Catalyst 11.5b and latest SD update: experience

Still freezing. Due to the latest SD update its only half as often, but still at least three times per mission(not map). After I press crtl+alt+del the fourth or fifth time my card can’t recover at all and I have to reboot my whole system. My fps are actually quite fine but Brink causes my swap file(500MB) to overflow after a while(15-20min). So I increased the swap file size to 1,5Gigs. No further problems there. But still freezing.

Why is there no official statement from SD concerning the performance and freeze issue? We just want to know, so we can understand. Its corwardish to take cover behind useless patches. Tell us, what’s up and we will understand, but please show your face, as you did for the promotion of Brink. I want to trust you and at the moment you can give me as much new maps for free as you want. I can’t play them. By now my copy of Brink is nothing more than a small fresbee in a fresbee case.

Say it can be fixed in 2 months or not at all, fine. But please say something. The last twelve days I’m doing nothing other in my free-time than installing and de-installing fixes and catalysts and posting in this forum.

I don’t care about my invested money or refunds, I just want my life back. But I can’t stop trying everything possible to get this program running. I’m too stubborn to just give up. So please tell me Its broken beyond repair or it will take another couple months for you, SD, to fix this whole thing thoroughly.
Say it, give us something to work with.

I allready included my complete DxDiag file in the very first post I wrote and “conversed” a little with Crispy. And you can see my setup in my signature. I use the 11.5b driver now, and the one stated in the file is probably the 11.5aRC3 I think. Aside from that I still have the same problems.

I understand when people are complaining about whiners wich are spamming the Forum threads, but all those wiseguys out there can’t stop their wise cracking either. What is it with you guys, why aren’t you playing the friggin game and let those people wich can’t alone? I’ve played AvP3 for over 350 hours now and it runs like $hit. I never, not once posted something in a forum since everything is fine. I prefer to com from work, eat something, chill or sleep a few minutes, frag the hell out of virtual chars for aproximitly an hour and than switch to being a little creativ on my side and start painting or drawing.

That’s how I spend my evenings. Did anyone spot the word forum anywhere there? No? See, cause I’m not a community guy, I don’t play in a clan, I just want to get stress free by virtual fraggin and hunting.
When a game like AvP3 runs smooth you won’t see a single post from me in the respective forum.

Is there anything that happen all the time when it freezes. Could you try and disable your soundcard from device manager. see if it still freezes.

Howabout your PSU? If you don’t have enough power or a ****ty PSU in general it is known to cause problems like freezes when it runs out of juice for the GFX.

*but yeah the problem is most likely with your ATI card that is still having issues, since i can play this with my 2 year old gaming laptop just because it has nvidia, without any crashes (p9700, gtx260m).

I use a, by now, 1 1/2 year old 580W power supply from be quiet. And opposed to your suggestion, the sound is the only thing that’s allways still running, no matter what.

Aha, and I thought I started this thread, but probably it was you and I’m going loony?!

But to your information. I’m posting for almost 2 weeks now in tech threads and no one could help me the tinyest bit. The only thing that “improved” Brink for me was the latest patch from SD and the 11.5RC5, but when I say “improve” I mean it freezes now every four to five minutes opposed to every 1 1/2 minute and faster.

Even though this is “MY” official whine thread, I give up, since I can’t keep you people from “helping” me. So, feel free to make my day.

Lozimur, Lozimur, I wish, no, I hope, really hope, that you will, at one day, buy a game that you where looking forward to for years, watched every bit of promo material and read many of the pre release interviews, just to find out, that the game you just received is absolutely unplayable. And then, when you start to complain in the respective forums you where accused to be a whiner, and than when you accept the fact, that you are probably a whiner since everybody is calling you one, I mean you are complaining? over a product that’s broken? Why should you be anything else but a whiner, and so you accept that and start your own thread, just to find out that you aren’t even save there. The wiseguys will find you and they will wise crack the $hit out of you and they will make fun of you and they will say things like;

And phoenix, what’s wrong with you? How does it hurt you when I start my own thread? Did anyone force you to read it. I wrote in every thread, that fits my concern, but so far zippo. Why in hell should anyone close my thread. Ever heard of the freedom of speech. I explained my problem so many times and so thouroghly I just wan’t to get rid of my personal frustration.
I guess you can’t understand my prblems since you are one of the guys wich are complaining abut low frames when you have 40 fps. But as lozimur I wish you a utterly broken game you can’t get running for weeks or forever. I wish you that from the bottom of my heart. Really.

Also did you correctly uninstall and clean before applying new drivers…? in safe mode…?

Well seriously dude stop.

You cannot blame the game when you can’t rule out the GPU first.

I have experienced the same problem with other games, months of headaches and frustration cause I beleived the game was at fault and not my hardware.

I have seen plenty of GPU’s seem to function OK , but then crap out under pressure.

Borrow a GPU from a friend and test, then post back with your results

Yes, yes, yes, everytime. Every freakin time, I can’t tell you how often I de-installed the catalyst, shut down the system, reboot in safe mode, use driver cleaner, shut down, reboot, apply newest catalyst, shut down and finally reboot the whole thing again.

I’ve tried EVERYTHING, old drivers, new drivers, hotfixes, alternative drives, tweaked my settings in Brink, switched over to my secondary monitor(main1920x1080, secondary 1280x1024), played around with the catalyst settings. N-O S-U-C-C-E-S. Nada.
