The breaking point.

So let’s talk about myself. I have a high ego, so this is easy.

I am about to rage quit this game. Just putting that out their for the devs. As a dude who thinks the same as all your other customers, I am getting pissed off.

Why?

Well… It’s called the Meat Grinder effect. DB is jam packed with it. you are either the blades, grinding the meat as it tries to do an OBJ, or is the meat that is well…

…yeah…

And it has got to the point where I play one match, and I am like “I’m done, I’m going to go play something more relaxing.” Most players play games for the other reason. After a long day at work, it’s nice to relax with a beer in one hand, and a game in the other.
With DB, it’s a crushed can, with beer running down my knuckles in one hand, and my keyboard about to be throw in the other.

How do we fix this? I don’t know, but I just though the devs would care to know.

If you mind now… I just rage quit a game, so I am going to go punch a wall while I wait for my temp ban to expire.

I kinda have the opposite problem but also kinda similar. I am always the grinder in this analogy. Pubs games are so stupid easy that I wonder why I bother any more. It’s the same with comp. Hardly ever do we actually come across decent players. Mostly just a bunch of lvl 5s doing it for missions or because they are clueless.

(Jostabeere) #3

If you can’t tolerate other peoples playstyles because you aren’t social, don’t play games which require social interactions.

(Amerika) #4

I’m not certain what you want the devs to know other than you take DB potentially a bit too seriously. I’ve got an ego that needs to be measured in astronomical units at times but I definitely don’t let it upset me like it appears to upset you.

You know, I had the same attitude too early in the game before I got to level4. But I changed because I understood the game much better… how to play better. Like what the EFF are uhb-jek-tivs is all about, and why I must play things accordingly… or wth is merc team synergy and how game dynamics vary because of it in public matches. I used to hate some mercs like Vassili, Phantom and Redeye, but now I’m learning how they can be effective in the conflict. Yeah man!!! you don’t get this 5H!+ for free or you don’t get to see them in YouTube Videos or printed in .PDFs that you can read about. It comes with patience, willingness to learn, co-operate and adapt… got any?

This game is not about winning or losing the match. It rewards you both ways. So Splash Damage makes you EFFING WIN, regardless of match outcome. (Did I kick it hard enough?). I play this game for clutch moments of not knowing whether you’ll win or lose. My game is all about that edge of your seat, intense heart pounding clutch moment. Being in the programming side of things, I know there are serious bugs here and there but there is a bigger picture. OH boy! A MUCH BIGGER PICTURE… I see a DAMN BIG PICTURE.

This game is NOT about making the other team rage quit. This game is intense, and it is NOT meant to be relaxing, and Just to add to the intensity, if I lose a match with the a good team, I do push ups, and man I’m doing heaps! You want relaxing, Windows has Solitaire or Mines. Even Firefox has game plug-ns I enjoy for a no brainer type of playing.

Also, you’re the first player who claims that got banned for rage quitting. Or were you got T banned for something else? In all honesty, you’re one of the reason why I’m doing lots of sets on my pecs. You’re probably the type that makes a good team go bad. I’m sure SD can improve “match balance” by a different algorithm, but a lot of it is dynamically player based.

MMmmmm… Salty. I like it.

(Ardez1) #7

@K1X455 He didn’t get banned for ragequitting, he got a Competitive Matchmaking penalty for quitting a match in progress.

(K1X455) #8

They should apply the ban harder on public games… S E R I O U S L Y

And btw, rage quitting has a new name. It’s now called NGS violation.

(Adam) #9

I said I don’t like being in a meat grinder, I never said anything about play styles.

Nor am I, but it is good to have the devs know. Also, it’s not that I take the game serious, or that I have an ego quota to fill, it’s just that it’s pain full dying, waiting 20secs, and then dying again.

The whole point of pubs are to be casual, so people can drop in and out whenever they want.

(K1X455) #11

I can only humbly suggest organized competitive play. Get three other guys you know well who can work with you to achieve a goal, team up with with another 4 or 3 man team and play. Play well… remember, SD rewards you for playing well, regardless of win or lose.

EDIT:
@Clown it’s bad practice for the casuals to bring their “conveniently timed NGS violation” on competitive mode. What is happening is that rage quitters leave the game because things aren’t going so well. Half the team is then gone and 2 minutes go by with the remaining team completely overwhelmed. There’s a psychological impact on the remaining team. The tide rarely turns unless more than half of the other team suddenly experiences some sort of technical problem and half of them go, and this seriously evident in STOPWATCH mode. The game doesn’t know well enough what the situation and just fills in the void with an unsuspecting players. In some way it’s good because it maintains cohesion among players but it always favors the winning team. As for those left behind, the feeling of being overwhelmed cannot be compensated. I just take a break if things don’t “go my way” when playing this game. Be it a few hours to days or even a week off at a time. Moderation is key in many things in life, especially when it comes to video games as a hobby. But luckily for me I have freedom to just play another game or do ANYTHING instead of letting a game or complete strangers ruin my day.

