We are talking about ET here, not RTCW
[/quote]
Read the whole post idiot, I was using it as a frame of reference as you well know.
Then try opening your eyes. I regularly asnwer posts asking for help, as I do on other forums ( www.enemy-territory.com ) and as I’ve been doing for a year and a half on www.rtcw.co.uk. I’m expressing an opinion, to which I’m as entitled as you. Personally I think my general contribution to the community entitles me to a let of a bit of steam now and then, what’s your excuse?
Plz dont use RTCW as a reference to ET, I played RTCW but ET is played by more players than RTCW ever was. Comparing ET to RTCW is a waste of time since many players have never played RTCW. If people could get past this simple fact and realize that ET is NOT RTCW maybe we could get somewhere, Using RTCW as a reference to ET is lazy and selfish IMO.
Maybe u love RTCW and are hoping that ET will replace it? but simple fact is it’s a different game and will never become the game u hope it will, I love ET including it’s numerous faults and would never compare it to a product I payed money for (RTCW).
Yeah, I agree the RTCW reference was a bad way of making a point, which I obviously failed spectacularly to do.
What I was trying to get across is that different people play the game for different reasons. Some, like me, derive their “fun” from co-operating with team-mates to achieve an objective. Others just like to run around shooting at people and blowing shit up. I come from the RTCW Clan community and fall squarely into, what some might call, the “serious” player category.
Others, like twiFight, apparently do not, as he remarked earlier…
Now it would obviously be remiss of me to berate twiFight, or anyone else, for getting fun out of the game whichever way suits them, but the kind of game he described in that post is not fun as far as I’m concerned. That’s not why I play the game. I could wish that guys like twiFight would go play Quake or some other DM style game, as it would seem more to their taste, but that would be wrong of me too.
By saying these differences existed in RTCW I didn’t mean to compare ET to RTCW as such, I was just trying to get across the point that different people play for different reasons, and that, furthermore, it seems to me the “non-Clanned / Shrub” type of RTCW player is more prevelant in ET than the “Clanned / serious” type of player. That’s not a criticism, or a dig at anyone, just an observation.
Now, some might respond to this by saying “go play for a Clan if you want serious games”. Unfortunately real life prevents me from doing so or else I would. So I guess I’m doomed to trawling the mass of servers out there looking for those few which have players wishing to co-operate as a team to achieve the objectives.
PS: I apologise to any and all for my tone in previous posts. I’ve just had a shitty week. Anyone who knows me knows that this isn’t the way I normally conduct myself.
I’m glad you see most of your mistakes yourself, saves me the trouble of pointing it out to you, which in general is often futile.
I offer my condoleances though. I’m really sorry that you are so narrow-minded. Life is all about winning right? What more could one want…
It’s a pity that you can’t grasp the concept, but I’ll try again with the dictionary:
fun ( P ) Pronunciation Key (fn)
n.
A source of enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure.
Enjoyment; amusement: have fun at the beach
Really, try it out for a few minutes, you’ll see that there’s so much more to a game than winning.
As to all the allegations about me not wanting to complete the objectives and running around xp whoring… well, I’m not getting into that, since it’s plain to see what you are trying to achieve with those remarks. But atleast I can quit the game after I’ve lost and still feel good…
Personally i get my enjoyment of this game from completing the objectives and trying to work as a team. I lmao when i play fuel dump on the Allies side and we have 8 covert-ops and 4 engineers and thats it.
How are we going to even get the tank over the bridge without a medic or atleast one covert trying to throw some smoke for cover?
Don’t get me wrong aslong as people are not health stripping or tk’ing then fair play to them whatever way they choose to play but imho people would get alot more enjoyment and depth from the game if they worked as a team more.
Afterall these “fun” players are the first to bitch and moan after a round when they have been owned for the 10th time in a row.
Oh and for the record twiFight i think your a dick.
Whenever I’m playing defense on Battery and either a) there is no field ops for ammo; or b) there is a field ops but he’s a clueless, dumbass whore who airstrikes constantly and doesn’t give a single ammo pack to his teammates, I’ll frequently wait for the counter to hit 2 or 1 and then /kill for a fresh ammo payload.
What’s actually quite amusing, is poeple who /kill probably don’t realise how the experience for battle sense works (basically it awards xp for staying alive and in battle for 45 sec periods). Using /kill will reduce the number of experience you get, simply because you are not remaining alive for long enough to be awarded it.
so using /kill it actually harming the number of experience points you can be earning.
(So is being TK/revived by a teammate after a gun battle - but that’s a whole new can’o worms)
i think ‘skilled’ players would rather gain less XP then face being killed by a lesser player. When some one /kills the second before you’re about to nail them its cheap and everyone knows it
Kendle is that ET Pro server in your sig the one you are talking about? Id like to try the game with no XP (XP whores drive me crazy too :banghead:)
Oh and I dont know if this has been said but say in oasis, if the allies plant dynamite at one of the guns and I am somewhere far away, or I am a different class other than eng, I /kill myself so that I can hopefully disarm it in time. This happened to me the other day, an allied covop let someone through the door (most of us axis were distracted), and they planted at the north gun. I /killed myself, set my spawn, and went and disarmed the dyna when they planted on the next gun. They eventually won the game (by stacking on the outside )
Unfortunately, XP has been enabled again, to bring it into line with ClanBase EuroCup settings. It also features ClanBase amended timelimits and cvars. As most leagues / ladders (TWL, CAL, etc.) should also be using these settings / cvars, it seemed a sensible thing to do if we wanted this server to be seen as a good public server for the “Clanned / serious” player.
As it’s Stopwatch XP isn’t such a problem, especially as it’s set back to zero after each round, but I did prefer it when there was no XP at all.
Would it be possible that if you did use the kill thingy( im so innocent i didnt know about it :eek3: )Your team would all lose xp and a little note wou;d appear like " kerunch kills himself team all lose 2 xp " but only using the kill thingy. As you may notice i havent a clue in these things and i like it that way as to much knowledge is a bad thing and ruins the game.
my view on xp is it is good i enjoy getting promotions and i also enjoy trying through chat to get teamwork going.I dont belong to a clan as I dont think anybody would want me and i couldnt be bothered. My wife and children think im a loser anyway for playing computer games .
IMO, you should just deal with it. Its a feature of the game, just like the panzer. I dont like it when I just battle my way through 4 guys, am down to 20HP, after fighting my ass off to stay alive, some noob across the map sends a panzer at me. I deal with it, the /kill command helps when its a small game and ur going against 2 guys. There have been lots of games where Im alone, I’ll kill them both and down to 30 life with no med packs, the smart thing to do is /kill urself. If you do it just to avoid someone from killing you, ur a noob.
