The Limey look?

(SnipingMeerkat) #1

Can anyone send a link to what the limey may look. A traditional european police outfit is a bit vague and each country has a different uniform.

(zenstar) #2

This would be my guess.
Especially since “Limey is an old slang nickname, often pejorative, for the British…”

(SnipingMeerkat) #3

Cool thanks, since im British, i suspected it to be something like that and because splash damage is an English company it would match. Anyway thanks for the picture

(zenstar) #4

No problem. That’s just a random shot i found searching for “london bobby”. Nothing official but I’d guess something like that. Maybe with a propper 'stache too

(sparky) #5

That’s not much of a vest on him. He wouldn’t last 10 minutes in the South Bronx.

(Hot-Wire) #6

Shhhh don’t say that. He looks so proud of it.

(Exedore) #7

He’s also got no gun.

(zenstar) #8

careful or he’ll use his pepper spray.
Oh look: someone’s already made off with his handcuffs. I guess he can keep some hard sweets in the handcuff holster or something.

(dazman76) #9

He’s simply fearless - if you hadn’t noticed from the photo, he’s actually in the UK equivalent of the South Bronx - except it’s twice as violent. In fact, there are a gang of gun-toting knife-wielding hoodlums in the pick-up, just waiting for the right time to steal his helmet. We have violent crime here too you know!

(Serval) #10

You don’t need to build a door like that unless you’re expecting trouble.

(zenstar) #11

He might also have a gun locked in the safe in the car. And if he radios it in, and is under fire then they’ll probably give him permission to take it out.

Yeah… I never really got how gunshy the government is here. They’re only disarming the victims. Criminals don’t follow the law so they’ll “tool up” anyway and the laws obviously haven’t kept guns out of the country since there are plenty of gun crimes and crims with guns.

/shrug politics.

(Smoochy) #12

thats just a beat cop, not even a big town one as they normally wear body armour. beat cops have the silly hats, they normally wear a cap similar to the US cops

of course if everyone in the good ol’ US of A wasnt a gun toting psycho you might not need all that armour… but we know most of you love your guns!

our riot police look like this:

of course this is all bollocks as limey was more commonly used for english ww2 soldiers when the yanks finally arrived a few years late

our armed police look like this:

bomb-squad:

love the chinese police:

(Smoochy) #13

cant be a london bobby as he would be pestering a black guy or beating up a protester!

(dazman76) #14

I think the kind of trouble that door was designed for, died out when we officially made friends with the French  lol

It’s the best policy really - the shrug. Don’t try to understand politics, lest it turn into a desire to be involved in politics. Then you’re screwed

(Smoochy) #15

 and our crims are all cowards with guns.

take away the guns from US gangsters and the UK guys would kick their asses

btw - we have guns here too, just big penalties for shooting people (shock) and they are much harder to get hold of that in the USA

Yeah… there are some better looking cops around but I’m still putting my money on the “bobby” as the model we’ll be getting.

According to old wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limey
The term comes from sailors and lime juice. Although it just means “British” nowadays.

And UK still does not have the world’s scariest looking cops. But then their normal way of controlling the situation is by superior numbers and dragging the crim to the ground with a cop on each limb (I’m talking beat cops and night cops… not specialists here). Completely different mentality to armed policing.

Which is more effective? That’s an entirely different conversation

EDIT:

Mostly shotguns and rifles though. They’re super uptight about pistols. And our penalties are lenient compared to the penalties in the USA I believe.

Totally agree. Someone wise once said something along the lines of “Anyone who wants to become a politician shouldn’t be allowed to become one.”

yup, vote for red idiots, blue toffs (posh people) or orange fools… the choice is endless over here! ive tried to get into politics (im 36, i see how changes affect me and my family) but you just end up getting angry!

still the yanks vote for elephants etc  at least they got someone decent in at the minute. i saw a comedy TV show the other night and the question was “what is george bush senior’s favourite type of vegetable?” - someone replied “his son”

(Overgear) #18

I wondered what he’d look like too but you can’t judge a bobby based on his uniform. You should see the guys we have on Night Cops. They don’t take anything from no one. Real Hardasses.

yeah, limey was from when we ruled the world and nobody wanted to sell us lemons, i think they helped stop scurvy, so we had limes instead, which werent as good.

i learn more from watching QI on Dave (tv channel) than when i was at school!

(Smoochy) #20

agreed. UK cops have to have to have a bit of courage going into a gang-zone unarmed.

its weird that US people seem to think of us over here as all posh (and bad teeth if you watch family guy) as most of us are from working class background and the UK is one of the biggest warring nations in history, i would far sooner have some english beast on my side that some skinny punk with a gun.

its odd, its not like we think all yanks are stupid and fat is it ? j/k