(LANshark) #13

luisten to this guy. I just took a two week break from DB, came back and played a min level 10 stopwatch match. Best (as in fun, i SUCKED) game i had in months.

(srswizard) #14

Ideally we’d have a solo queue for ranked, and some kind of rewards for ranking up, or such, and leaderboards.
I believe these things would help maintain the playercount.

Edit. What I’m getting at, is that there’s no “optimal” way of playing the game for solo players currently, and that needs to change asap.

(CCP115) #15

I’ll be lucky to even find a competitive match, let alone a balanced match.

And you should get a nice singleplayer game. For calming down. Doesn’t have to be some psychedelic indie stuff, could just be something like Borderlands. I quite like that, and it’s still challenging but in no way infuriating.

(Atherel) #16

Sometimes you just have to stop giving a fuck. It’s only a game. Relax and choose a merk like Fragger or Nader and blow something up. Feels good

Some people are more prone to gamer rage than others. I don’t personally have this problem, but my gaming partner feels the exact same you do, @Adam. It’s definitely a struggle to keep with the game at times.

Gamer rage isn’t really just a Dirty Bomb thing, but a pervasive thing across a lot of games. It’s not just as easy as telling someone “don’t take it so seriously”.

You would benefit from a few things… One is simply having a friend you can play with and have fun with, and vent to when the game gets to you, as well as other means of managing your frustration. A lot of times it helps to just play something in small doses, and if it’s not going well, don’t stubbornly stick with it. Jump ship, or spectate a few rounds till you feel like diving in again. Or hop off and play something you find relaxing and find a balance between the two.

The pace of DB can be more stressful and exhausting than fun sometimes. I’d say just find friends you can play with and balance your DB time with other, more relaxing games, and know when to say you’ve had enough so you can stop your frustration before it turns into anger.

PS: It also helps to uh… troll a bit, in moderation. Sometimes if a match goes bad, my partner & I will do a pub melee match and challenge each other to see who can get the most melee kills… usually with ample teabagging. Helps to have a laugh if you’re feeling annoyed!

(enigmaplatypus) #18

you could join a fun and friendly team

I don’t play competitive matches yet as i don’t feel i am ready to go to that level but the meat grinder effect in public matches can be worse!
There is an option to sort teams by skill but more often than not its not used and you end up with 2/3 players of level 10-30 on one side and lots of level 5/6’s on the other. Now this results in one of two things, Players quitting the match so the lower leveled team is even weaker and less people for the stacking team to play against or the stacked team acting like children and spawn camping the lower team.
From what it sounds in the competitive matches is that the match making is causing the issue as its not correctly sorting the teams as skilled based as well as it should.

Of course it could also be down to the maps as that are being played in the sense of that one team has a distinctive advantage over another team in certain areas of a map or on the map as a whole. In this case the map itself needs to be looked at and maybe redesigned/adjusted.

It could also be down to certain mercs/loadouts or even combination of mercs being used together causing issues to be overpowered and comments on those would help to work towards a solution.

My point is throwing your toys out of the pram and ragequitting to get yourself a temp ban is not hurting anyone except yourself. Posting with no information on what you believe is causing the problems (Like i speculated the problems above), Is again helping nobody in working towards resolving the issues that arise.

A simple quote springs to mind here “Be part of the solution because if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem”

I can appreciate your frustration and even empathize with it as often i have muttered under my breath a profanity or two at that god darn sniper that keeps getting me because i cant see him or my team wont acknowledge he is there, Or that Rhino with two healer back ups!

One thing that i do believe needs looking at in the competitive matches is the missions that low level people get to go and play them. I fortunately can aim but if i am forced to go play in a competitive match for a mission i will most likely take Aura or Sawbones. More oftne or not i face better players in those matches so at least i can be useful to my team instead of just being meatgrindered. Maybe the matchmaking for this needs to be looked at as well.

Sorry for the wall of text guys and i agree with the others play another game and come back to dirty bomb when you have regained your composure a bit as a wound up gamer gets more wound up and gets worse because of the frustration.

Good luck and i hope you find your balance or i look forward to reading a post from you guys as to what you think causes these issues.
