The new merc: what do we know?

(Press E) #1

I haven’t seen any thread like this yet, so I guess I’ll make one.

  1. She’s female as evident by her hands. And following the trend of female mercs in DB, she’s probably under 120 HP. She seemed fairly fast too.
  2. The same logo on Sparks’ revifle is also on her weapons
  3. She has a drone, as shown by SD’s recent tease (unless the drone is somehow completely unrelated) https://twitter.com/DirtyBomb/status/915214774782349312/video/1
  4. The drone in the video flies low to the ground
  5. She uses at least one assault rifle, but it’s like the hochfir of SMGs
  6. She seems to be electric themed. Look at her gloves, batons, and otherwise futuristic weaponry and stuff

What can we speculate from this?

  1. She may potentially be a recon class like phantom. It would be the most obvious use for a drone. However, you’d think a recon drone would fly fairly high up, which makes me suspicious. Nothing else about her seems to suggest recon either, but then again, we don’t have much. I also have a hard time believing SD would really need another spotting ability, especially since this one seems quite large and easy to shoot at compared to a heartbeat sensor.
  2. The assault rifle is almost like an SMG, which would make sense in the medic pool. It also fits with her electric theme and the logo. If she is a medic, one theory is that her drone could be a sort of pocket healing device to follow around teammates, however it looks more like it’s scanning for something in the video.

I’d be interesting in hearing your theories on this too

I’m going with another engineer or medic. I don’t think recon suits what we’ve seen from her whatsoever aside from the possibility of that being a spotting drone. But we did just get Turtle so…

You forgot about the name on the gloves. ‘Jeongi’ in Korean means electricity, and paired with an electric bolt on the glove, proves that the new merc is electric based/themed (also Pirin Medical is the company that made Sparks rifle, which provides evidence for it being an electricity based medic  ).

The name also provides evidence that she’s Korean. Plus, the background image of the Ghostclip Update shows someone in a labcoat that looks kind of Korean, could be the new Medic.

My best guess is that she’s an offensive medic like Sawbonez, but on the quicker side and with weapons that have lower damage. I’m guessing that she’ll get the Hochfir and the kek as alt primaries.

I’m kinda blank on the ability. Her glove has electric wires on it, so I that might also be part of her ability. I have no clue what the drone would do, might be some sort of single-target, constant healing ability.

drone looks like it has a trophy system on it

(Guziol) #5

My guess is that it’s eaither a medic drone or some EMP stuff and she is an engineer. I’m convinced she is not a fire support, recon and very very unlikely an assault.

(Sorotia) #6

I would love for it to be some kind of offensive drone but odds of that happening are small.

Maybe Medic…scanning for injured teammates?

(TheStrangerous) #7

Recon type would be redundant. Since Heartbeat sensor beats it in utility.

Healing drone? Basically walking health station.

EMP? Ugh… could be? But Phantom himself is a better walking EMP (which he shouldn’t be by the way, very counter productive to his camo, but that’s the story for another thread)

Can’t really wrap my head around how an AI could be useful. Or maybe we control it?

I doubt she’s an engineer, we did just get turtle after all and it would be strange to see another one so soon when SD could release another merc.
New medics have been some of the most requested mercs, and if SD has been listening then it would make more sense than another recon merc. But it’s worth noting that recon doesn’t always mean spotting or emp ability, it could be something completely different.
I doubt they’d go with an emp ability too. Phantom was given an emp to make him more useful, giving that ability to another merc would remove 50% of the reason to play him. Not to mention act as an indirect nerf to deployable based mercs.
The drone certainly didn’t look offensive either, so an assault merc is pretty much ruled out, especially with her weapons.

A healing drone is my best guess. SD has been known to add redundant abilities before. I mean, the rocket and frag grenade, heartbeat sensor and snitch, etc. But like I said, it could be basically a pocket medic bot. Imagine a drone that follows behind a player and heals them until it gets destroyed.
Another possibility is a mobile medstation. But having your med station wander out of cover seems bad, so it could be commanded a bit like moving kira’s laser?

I personally kinda doubt she’s the scientist in the javelin screenshot background. There’s no reason every random person has to be a merc after all.

So aimee cant have a 3rd eye but this merc can have a f!@#$% drone with a camera

(GatoCommodore) #10

from color scheme

i bet shes a medic
also SD probably read so many drones in the merc suggestion feed

(Guziol) #11

I also think it’s unlikely but it might be a objective based drone. Defusing bombs, repairing EV’s and generators.

(Mr.Cuddlesworth) #12

Remote controlled revive drone? Can also spy on enemy locations? Like the CamSpy from Perfect Dark

Would seem pretty impractical though. I mean, it’s an easy target for one. I’d rather set up a busnwanker turret and do the obj myself. I can’t imagine it having a lot of health.

We have no information to suggest that it’s for spying on people.
Like I said, it flies very low to the ground which further suggests it isn’t for recon.

And there’s still the same reason aimee didn’t get a 3rd eye cam in the first place; it’s impractical as hell.

(Your worst knifemare.) #14

Could be a pocket healer like others said or it could go around reviving people. Only thing I see its recon use is as trophy system.

(Mr-Penguin) #15

I’m gonna guess either rez drone or, more likely, healing drone, as the latter fills the “ranged healing” niche that none of the other medics really fill (unless you’re playing Sparks with FF on…).

(FishRolls) #16

She could be an engineer, and have a drone that can repair/defuse/plant objectives.

Like I said, it wouldn’t really make much sense if you think about it.
I mean, it would be a very easy target on most objectives, OP if it did objectives too quickly, useless if it did objectives too slowly (might as well just go bush, put a turret up and then plant yourself), etc.
Even if you somehow managed to get past all those issues, it would still be an extremely niche item, especially outside of pubs.

Having two engineers come out so soon when most people have been screaming medic for ages is a bit weird too

(azz_abdr) #18

assault medic, with drones that heal teammates
Assault Medic:

Well… that’ll be another meta shift… Supply mini ammo and healing packs?

Please be a medic!!
