riptide certainly isn’t the 1st to make a request such as his, so why is he being treated like he is, and that he’s alone? There have been a ton of queries and reservations here, on various blogs and Brink news releases about the speed of the game, so i’d say it’s a perfectly reasonable request compared to most on here.
The full potential of Brink still a mystery?
I wasn’t talking about figuring out SMART as a Heavy, just in general - it was 2 separate thought in one sentence.
Because I wasn’t here or wasn’t paying attention to other people who wanted devs to give them a video showing a ton of trickjumps all around the maps. It’s a pretty specific set of problems I have with this request.
Well, I mean, I understand people who want to see PC footage. I understand people who want to see gameplay.
PC people, they think their game will suck. Some of them (Kinjal) are inconsolable (lol puns) and those ones make me mad, but the basic idea is totally understandable.
People who want to see generic gameplay are just excited and like seeing footage. Not exactly complicated there.
However, in this case, he wants the devs to be creative for him. He’s not asking for “hey can you post a quick game on that Dry-Docks map?” He’s asking “hey, can you give me a list of possibilities?” which means that, essentially, he’s taking a system like SMART where you can do quite a bit, the sky is the limit, and asking for the devs to artificially limit his ability to innovate.
Then there’s the fact that there will obviously be a video about SMART in the next few days.
I mean, I can’t and don’t expect everyone to pay attention to this stuff, but that doesn’t mean I can’t, and it shouldn’t affect who I do and do not agree with. You know?
Considering SMART has been touted as a big innovation and has been flung around on just about every press release to date, as i said, I would’ve expected more than 1 video relating to it in 2+ years. He asked to see the capabilities of this new (thrown in your face by the PR department) innovation. I’ve watched video interviews of Locki and Bongoboy sounding pretty darned excited about it, so why is it not a reasonable request to see it in action? They have a video dedicated to objectives and classes… quite a few players of SD’s old games know what classes are, we know what objectives are, so that really only caters to those new to the SD style. SMART is new to everyone, so seems perfectly reasonable to want to see something new in action rather than something quite a few of us know about… without showing everything or limiting anything.
We’ve seen 2 videos relating to SMART so far. A 3rd will be coming along shortly which will provide a tutorial on how to use it. We’ve seen it in action in dozens of videos. There’s no reason you should get to see every little trick before the game’s even out yet. We’ve seen some pretty neat stuff, especially in the first video on the dry-docks.
I need you to finish that sentence Toka, because I honestly don’t know where you’re going with that.
Yes you’re correct, there have been 2 videos, my mistake. As to the “we’ve seen it in action in dozens of videos”, that’s quite a weak point in your overall argument. That’s like not showing the objectives video because we’ve seen objectives being done in dozens of videos. Sure smart has been there, but not as a point of focus. But yes, it stands to reason that one of the Get SMART videos will be focused on SMART itself… which should cater to riptides request quite well, making it a reasonable one?
No, it’s not a weak point.
If they don’t show a SMART video in this Get SMART series, I’ll be right here with you agreeing that they dropped the ball. That has always been part of my point: don’t come out and make some request for something that over-reaches a bit, when you’re about to get a video that does an appropriate amount of what you want very soon.
However, we have seen SMART in the Container City footage. We’ve seen 2 dedicated videos. In all the trailers, at least one gameplay scene will have some useful little trick done with SMART. I don’t think that we need another video outside of the one I am absolutely, 100% expecting out of the tutorial vids.
As soon as they show the smart system video all the light fans will complain that there was a two second clip in there showing what the heavy is capable of and at least part of the time showing what the difference between medium and light boundaries are. Instead of it being a light parade.
I would have agreed fully… had SMART not been one of the main focus areas of the PR spin for the past 2 years. And still, you may have seen it in action in the footage, but it was still never a point of focus, anymore than classes were, or doing objectives were. I also don’t think the Get SMART series was fully know about when the request was made.
That’s possible, but I knew it was coming a month ago. Not because of some crazy special insider knowledge, but because I read the forum and I saw badman (?) hint that they would be releasing the in-game tutorials. Then, yesterday, they referred to it as the “first video in the Get SMART series,” which was before the post was made by a full 6 hours. It’s not impossible for the logical leap to have been made. Not even difficult, as the Get SMART topic hasn’t left the front page yet since being posted.
With the turn over of posts on here lately, and the amount of duplicate posts/threads… it can be difficult for some people to keep up with every going on on here… especially a new user like riptide who isn’t just keeping up, but starting anew in all of those threads.
We were all new once. I’m still new around here, I think. The month ago bit? I don’t expect people to know it. I’m just a bit asinine when it comes to being complete. The point was, it wasn’t unknowable, or even hard to figure out, that there would be a video featuring SMART in the same way that every other portion of the game has been or will be featured. 6 hours before his post, a totally new thread (because yes, archive panic CAN happen, and is a big problem for some of the more important posts that can go on for 10 or 20 pages) popped up showing off a series that was starting yesterday that seemed to be the tutorial we’ve been hearing about every time the press opens their mouth.
You didn’t know it was a much requested video, he didn’t know it will (more than likely, nothing solid) be part of the Get SMART series… there’s lots of things people don’t know… and being berated over a simple, justified request shouldn’t come hand in hand with lack of knowledge.
You must misunderstand my request… I want to see how high you can jump/double jump as a light and how fast you can run… a simple wall hop to show the falling momentum would be great too. I just want to get a feel for what to expect… The basic limits and speeds are what I am asking to see… I’m not telling them to wall hop rail mantle wall hop rail mantle wall hop slide wall hop rail vault throughout the entirety of a map like they were doing timed flag runs.
