations. All you have to do as Sparks is not die till the other guy runs out of ammo, then its a free kill.
Or use Sparks as a benchmark to elevate the other characters to. Fighting against Sparks basically means fighting against your own ammo clip. That creates an interesting dynamic between characters due to the different clip sizes.
I think that’s a fun little function. A ‘weak’ class that you want to kill before your clip runs out or you’re screwed.
Especiallly when you move towards engages with more than two players you get interesting mechanics.
I’ve yet to see anyone perform better at fragging with Sparks than with the default “combat mercs”. I’ve played her a fair bit over the past three days, but round by round my k/d is far worse than what it is whenever I play as Skyhammer, Stoker, Fragger or Thunder. Most of the people playing as Sparks struggle to even get a positive k/d, and as someone else remarked above, most quickly return to playing some other merc.
Her revivr is actually very powerful, but I guess people don’t understand how to use it or something? **** knows how that’s even possible, this isn’t rocket science. Yes, it does revive with less hp than the other medics, but that doesn’t matter much when the revived player still gets a revive shield, and when the Sparks player is never in any real danger while reviving. As long as you position yourself correctly, you can pretty much endlessly revive players. Even if they die on the first two revives, they still survive and frag on the third revive because the other team has to reload. It’s extremely powerful as a meatgrinding device.
than you’re playing with some bads tbh. everytime i use her i have a 3/1 ratio, and other decent players that use her sit back and rape. its a bait class with almost nothing of value as a med.
That’s just not true, the revive gun is a fantastic tool that any other Medic would sell his Grandmother to have.
Reviving people by just shooting them? No need to switch to another tool? No danger of being caught with de-fibs in hand when a bad guy comes round the corner? Can revive from miles away? It’s the most powerful revive tool ever invented!
Of course, if you only play Medic so you can pack yourself between pwning noobs …
except that it revives people with no health of value and it takes forever to charge if you’re in the middle of a firefight. at least with paddles you can maneuver, rev, and continue fighting. with the gun, you have to stop fighting, charge, aim, hopefully hit your target, and get back into the fight. its worthless
I half agree with this but sparks is like a sniper medic and you should be in the back sniping people and snipe reviving people always at a full charge or at least that is how he plays now. Saw can be on the front line doing some other healing while you are in the back sitting on medic packs.
It sucks you revive people with no HP or a shield right now but that will change.
As for AIMING and hitting the person to revive I was laughing my ass off because some guy missed me twice!!! He got a little closer each time I was like OMG HAHAHAHAHA! Aiming is part of the game well it is the game haha and if you cant hit a body that is on the ground not moving then maybe this is the the game for them haha.
The problem with the game right now is there is suck a large skill gap with some players. We have some really really good shots and then a few terrible players that want to see what this game is all about and are getting steam rolled by the better players and /quitting. There’s not enough people on or keys so the servers can be balanced right now so hard to keep servers full plus the spread is not cool along with the maps and performance lag.
The skill difference is definitely a problem. Nothing to do about it until we get an influx of new beta invitations, unfortunately. It does feel bad clowning on the weaker players, though. When you’re sitting there with 30-5 or some other ridiculous k/d and the entire opposite team has negative k/d, with some sitting at 1/17 or whatever, it’s pretty obvious that you’re the only one on the server having fun.
I am very interesting in this ranking system and once the spread, lag and maps are fixed how the best players will match up against each other.
It will be interesting to see what classes really shine and see if SD’s Fragger should kill all mentality will hold up with I dont think it will.

It is more like soldier-combat focused types just have an advantage over other classes that when considered in a vacuum has the fragger kill all. This just makes sense since they are going for a character focused gameplay so some characters have to excel in combat, whereas others excel at other things. That doesn’t mean the “combat specialist” always wins, but merely has an advantage on an otherwise even toe to toe fight that statistically means they win. The size of that advantage is probably going to be hard to get perfect, at least now with the lower player count. They’ll probably get it pretty close to the point where they don’t need to make major adjustments in open beta, but small adjustments that can move a character from seemingly too good to just right.
Is this a case of “I can’t play the merc well so it’s automatically crap”? I’ve seen plenty players do very well in both attacking and medic duties, your limits aren’t the mercs limits.
yes baiting corners and distance fighting is tough. that must be it. reading comprehension instead of terrible flame baiting is more valuable capt “captures the magic of et”
she has her uses, they just arent as a medic compared to the other mercs. used in conjunction, maybe, but even than whats the point? might as well any of the others
I’d like to be able to fire off another full charge and heal a teammate for some appropriate value.
whats about a healthpack throw weapon.
kind of proximity mine launcher of quakelive.
