"The Anger", operatives useless, ability stats chart?

(pikasecks) #1

I was disappointed to find that when I finally got “the anger” costume the face mask did not have a solid black color option as found on some Brink promotional screens:
see image:

Also I feel like the operative class is totally useless in this game / an afterthought.

Wolfenstein ET covert ops class was amazing, why couldnt it have been like that?
I loved wolfenstein ET! You could also disguise much faster, and satchel charges were great booby traps

And 8v8 maps arent really great for operatives either; there’s not enough chaos to play off of to confuse the enemy. if you have more than 1 disguised operative it gets pretty obvious pretty fast.

just some thoughts.
also anyone know of any damage charts? that outline abilities? like how much “buff” exactly is a weapon buff? 15% 20% etc? likewise for kevlar, cortex bomb damage, satchel damage etc. would be nice.

Not sure why you can’t have black for the anger.

Why does everyone seem to think this is some other game?

In TF2 the spy can back stab, disguise without a corpse and was pretty cool, should they make him like that in this?

Operatives aren’t useless, hack turrets, emp grenades, spotting mines, tagging enemies, Caltrop nades from blocking routes and others. They have their uses and are far from useless.

(Rubbaduren) #3

As for damagecharts, I found this: http://denkirson.xanga.com/738334226/brink/

(Steinernein) #4

Mine spotters , player markers, intel (either from caltrops, or comhack) , and EMP users - EMP disables turrets/mines, and delays things like the robot/HE charges etc.

Not exactly an after thought.

Personally, I think the disguise mechanic being based around the need for an enemy corpse was a poor choice and really set the Op class up for being less desirable than the others without even taking abilities into account.

The class works well for sniping between the mine spotting and marking targets if you’re so inclined, but I find myself only using the Op class if the team REALLY needs one to progress through a particular objective point b/c the other ones are a lot more effective and fun to play. At this point, i’m pretty surprised when i see an Operative on my team for segments of a given level where you don’t need them for an objective…definitely seems like it’s easily the least favorite class by quite a big margin.

LMAO. gooood question.

(peteXnasty) #7

Operatives rule. By rank 3 you will be wrecking havoc on the enemy team while jumping between bodies.

People dismiss the operative because he starts with no “useful skill” like a sweet grenade or a buff…put time into one and you will beast it.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #8

I agree once you start using caltrop grenades (loads of xp if used correctly) hacking and spotting mines and enemies you really are a useful tool. I’ve had matches that I never fire a shot I just stand with the other team in disguise and spot them over and over and guard objectives racking up xp sometimes up to 9 10 thousand.

(peteXnasty) #9

Caktrops are better than landmines as proximity alarms.

(pinion120) #10

The map hack is the operative’s best skill and is available at level 2 I think? Maybe 3. You hack a corpse and your entire team gets enemy dots on their minimap. The best players use the minimap and that ability is game changing. Do it often please, operatives.

Edit:read wrong way round. Good link

(mine is broken) #12

I can’t quote stuff cuz I’m on a phone but Pete’s first post is dead nuts. Hi lvl ops are beast.

(nephandys) #13

I have a lvl 20 op and have got to agree that until you are getting some ability unlocks they’re pretty useless. However, especially once you get caltrops the class really begins to shine. Caltrops creates an amazing area of denial, kills a surprising amount of people, and let’s you control entire areas. At the same time by level 20 the op has 4 grenades (if you chose those skills) and has something for every situation (frag, sticky, cal, and EMP). Also while leveling I can XP whore as an op like no other. Every corpse yields roughly 275+ XP with a com hack and disguise. For the hell of it I just tried to see how much XP I could rack up with different classes. So far my op has come out on top with a current record of 13,700ish XP in one round.

(shedim) #14

It’s still way more difficult for Operatives to get XP im comparison to the other classes and the fact you can’t do sheet in disguise is just laughable. Heck, you can’t even reload your gun. That’s garbage.

Operatives should get some ability when disguised, like a backstab or a double damage headshot with a revolver while behind the enemy or something.

(santo) #15

operative isnt useless, its just a more cerebral class. not to say that the other class dont require as much depth of thought, its just that expecting the operative to have some immediate effect on the battlefield isnt the best way to go about it. Remember, be sneaky about it. helll, you can be an extremely relevant operative and not fire a shot. Providing uav’s, hacking turrets, emp’ing whole mine/turret fields, dropping caltrops to piss your opponent off, etc…these are all relevant and valid abilities. Its just not a spamming class where you get a bunch of in a situation and let their abilities loose. the op is very relevant though, so long as theres 1 (2 during op objectives) to work with. All in all, its just not the immediate/ action ready class people want it to be.

Did you not read the post I just made? After medic operatives have the EASIEST time getting XP. For every enemy that dies you get 275+ xp for a com hack and a disquise. Try doing this to every corpse you find if you want to really focus on XP gain and come back and let us know how that works. As I indicated above I have gotten 13,700XP in one round with my operative pre-20.

After I hit 20, I told my team about this and they all started doing it to get to lvl 20 ASAP. They all agreed it worked wonders. (Not that it takes too long to hit 20 on any class).

Using the Corpse is awesome and a SD classic from ET.

But yes, Op is less fun than other SD games. I just wish there was a Backstab.

(fprovost) #18

If only we’d have a COLOR WHEEL instead of 5-6 color palette.

Color Problems solved.

(pikasecks) #19

Thanks for this! But is there also an abilities chart? Like something that would outline how much damage a satchel does? or a cortex bomb? or how much % is a weapon buff vs improved weapon buff?

I agree with this exactly, I just dont feel operatives are as useful as other classes, unless they need to hack a primary objective…

It doesn’t have to be a one hit kill backstab, but maybe just a stronger unique melee? or something?

would be pretty sweet on some customizations. but its nice to have unique patterns too, on top of some sliding colors.

Operative is my favorite class. They can wipe the entire enemy team if they don’t spot you in time. It’s pretty easy to get top kills and only medics can out score you on the leaderboard if your smart about using your abilities. The only downside is that having more than one on your team is a waste. You only need one operative unless your doing a hack objective. The fact that you don’t need supplies to get xp is a huge plus.
