Teamspeak for Alpha Players

(montheponies) #1

After the UK/Germany game, there was a lot of discussion on teamspeak about the current state of the game and moreover the tendency for the forum to descend into general bickering.

It occurred to me that it would make a lot of sense for there to be a SD Teamspeak server for the Alpha players and SD employees (if they dare) to meet up and play.

I know some of the clans will have their own teamspeak server - i guess the point here is that this would be somewhere ‘official’ for everyone currently involved.

(Protekt1) #2

An IRC would be nice.

I haven’t seen much bickering at all here tbh.

(MrFunkyFunk) #3

Aside some heated debates between the usual suspects, I don’t really see any bickering here either :penguin:

I know a few use Potty’s TS3, but some months ago a few people suggested an official TS already.
It would make sure we only have alpha testers on it and it would be THE gathering point for players & devs alike. It makes the community more lively.

IRC, hmm yeah I don’t predict a lot of interest for it (I haven’t had a working Qnet account since 2006), altho I hope we do get an integrated client chat in the future (global & private rooms).

(Mao.) #4

Yeah its an exlelent idea .

To discusss about the game and the communitie it woulb be very usefull. And its more fun to play with ts in pub.

If there is one i would be connect every time I play Db.

(BomBaKlaK) #5

For the french players or the ones who want, we use the TS of our clan. (http://clan-aieuh.xooit.fr/index.php)
Open to all the nice and fun people. register on the forum to get the pass or ask us directly.

We want to talk with you folks about the game, but discussing it with you on any sort of voice comms etc is a very scary thing to do as it can put us in very compromising situations. I’ve seen a few developers in the past year attempt this kind of stuff on platforms like Twitch TV and unfortunately it’s always ended up with abusive members of the community hijacking the session :frowning:

Q&As via Twitter, the forums, Twitch chat etc are all much better for us because it means we can moderate them in a way that a small minority can’t ruin if for everybody.

By all means use comms to discuss the game with each other, that’s awesome! Just make sure there aren’t non-alpha folks present

(woll3) #7

If i remember correct, there is a function to give talk rights and take them away for each person on TS3, not to mention that you could always kick problematic individuals. Also i dont see a problem since nothing of what would happen on this server is meant for public, and tbh it would probably help alot to understand different views and why some things are like they are.

(tokamak) #8

Just use a mediator. Works in the Starcraft community where tons of these sessions happen.

And yeah I remember the way Rahdo got grilled when he tried that for Brink. Not pretty.

(MrFunkyFunk) #9

It’s understandable for the “serious discussion” part, but to get back to the core favour: is it possible you set up an official com for the people hanging around on the game servers?

(Mustang) #10

I thought this was about using Teamspeak for play purposes until in-game VOIP makes an appearance.

No need to discuss any design decisions, just play.

(rapid_shot) #11

KillinFreak any myself co-own a clan and we have our own TeamSpeak we are willing to let people use. But just so you guys know, we can and will remove you from it if you become a problem. Also, keep all Dirty Bomb chat in the Dirty Bomb channel and Dirty Bomb sub-channels, that is the only pass-worded channel you will have access to. Otherwise, some of our members might come in wondering who you are and over-hear things.

IP: 63.209.37.2:9145
Pass: sunclan
Dirty Bomb Channel Pass: dbalphatest

If you have any issues connecting let me know.

I you guys are Interested, i can also order a teamspeak / mumble / raidcall server. Which one do you prefer ?

(stealth6) #13

I am VERY interested in a voip server for the alpha players, I always try to ask if anybody is on one when I play. I love talking to teammates, taunting enemies and having lengthy discussions about everything. (It’s so much easier when you don’t have to type it all)

Thats what I thought. Anti would never join the same voip as me when it came to design decisions.

Everyone is welcome to use that teamspeak we have been using for a while. Last night there was a few of us on (me, Seanza, mon, Mustang, Mao, Kendle, Samurai) and we had a pretty in depth convo about where DB is heading. It was a real eye opener on how other people viewed the game at this stage. I feel there is WAY too much negetivity on the forums and it does put people off of leaving feedback. I think we all agreed unless you have a valid point, either for or against the post, leave it out.

Was great to actually chat to a few of you. I will post a draft game soon! (probs to play tomorrow night?!)

(demsix) #16

Will there ever be chat built into the dirty bomb client? It would be nice to have some sort of general chat for players to either hang-out or arrange games outside of servers.

One thing that bothers me in games these days is when you load them up they feel empty, like there is no sense of community except server numbers. When I load a game, I’d like to see news, number of users online and a general chat room. On launch, this might require stricter tools to report and combat spam, but it adds so much social value I’d love to see something like this.

Much like CS / TFC’s WON chat rooms, but more moderated (Potentially by community?)

it is on the features list afaik

(Rex) #18

We had this already at the very beginning of the alpha, but it was hardly used by anyone after some weeks.

(Mao.) #19

So where we go? On potty ts?
I will connect in when I play I hope some poeple join me

(MrFunkyFunk) #20

Lot of people offered their voice coms, now we need to pick one and use it for good.
The connection info in one of the sticky on this forum would help make it used by the maximum of people, new players will be able to find it easily without digging out the posts.
