I think that the project got canceled.

It was posted in Crossfire while ago.

The first ETLive (community project) is running fine on Windows in IE and Firefox.

At the moment I am writing the documenation for the project and it will be released as OpenSource Project.

We use a multibrowser/multiplatform plugin technology to support all the different browsers on the different operating systems.

The plan is to release the documentation and source code until the end of this year. We (Eamon aka. Dutchmeat + me) are invited to present the project in december at a conference, so we are eager to release everything before the conference.

If somebody else is working on the same project… let me know!

And here some Screenshots from an early Version:

Stay tuned!

Do keep in mind that our demo here is only a proof of concept that ET actually runs in your browser.
To create an ETLive version you will have to create a player system with login, stats, friends.
After you’ve done that you will still have to tweak ET to fix existing bugs and of course you will have to create an anticheat system.

Unfortunatly this all can’t be achieved because the community doesn’t own the rights of ET, so a 1-1 port to a browser isn’t allowed.
This is why assets also have to be recreated.

Long story short, alot has still to be done untill you can play it, and you need to get approval of Activision, or whoever owns the ET franchise.
However, if you’ve got a good team, maybe you can ask for permission.

Nevertheless, It’s quite cool you can have a shooter in your browser like QuakeLive, with fairly little extra programming on the game side.

Wow. W:ET as a browser plugin. That’s a neat project…

Well… again something nice will go down beacause of no respond from Activision… they will never give permission to community ;<

+1, the community needs to create its own assets!

DO NOT call it Enemy Territory or Wolfenstein and remove all trademarks.

The community already owns the source code. We just have to create our own assets (ideally under a permissive CC license.) Then we don’t need permission from Activision.

If the name is a problem, just call it ETLive and never mention anything else

(Infinitypl123) #9

Good point

(Apologet) #10

It’s mostly a problem with the assets.
But we can release the source and the compiled dll/so files. But then you still have to copy the pk3’s etc. by hand into the game folder.
It’s not that handy, but imho better than nothing. Right?

(Crytiqal) #11

That would be no problem i think if you make this an installer downloadable from an offical www.etlive.com website?

(Runeforce) #12

We would need professional help to decipher that. My guess would be no, you are not allowed to do that (only in unaltered form, including binaries. So it’s incompatible with GPL modifications of the source code.). The problem is the UELA itself, which is very restrictive and go above and beyond normal legal responsibilities. Basically you have NO RIGHTS what-so-ever when using the assets covered by the uela.

It’s done.
From 2009 locations changed, the rationale, the objective…
You got already Live Enemy Territory but the Quake Wars one in Asia as P4F model.
The computers games are made to give revenue, nobody will grant You permission to create auxiliary non-profit sequel/API what can risk loosing money.

Of course I / we keep focus on any nice ET activity and wish You success guys, but new Live(Web) feature will change anything ? Is it really big problem just click ET or use Xfire/SL launcher ….
