The breaking point.

Pubs will be pubs will be pubs. They’ll always be filled with new players, bad players, and stacks. If you don’t want that, and the potential risk of being the only competent player on your team, consider playing with friends if possible, or pugs with some of the other communities - they’re far more relaxing imo.

Personally I think game might need some kind of middle ground for pubs/comp where the lower tiers could go to play their matches and learn. Pubs really aren’t that good place to learn really since they are chaotic and trollish in nature.
The problem is that the meat grinding effect of pubs follow through even to comp matchmaking which in my opinion sucks quite badly especially since they are only 5v5 matches. Then there’s the problem of available mercs since it’s only 5v5 match. It kind of sucks to being medic while whole team doesn’t have Fragger and other team has two (since there are no limits). Then I must go Nader since we need some boom inside and Fletcher’s on the team are concentrated being fancy with sticky bombs while getting their bottoms kicked in actual firefight or being effective doing their objective.

On pubs I have moments I’m like what on earth is happening when almost whole team of 7-8 dies in few moments and I’m like did they all die to the same airstrike or what? I sometimes K myself not only that I don’t go on full but I also get to know where the team is running/doing because I’m curious.

Some people don’t realize how much friends playing in same team help against the other teams since you are in the same team speak and have learned how each other plays/skillsets so you kind of know what is going on. It’s the lack of communication and overall chaos of it all that can make it exciting but also frustrating. Frustation tends to pile up into a mountain until it erupts as volcano.

I play this mostly for intense hectic moments but I can see that the game could have alternative ways of ensuring that also if you want to take it bit easier beer on your hand, it could work.
It would be great to have more balanced matches because it’s either one way or another currently quite often. After good match whether it was win/lose I feel satisfied and I know I got my money’s worth. If I have those moments like you, I just play less and return later.

My secret recipe for able to take it in games is because I have background on Texas hold’em. Complete idiot catching some almost impossible odds with last card (river) and you losing bunch of actual money to him (not only once, twice but many times) will heal you in time from many wounds. Also it helps to have life outside of games. And if you have had actual hard times in your life, you probably are able to push through anything, let alone a game. Of course it should be entertaining and all…so don’t waste your time if it isn’t but it is just a game after all.

“Sort teams by skill?” So no in pubs stacking shouldn’t exist. I agree with new players and bad players but not level 30+20+16 on one team against levels 5/6’s thats just bad mechanics if allowed to stay that way. Maybe dirty bomb should prevent team switching in the case of stacking with a message “This would unfairly balance the teams, You cannot switch at this time” along with the match maker stopping this sort of stacking. Other games prevent stacking and so should dirtybomb imo.

UPDATE :- Asked the question to [SD] Shoe today during their stream of "splashdamageltd Is there any plans to change the matchmaker to prevent deliberate stacking of higher level players against lower level players. IE a switch teams inhibitor if the teams would be unbalanced. "

I got the reply of “Yes there is something in the works to make it a bit more balanced and fair”, A timescale was not given but it looks like its being worked on for a future update.

Hope this helps guys.

The op is kind of the problem. pub competitive games are kinda bad right now because of afk, quiters and such. I dont think I’ve played 1 good match. Eaither I’m on the team completly dominating the other team because they are down to 3 players or I am on that team.

there needs to be a surrender button or something to stop people from being subjected to that.
I don’t play competitive matches yet as i don’t feel i am ready to go to that level but the meat grinder effect in public matches can be worse!
There is an option to sort teams by skill but more often than not its not used and you end up with 2/3 players of level 10-30 on one side and lots of level 5/6’s on the other. Now this results in one of two things, Players quitting the match so the lower leveled team is even weaker and less people for the stacking team to play against or the stacked team acting like children and spawn camping the lower team.
Good luck and i hope you find your balance or i look forward to reading a post from you guys as to what you think causes these issues.

I mention this time and time again, but it keeps getting disagreed and disliked. It’s THE PROBLEM to this whole issue.
Server browsers can’t balance for low pop servers. Period. Often joining a 6v6 server as a high skilled player makes YOU the stacked grinder team, unless another high skilled player joins the opposite side. That’s 100% random when you got people clicking random servers to join in the server browser. (Also, most of the time high skilled players have high skilled friends. All my friends that play are over level 20. I find that

I highly doubt that overwatch will have a server browser since it’s game is locked to 6v6. Yet I bet you that game will turn out much better with proper matchmaking from the ground up, especially for unranked games.

That being said, current matchmaking for competitive is pretty bad though. I wouldn’t trust a system like that for unranked games until they get ranked matchmaking correct.

If you find DB rage inducing just because it’s hard for you it’s not the dev’s problem, it’s yours. Take a deep breath and git gud m8.

(Dirmagnos) #30

Erm, no. Be4 i came over to DB for good i used to play GRP(Ghost Recon Phantoms) for 3 years. And that game has forced MM, no server selection, no nothing(few months ago they introduced custom game room option, that players had to pay 4 to create, but thats another story). but one option to join MM queue.
And balancing were bad, absolutely and utterly horrible. Low level players pitted aganst top tier p2w “pros” were a norm for that game. As a whole this game is pretty much an etalon of how NOT to make f2p game; how greed and stupidity can run into ground something that had huge potential and had an excellent start(until they replaced competent team leader with a complete moron by the name of Corey).
Official main reason for poor MM were “there isnt enough players in queue”. Eg just wait till game gets more players and everything will be fine. Problem is that in 3 years practically nothing has been done to improve situation. And MM remained horrible to the day i finally quit, since only “improvements” game has been getting were of p2w kind(more bundles, premium weapons, premium packages, premium anything and everything, while game performance were getting worse from patch to patch and severe bugs been ignored for months, and often simply called “features”), with complete ignore of anything else.
So problem is not mandatory MM or custom servers or competitive vs casual. It all comes down to how much work and thought devs put into game(and i mean actual game, eg gameplay, not realese of some half-baked broken crap with load of p2w “features” attached), that in turn defines amount of players, who in turn fill up MM quotes for every mode.
And DB is doing great on that part.
Forcing players into some mandatory MM queues, instead of giving them freedom of choice, will only make things worse. They will start to resent devs for forcing them into games that they lose, they will start to resent other players, because they are forced to play with them and they will start to resent game in general, because they have no choice on the matter what they play.

Do you usually play alone or with a group of friends? I believe that playing alone makes one rage more easily than playing with a group of friends although it does depend on the personality of someone. I notice that when I’m playing with friends, I become more laidback and accepting than when I play alone.

When I do feel like ragequitting, I stop and do something else whether that’s a game or not.
Most players play games for the other reason. After a long day at work, it’s nice to relax with a beer in one hand, and a game in the other.
I think it’s worth pointing out that there are a lot of games that don’t exactly fit this description either. Most competitive games can become very stressful.

I play a lot of Smite but I usually don’t find that particularly stress relieving either when I’m playing modes like Conquest and trying to win. Things can get frustrating and heated but I play Smite knowing and anticipating that. So I’ll play a match or two with a friend, trying silly builds out in Joust, or setting up cheesy combos to let off some steam.

The point I’ve failed to deliver particularly well is: Find a friend to play with, don’t be afraid to try strategies with them that are silly and shouldn’t work. Also don’t be afraid to take a break from Dirty Bomb for a while if you feel the need. I’ve taken month long breaks from Smite before and if I didn’t have a good friend to play with I probably would have stopped playing it a long time ago.
