If you are talking about my post then:
I don’t want the AR to be the be all end all I just feel I should be able to take down a med/light at close range with an AR faster than me (as a heavy) being shot with an SMG.

First of all, Completly dissagree. Think of real life. That is all I have to say. Would a SMG be slightly less powerful than an AR? I think so. But i do have a problem with the pistols being far to weak.
In real life a light MG has better accuracy than a matchlock pistol too.

Heavies are supposed to be a support-type class (at least I think so) So you shouldn’t be in Close Quarters in the first place
Games are not always made with realism in mind. This is especially the case with Brink. Better to have fun and balanced gameplay than realism, I say.
But heavy weapons have such bad accuracy it makes long range combat almost impossible.
my experience is that the Heavy only gets into trouble when he s facing a buffed light dude in close range who s good at strafing
otherwise the Heavy is a damn walking fortress, especially when fully buffed and with teammates around him
it s basically like the Heavy in TF2 - if he s fighting alone he ll go down instantly, but with Doc behind him he s able to mow down the entire enemy team :stroggtapir:

Any body (eh…) can be buffed. You can’t say a buff is a counter against a certain bodytype.
You need a really low dosage of bullets to keep the Maximus accurate, a lower dose than most AR’s which means that with an equal bullet power the Maximus is a worse choice on long ranges.
For me:
Close combat? As it was said, use a AR or SMG, they’re better for that (the only advantage would be the clip size). Long range? Well the accuracy of heavy weapons is horrible even in burst and the dammage are laughable. I always preferred a handgun as secondary weapon for long shots (eagle <3).
So where comes the maximus or chinzor? Yea that’s fun to hold a zone with EZ nade, but it’s not viable.
I have a heavy level 20 (soldier) and a light almost 20. I was really looking into playing heavy at long term, but the light gameplay suit me better atm. A slight buff of the heavy would make me go back to my heavy.
inb4: “learn2play, buy some aim, etc etc” I have a long background of online and offline competition and I’d say my aim is more than ok, let’s be constructive.
ps: not native english, sorry for grammar.
Simply adding health to the Heavy won’t solve anything. Adding another 20 health (180 total) means 1 more sprayed bullet to kill them. If headshots and spread are the issue then fix those issues. Make headshot bonuses decrease with heavier body types or actually fix the stabilization on the weapons. It wouldn’t hurt to be able to equip a grip to the LMGs but at this point that may be impractical.
To be completely honest the weapons in Brink are very disappointing in their overall balance. I wouldn’t mind seeing them overhauled completely as most of the stats listed in-game are dead wrong (e.g. Euston has less damage than every AR except the 3K yet it is listed as the highest).
That would be a great idea

And yes, Heavies ain’t scary[/QUOTE]
Yeah I feel intimidated by the lights running rings around me
I think there arn’t enough places in maps where there’s range between you and your target for this to show.
but to the OP and as a general point, i reckon reducing accuracy of SMGs might be good
People with skill win a lot.
People using SMGs win a lot.
Therefore, everyone using an SMG has skill.
Therefore, everyone saying they’re too powerful is a nub and should learn2play.
My caeser pistol is BAD ASSSSSSS, no joke lol, with its soda can supressor it still 3-4 shots people
I agree, SMGs are too powerful. They can be easily fired from the hip without significant downsides, with the drumclip you can fire “forever” and you outdamage pretty much everything. Combined with the LIGHT class and their mobility (bulletdodging) it’s very very powerful.
I must admit i also use a light with a drumclip-smg atm and it feels just a bit too powerful, maybe my opponents weren’t that good, but i had more than 1 situation where i literally sawed through 3 opponents without troubles, even heavies with miniguns.
As mentioned in above comments, the mapdesign favors the smgs, because it’s closequarters combat most of the time.
To cut down the damage would be the easierst way imo, or increase spread slightly. The only real downside of the smgs is longrange obviously, but in closequarters and 1on1 situatuations you just melt away the enemy’s hitpoints, even if they are HEAVY.
