The future of Brink: DLC's

(Damblo) #1

I think brink looks like its going to be a killer game, and i know tons of people have said it looks similar to borderlands. While this is right and wrong in so many ways, what borderlands excelled at was its DLC’s, so Brink DLC’s.

What do you people want? The things i have in mind are free weapon packs, so everyone can have them and no one gets anything overpowered for paying 5 bucks. Also more maps/missions, obviously with the game not being released yet, i cant really define what we will be wanting, but if we play missions rather than maps online, this game could be terribly short lived. Aside from releasing more missions, why not create more modes!? Splashdamage already decomfirmed TDM’s etc, but i think they could be an interesting addition to the game, so when people think there is nothing else to do, they can jump into a simple game of TDM on a bordered map and blow each other up etc. Oh and i just remembered, aswell as free weapon packs, also i want me some free clothing packs ;D

You see, in games like Call of Duty, the DLC’s they release are map packs, which do not bring much freshness to the game. Personally, ive been nagging and whining on the CoD Forums for Weapon packs and such rather than maps, but i thought id rather share my ideas with a game that hasnt been milked out and shat on, and arse raped etc.

So if anyone from splash damage reads this, please take in my ideas, and stay away from map packs, at first at least. IMO, this game could be a big hit, with the right nurturing. Please post your ideas for any DLC’s also :stuck_out_tongue:

Tapir anyone? or two ^.-

I guess Bethesda is in charge whether it’ll cost money or not, furthermore, good idea

(Damblo) #3

What does Bethesda do anyway? Are they in charge of DLC’s or did they make the engine etc. i’ll google it any way :stuck_out_tongue: -.-

(Apples) #4

Bethesda are the publisher, and dlc’s will only come free if the game sold out well IMO, as they’ll keep the hype up with DLC’s while they are creating brink 2 (maybe, if the 1st is a succes)

I’"m not fan of dlc’s, I’d rather an open environment and a strong custom community for new map / weapons / skin community made.

Peace

A modding scene would be a nicer environment than a game kept alive with segregation and segmentation due to DLC.

I want the SDK as DLC.

Adding new weapons would be silly in my opinion unless they are just re-skinned versions of existing ones that the Barbie crowd can enjoy without screwing up game balance.

Adding too many new maps would be a no no for me also, I think one SD developed map pack consisting of a few maps released many months away would be more than adequate, oh and be free like the good old days.

I’m not too sure about user made maps in an official packs, while they would certainly get played more it may create a ‘prejudice’ against maps not added that are still been worked on resulting in fewer people willing to try out said maps and having them not getting the testing required to make them up to standard to be added into future packs.

Also I’d imagine once a map is added then that’s it, no more updates for that map through the official channels, obviously the mapper can release updates themselves but this would generate confusion about which version is which and could potentially create conflict problems for those who download additional versions.

I’ve not played any games that feature such user made packs so if anyone has experience with them I’d be all ears on how it worked out in them titles and whether or not my concerns are valid or not.

(Damblo) #7

Yea, but i dont really support that idea for consoles. Its a bit to complex for some of the 9 year olds here on PS3…

(Apples) #8

Yeah then dlc for console only and let the pc people do their own stuffs :stuck_out_tongue:

Win-win situation!

(AnthonyDa) #9

Stuck in the 90’s? :stroggtapir: Bethesda sold ****load of DLC for Oblivion, like an armor for your horse for 5euros :stroggtapir:

So you’re a hater of TF² too? Unless you didn’t try it since 2+years.
It works great for TF², well at least try it just to listen to the dev commentary, you’ll see how bad BRINK design and its shinny glow around character sux and being done completely wrong :penguin:

(.Chris.) #10

I tried it one afternoon last year or so, I didn’t like it no.

(Lizzrd) #11

Would be nice to have an additional campaign for each side added after half a year or summat, but that’s just me.

(Singh400) #12

New weapons as DLC would suck majorly. I would imagine that SD have spent a lot of time balancing weapons.

Adding new weapons in form of a DLC would mess that balance up. No, I think thins like clothing, and general UI stuff might make the DLC.

#13

Hey Singh good to see you in these parts  What iv noticed a few developers doing is creating all the content before release and then keeping some of the content back and releasing it as DLC a few months down the line. So in theory if SD did do this with weapons and other stuff, the balance of the game shouldn’t be messed up.

I hope this isn’t the case tho, as I feel robbed that they don’t include it in the full game.

(DarkangelUK) #14

My biggest pet peeve is day 1 DLC, just pure greed.

(AnthonyDa) #15

Because “exclusive pre order content” isn’t lame as hell too?
It’s like DLC, but you don’t have to download them, it’s already on your disk but you can’t use it, even if you got the game for full price!

(SockDog) #16

I’d be interested in new modes being added as expansions to the main game and charged for as DLC. I would however like to see some of that money offset to pay for FREE maps for the original game.

Otherwise.

Clothes, Weapon Skins, HUD skins etc as DLC so be it (although you know, PC version should support this as user created content too, cock blocking is NOT COOL)

Maps. Huge NO but given the idiots making $15 map packs successful and Bethesda borrowing tons of money to aquire companies left and right I’m thinking we’ll be sadly seeing these aplenty.

(Crytiqal) #17

Isn’t the Ark supposed to be a floating city? :stuck_out_tongue:

I wonder how many more maps you can create before you realize it doesn’t fit on the island
(I am talking about official released maps in DLC which imo should fit with the storyline and environment, right?)

(SockDog) #18

Maps could be from a different timeline offering the same area but different layouts and objectives.
We’ve yet to see how big the Ark is underwater.
Would we really be that worried about the narrative <cough> that we’d pass up on new maps if we couldn’t piece them all together on the Ark?

(DarkangelUK) #19

I mentioned maps in their ‘new phase’ on IRC, like the uber beginning when everything is shiny… digibob was mean to me :frowning:

Container city wouldn’t exist in its current form at time I guess so could kinda work, don’t know about the rest though.

(Ramziez) #20

I personally hate map pack DLC… take a look at TF2. There are so many maps in the game but people play like what 4 or 5 of those 30-40 maps they got. They even said in their director’s commentary that they didn’t want to make a huge number of maps since many of them went unplayable and people tend to stick to a few maps.

On the topic of Weapon DLC I say if they are just new versions of existing weapons without any differences I would be willing to accept that. Again take TF2’s weapon updates, they release so many different weapons with every update it seems. When you play TF2 it’s almost impossible to tell the difference between the weapons and what special quirky power that weapon has. So again if DLCs were weapons where just new models/skins for existing models I would be much better than quirky new weapons.
