The real "n00b weapon". No not panzer FG-42!!!

(Jahuu) #1

FG-42 is completely useless for a covop, reasons:

1.In close battle Sten beats it.
2.In long range (sniping) K43 or Garand beats it.
3.It blows your cover (no silencer)

So basically whenever I see a covop with this I know he is a n00b. Especially if he is “sniping” with it.

So can you give any reason or justification for using FG-42?

The only good thing in it is that it is a n00b detector!

In a close combat you have usually better chances to kill an enemy with the FG42, since it has a higher fire rate and it doesn’t overheat.

OK, but its good enough for a little bit sniping now and then (and you can fire faster whilest scoped as with the K43/Garand).

That can also be an advantage: when you need a new disguise (for what reason ever). You don’t have to switch to pistol, take off the silencer and fire a single shot to lose your current disguise.

1.Well yeah but you have smaller clip.
2.Well yes but you have to hit some 6 times more with the FG-42.
3.These times are more rare than those where you actually benefit from not losing the disguise while shooting. Besides you should always take the silencer off at spawn, at least I always do. (K43/Garand and sten have silencers, so I don´t need a silenced pistol.)

Ragnar, do you use FG-42?

It really depends on the role you are playing as CO.

If you are trying to support the assault force by laying smoke and offering cover fire, the FG42 works fine. I find that too many COs waste time sniping when they would be of more use spotting mines, laying smoke, or blowing CPs. If you wanna be a sneaky sniper, the FG42 is useless. If you wanna be mister sneaky uniform stealer, then the sten is probably a good choice.

I rarely select CO as a class, but I usually choose the FG42. I don’t lonewolf as a sniper or creep around the rear in the enemy uniform. I run with the assault teams and try to support them directly.

Hmm not True.

  1. See the sten over heats so at level 1 Light weapons you can reload faster than the sten cools down…
  2. again Wrong you have to hit same amount roughly (the FG does a bit more damage) also it does a load more scoped so you pop 1 off scoped 1st ;):-
    FG-42 damage=15/30/50
    Sten damage =14/30/50
Opps read what you put wrong but i ent deleting it
But you say FG has to hit 6 times more than a Garand… Wrong, i have never fired more than 3 (4 for a high level medic) to kill some one and if i hit them in the head its 2 shots (like the Garand)

I always used to use a FG when i 1st started out and i used to think it was so cheap, it was like a machine gun…
when i tried a sten it is almost impossible to kill a “good” high level medic as you over heat before you do anough damage, were as a FG i won 80% time…

Since i found out the Sten is silenced and dosnt give you away, i have started to use that, but to be honest i have started to kill a lot less people… I rather the Garand than the Sten to shot people (i mean at close range and not as a sniper)…

The fg42 is the best weapon for medium range sniping, especially if you have the other team in a bottle neck. For instance, if you have some support in the tunnel in siwa you can do a good job of mowing down the allies. It’s also much more forgiving then the sniper rifles, if you miss then shoot again and you don’t have much re-aiming to do.

FG-42 is a very good weapon. Get close and unload a clip before the enemy knows your coming, or semi-snipe at medium/long range. Its sniping mode isn’t quiet as good as the rifles, but it can often get the job done faster for single targets, like engies or a medic.

Don’t get me wrong, I normally use the k43 or sten when I play covert ops, but the fg42 ain’t bad.

(Ragnar_40k) #8

That depends: when I expect close combats I usually choose the FG42, when I expect long range fights I choose the Sten. And usually I don’t snipe (only sometimes on Battery).

hmm, Walbanger

Wrong, i have never fired more than 3 (4 for a high level medic) to kill some one and if i hit them in the head its 2 shots (like the Garand)

now come on ian, you have never fired more than 4 shots to kill? that is obviously not true.

lets face it, all the weapons have their uses, as has been pointed out here.

and covert op’s kick ass

BUT NOT AS MUCH AS _NeT_Clan

(Pamper) #10

LOL, you can’t seriously believe that? The Allies you play against must be the yellowest people ever if they can’t beat a FG42 in the tunnel. If you know he’s there, you can take him with a Thompson. It only takes one shot (then his aim is totally off). Some players are too stupid or cowardly to run down a sniper, but it’s easy if you try.

For mowing Allies in the tunnel, there’s only one real choice.

(Azarael) #11

let me rephrase that:
you need some SUPPORT in the tunnel. As in 2 other players making sure the allies stay occupied so you can shoot them. Sure a couple good players can beat this strategy, but I figure you can get at least a few kills out of it before you get panzered or something.

(Jahuu) #12

Well yeah I agree FG-42 is for those going with the team, but I use the following strategies:

1.Go with sten and a disguise, go behind enemy lines, spot mines, satchel everything, make a few kills.

2.Go with K43/Garand and spot mines, snipe a few.

These two tactics include the most important: SPOT MINES

You can very seldomly do this, while going in an attack group.

(_NeT_WalBanger) #13

Well some of can Aim ;)… its 60 points of damage a shot in the head so 3 shots=180 and you can fire really fast so 1 dead body in 1sec maybe 2 on a bad day…

(petameta) #14

The FG42 actually is a good weapon - I use it always when I play CovOps, what I do most of the time. CovOps is my favorite class, and i’m very good at it. The only bad enemies are Medics and Engineers with rifle grenades, which are both overpowered I think, but that’s a different story …

Because you can’t play with it, it’s not a bad weapon.
