Hi SD forums,

we host a lot of maps and i always wondered about the maps i miss having in our cycle. I probably tripple checked all the maps available (well, almost all) from the old and new famous mapsites like wolffiles.de.

I was wondering if some of you players or admins can list their most favorite and playable maps. This way i can find out which famous maps i am missing and our players might like to see …and vice versa ofcourse :wink:

Personally I would try stick to having at the most about 6 customs on a server at one time, it’s hard to learn any more than that really.

Also what team sizes do you have on your server? You need to pick the maps based on the amount of players you regularly get, not all maps are suitable for large team sizes nor suitable for small team sizes.

Also consider what mod you are using and which features you have turned on or off, this is why I don’t like the pub mods that started to take off back when I was mapping, they change the game way too much, it’s hard to make a map for both stock ET and ‘lets add lots of silly stuff’ ET.

Pick wisely and you’ll have players coming back time and time again, you could even try add another 3 map campaign that changes each month or so to try out new maps on top of your stable 6 map list.

These maps can be placed in the server ETmain but not in the rotation; Also selected the maps without a .campaign thingy inside…

Second paragraph is one of the things that made me leave my previous clan. We had not a lot of people but gigantic maps. They still have…

I map in Radiant and test under ETPro :rolleyes: Sometimes custom icons doesn’t appear well on Limbo in other mods because of that :confused:

Gigantic maps are crossing several timezones… all less is tiny :stuck_out_tongue:
(Talked to a MS Flight Sim fanboy. 9 hours of flight to land @ JFK, and you`re calling ET maps gigantic…tzzzzz)

I think Canyon Depth would fit more the word “gigantic” :stuck_out_tongue:

My fav is Resurrection, really love the atmosphere and the scary elements placed all around the map :slight_smile: That’s why I would like someday to make a haunted map myself for ET with occult stuff :smiley:

@mateos, thanks for the list. I see a few unknown maps. I will test them this evening or tomorrow. Very big thank you:)

@rest, the mod generates the campaigns depending on the playercount. Size doesnt matter in this case.

Since wolfet has less and less players, i was searching for smaller maps. Lets say up to max 10/12 players.

There are big maps that are good and have a good objective together with sweet graphics.
On the other side, from my experience, there are only a few GOOD and playable smaller maps. I can be mistaken and thats why i was hoping some of you know maps most people dont host because, well, they are not famous.

btw. isnt 2 tanks that map where 1tank is axis and the other is allies? afaik that map lags as hell.
Trooptrain is for crazy people…that map scares players away ;(

The 2 praetoria maps are lagging maps Mateos. I think we agree on that. Even the second one lags as hell as soon as the tank enters the city (?).

Oil Raid and Quotidian are 2 maps i have to try. The rest i allready know.

Didnt bulge_beta have bad spawnpoints? or maybe my team was bad but i think the spawnpoints are bad placed.
Breakout2 is also a lagmap.

I try to sort out the best playable maps available.

@Chris, you are right about the custom maps but i think thats a good idea for 5 years ago maybe. Meanwhile everyone know most of the maps i posted in the first post.

Yes about the first Praetoria (If you have a 56k connection with a 2004 computer), second one I don’t recall any FPS/lag issue :confused:

The 2 next shouldn’t have this kind of issue;

I don’t remember bad spawnpoints, maybe the first Axis one is quite close from the tree barrier, however seems good?

I played Breakout 2 on a bad connection/PC without problem o.o Strange :confused:

Nah, i have (not atm tho.) a good broadband connection. The lags in praetoria 1 and praetoria 2 are probably because it is a big open map?
A duocore 2.2ghz, 2gb and my HD5670 should be enough.

The lags in praetoria 1 are all the time from the very beginning. In praetoria 2 the lags mostly happen when the tank enters the city where the axis spawn.
Breakout 2 lags pretty heavy at the trainstation.

It is strange to me too that YOUu dont have any lags in these 3 maps since diego admitted the lags etc. (if i remember correctly…)

My previous laptop has Intel Core2Duo 2.2GHz with 3 GB of RAM (I say 3 cause I had a 7 32bits…), NVidia GeForce 310M, 40 FPS at least, with AAx4 through panel almost all the time (Just disabled when playing ETPro). He said so, but when was it released? :slight_smile:

Here, with a quite bad connection (Public WiFi + Far from the source), I lad on Radar, a bit on Gold Rush, but not on Adlernest or Supply :confused:

Low fps isn’t the same as lag. You probably getting lower fps on Radar and Goldrush, these maps contain way more detail and have a load more entities than Adlernest and Supply combined.

I’m not sure about this but I think idtech3 (or any engine for that matter) can only do so much regardless of how good your PC is, if a map pushes the limits of the engine you will get problems not matter what.

On my side I’m not kidding, it’s lag: +200 ping and yellow spikes on lag-o-meter. I know the difference between lag (Network) and low FPS (Performances), it’s just in this case the increased distances = more stuff (players) to display = more network required = more potential lag on crappy connection, I think?
