Yea, I noticed no readme with a thanks to Marko for his permission in using his map mlb_temple.
“Death before dishonor” It may be dishonorable to run such a map like this on your server. I am going to remove it. Zero credit to the real maker. Whats up with that?

Damn that terrain seems to scream for phong shading. To put it mildly, it could have needed some more work.

Edit: And yeah, if the original map is used without permission just fucking delete it and come up with something of your own.

Who cares? Well I’m sure the MLB crew do for one - I see no credit for them at all in that ReadMe and thats just low. The MLB guys spend hours on their maps, release betas, test for any bugs, do any fixes needed etc - and you can’t even give a bit of credit… :expressionless:

if marko is very upset about this could he not take a leaf out of ET nagware and in his next pk3 realses include a small bsp file overwriting this map and stopoing it running?

A quick cut from rtcwfiles submition rules:

“We won’t accept any files whose contents seem legally questionable; this includes files that embed a hacked executable or include copyrighted materials used without explicit consent/permission e.g. ripped off from an other game/mod.”

Someone should point that out to there admins…o wait.

you may have not made it but your supporting it by advertising it and running it on your your server…marko, lowlife and bob have put countless hours into their contributions to this community and brought us some kick ass maps… its a shame to see sad feckers like this…

I thought it was pretty telling how these “authors” haven’t bothered to show their faces in any mapping forums that I know of to give some PR to their project.

My first thoughts on the map, was that it was just a blatant ripoff on Desert Temple, though thanks to these screens that were finally posted, there is some decent original work done on this. The mappers of this version should never have claimed copyright on this and should have gotten permission from MLB in order to use their stuff.

They didn’t. So what might have been a decent sniper map, with a couple seemingly original touches, loses it’s audience before it even gets off the ground. Sniper maps, much like Trickjumps are not my thing, so I for one wouldn’t have bothered putting this on a server in the first place, but others have already started taking them down…

To all aspiring mappers and even accomplished ones, I hope the lesson is learned. Want to use something from someone else? Get their permission and keep a copy of it as well (whether it be e-mail or IM chat), then make sure you give them credit in the Readme file.

and Flak, most all news, maps, tools, mods, etc… are always posted on rtcwfiles.com (and other sites) when they are released so the rest of the ET community can enjoy them!
