SDK for us PC types, let us make our own maps/mods
DLC for consoles, all sorts of new hats and outfits for a nominal fee, or possibly won at ZM sponsored events
The future of Brink: DLC's
L4D/2 DLC and SDK free to PC, chargeable for consoles… seems reasonable to me.
I mentioned maps in their ‘new phase’ on IRC, like the uber beginning when everything is shiny… digibob was mean to me
Container city wouldn’t exist in its current form at time I guess so could kinda work, don’t know about the rest though.
Point is content could be worked into the story if you REALLY had to but frankly I think it’s unnecessary and silly to limit yourself in such a way.
That said I’ve always liked the idea to produce different time of day, different objective reworkings of existing maps. That’s pretty cheap content if you can pull it off.
new content wouldn’t be too hard…container ship in harbour, inside warehouse, lower level in Ark etc.
A Sunday Afternoon on The Ark … Resistance Headquarters…
…
Resistance Operative: - This is so booooring… nowhere to run…
Resistance Medic: - Let’s move… to fight “tweens’ obesity” in the Security sector!!!
R Operative: - Same old s***, we win… they win … Who gives a flying fluck? I dont!
R Soldier: - Look at the horizont…
R Soldier: …one big FK ship…
R Medic: …i think is the World Largest Cruise ship… Genesis-class, Freedom of the Seas-class or is it Voyager of the seas - class? …
R Engineer: - Damn… if i only had the SDk to make it a map or a mod…
R Engineer (looking to the skyes in an obscene pose): - I will have my vengeance Bethesda, in This Game or the next…
R Soldier: - Omg … to the west… :eek::eek: … two Aircraft carriers, Enterprise Class …
R Medic: - Who is it?
R Soldier: … is the USS “DLC Pack” and USS “More DLC”
R Operative: - We are doomed…
The same day … Security Headquarters…
Security Soldier: … USS “DLC Pack” and USS “More DLC” you say?
Security Soldier: MOAAAAAR!!
…
Though i discourage map packs, i doubt the ark will be fully and thouroughly explored. They could definately make maps, but its just whether they should.
New weapons as DLC would suck majorly. I would imagine that SD have spent a lot of time balancing weapons.
Adding new weapons in form of a DLC would mess that balance up. No, I think thins like clothing, and general UI stuff might make the DLC.
I think he meant the weapons added as FREE DLC so that everyone gets them… Just to add some new variety to the game (like Killing Floor did). That way the balance is safe.
Hey Singh good to see you in these parts
What iv noticed a few developers doing is creating all the content before release and then keeping some of the content back and releasing it as DLC a few months down the line. So in theory if SD did do this with weapons and other stuff, the balance of the game shouldn’t be messed up.
I hope this isn’t the case tho, as I feel robbed that they don’t include it in the full game.
Aye been keeping an eye on Brink for ages, thought it was time I re-invade the forums.
To be honest, I’m not that fussed about DLCs. The game looks like it is going to be immense.
Because “exclusive pre order content” isn’t lame as hell too?
It’s like DLC, but you don’t have to download them, it’s already on your disk but you can’t use it, even if you got the game for full price!
It’s not on a disc. It’s a code and you download it via internet connection usually
Edit: I personally think a combo of some weapons and “missions” (not just map packs) would be awesome and extend replay value. But would probably take forever to design keeping the SMART system in mind and how you have to map out all of those maps for that particular system. So I don’t think you’d be seeing same day DLC. But probably a mix of some need additional weaponry to add a new layer of strategy and maybe a couple maps.
It’d be nice to see maybe a level extension later on. Like raise the level cap by five or something and add some new abilities. That would add life to the game. But I don’t think users should have to pay for this. I think you should have to earn it in game somehow.
Of course I can’t speak for Brink but generally the code you get given on a card, via email or get shown as part of a Live purchase just unlocks content you already have on disc. An example is the Pre-order baseball bat in L4D2 which everyone can see and use, IF, someone playing pre-ordered. So everyone has the content but not everyone can use it.

Wouldn’t maps imply new missions?
But would probably take forever to design keeping the SMART system in mind <snip> So I don’t think you’d be seeing same day DLC.
Same day DLC is when the content is already done at the time of retail but instead of including it in the game they make it available as DLC on the release day.

Sigh
Note that i also said, rather then just having the campaign missions in competitive multiplayer (correct me if thats not what is happening in the game) I think some more simpler modes derived from singleplayer maps such as Team Deathmatch could keep this game alive. What do you think?
nope, alrady plenty of DM games, I like SD objective games. Simple modes are for simple people, Splash Damage makes sophisticated games for thinking players. You have your choice, plenty of shooter games for individuals, I like team games
I dont imply that i would rather these games, but they could be less repetitive then a campaign mission. By the way, is it campaign missions, or more sophisticated progresive general modes. Ugh, finding it hard to say what i mean…
I don’t think you fully understand what Brink’s gameplay is going to be like if you think TDM is going to be less repetitive than campaign/objective mode.
You really no idea about what you are talking about, right?
About the lack of DM/TDM, nail is still laughable. Almost all W:ET servers kicks you if just think about doing the objectives
Try out Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, it’s from SD and it’s free, it contains the same game modes, just without the customisation, story driven campaign and is set during WW2.
