"The Group Thing" Server

From something I read somewhere (lol but true), got the idea that this server was owned by Splash Damage.
This is the server where I get the best ping. And considering all the problems I had playing in other servers, I try to get it up with players as often as possible.

However this is not easy because it has the standard config from ranked days. Meaning, it requires 3v3 players to start game.

I would like to ask you (or who ever runs the server) to change cfg and allow game to start with 1v1. And while you are doing it, force team balance to On, and remove the corresponding vote. If that’s not much to ask.

Not far off, the server is owned by The Group Thing (TGT), some of who’s members are also SD employees/ex-employees, or in more detail some eQ members were amongst the original SD founders, and eQ is also a founding member of TGT.

I am/was the server admin, but since the games we’re playing at the moment sadly don’t provide binaries for private hosting the server hasn’t been touched much recently, just chugging away running a few servers for the older games in-case people want to jump back on them from time to time.

As such I don’t have the remote login details to hand, but I’ll see if I can dig them out from somewhere, so I’ll have a look into your request, no promises though.

You wouldn´t believe the kind of retardeness I get in other servers.

Just as example: Today on Villa, after one hour of playing, suddenly everything looks different. I stopped hearing hit-sounds, and the sound when you are getting damaged also disappeared.
Besides this, the game won’t show shots, either from hand guns, as well as rockets or plasma cannons, avts, all kinds. Explosions, the same (exploding vehicles just disappear). Violators, airstrikes too, as well as beacons or the blue smoke.

Since it concerned sound as well as graphics, I got suspicious that it was not some hardware / cfg malfunction. Later, I joined another server and everything was back to normal. Then, went back on Villa, and it was just like before, no hit-sounds, shots or explosions.

So hopefully the changes should have taken effect now, I didn’t test though, so let me know if it’s not worked.

Thanks a lot. I already tested, and it’s working.
Had some good games there, with my old aim back.
I almost had forgotten how it was to kill people with 3/4 shots.

Rawa is there a chance you could setup more admin rights on the server? Can even be for same people that used to have them on Villa, Flora/paka?/villa guys.
With Villa gone we’re left with this and jesus server and people do not want to play especially with 1 person (and it’s ~20+ smurf accounts) that used to be banned on pb/villa server, vote kicking them is only temp. fix and doesn’t change much.

Also the ammoount of % for vote to pass is set to some insane number since none of the votes pass

+1 We need some kind of community server or community admins on server with rights to ban/ban/force votes/kick/restart map/shuffle etc
All type of freaks, smurfs, retards, morons, glich macros snipers, afk and 6v6 nohev and other types of faggots etc make games not comfortable, 90% ppl want to play as they did on Villa, 2-3 retards dont let them and ppl still tolerationg those idiots who doesnt not respect rules, doesnot repect people and community. Those guy(z) should be kicked/banned without any hesitation, cause they dont let rest ppl play normal with their special manner of behaving. They just force their idiotic style of trolling, they would not stay on Villa for a minute and in real life would be kicked to the faces as human trash.

As community we want to give to some of respectable players (plz, no women) mentioned full admin pass. Not 1 admin, but like 2-5. Its a must.

Does anyone know is Villa is actually completely gone though? I know their forum has disappeared (and their server), but you still see all the people with Villa tags ingame. I do remember René saying Villa would bring back it’s server.

A short update on what happened to Villa.

The server provider we used changed something (no clue what) and as a result the server didn’t get authenticated after a reboot so people couldn’t join anymore. We contacted the server provider and asked them to fix the problem but they took no action whatsoever so we decided to terminate it. There’s no point in having a server that no one can join.

We have tried to get a new server up and running but family circumstances put those plans on a hold for now and it’s unclear when there will be a new Villa server.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank René/singing_fish for all his efforts in keeping Villa going, he created a server with it’s own “soul” and it’s been one of the most popular servers for years in a row. That is an achievement and all I can say is thank you and I can only wish him strength with the things he has to deal with now.

My apologies, it is not my intention to hijack this thread, but he’s one of the unsung heroes that kept this game going and he deserves lots and lots of credit for that.
