Teamplay "A Matter of Class" in New Brink Trailer

(Spaiker) #41

I can’t stop watching at it :o

(Zarlor) #42

Looking great!

I think all of the TF2 references are due to the “buff bubbles” from the medic and soldier. I never liked them because they seem really out of place in the game world to me. If those were a HUD element then I think it wouldn’t seem so out of place getting visual feedback for a buff…

I hope it doesn’t turn off some people who would otherwise get the game.

00:22 - 00:40 in game music :D, sweeet… i really need this for my ringtone

Absolutely, Outstanding.

Nice trailer! I like the smile on the Resistance robot.
Reading the youtube comments for the machinima loaded version of the vid makes me sad :(
First rule of the Internet:
Never ever take Youtube comments seriously. Never. They are not worth your attention or time.

Will the PC version have a different HUD - that is, not covering the entire screen (imagine playing this in 2560*1600) and weapons that block less than 1/4th of the screen (standard fov???)?

Sorry, I don’t mean to sound negative, but after the disaster that is the Crysis 2 PC Demo, I am worried

(tokamak) #47

I’m afraid we’re getting the same treatment when it comes to that.

(DarkangelUK) #48

Fov adjustments should reduce the largeness of the weapon slightly.

Looks awesome SD, can’t friggin wait! Would appreciate more info on ability upgrades.

Actually looking at it, the end of the gun barrel is pretty close to the crosshair. As a comparison I loaded RtCW (first game to hand, quick… and yes I know, old) and set to fov 90, and the end of the barrel went half the distance up the screen as it does in Brink.

Can’t remember if ET did it (think maybe ETPro did?), but I like in QL how you can position you gun on the screen precisely where you want it with z-axis cvars etc.

The last bit of the trailer is really cool with much action going on, but for instance the medic revive clip was just dull imo.
I like the intro music a lot!

(crazyfoolish) #52

Do you guys think that this is the start of a new series of trailers or just a standalone?

(Seyu) #53

The reception to this trailer on gaming sites is rather disconcerting. Other than the ET veterans everyone seems to have assumed that the game is a TF2 clone and the radial objective wheel is proof enough of Brink for pc being a console port.

I think this is what has led people to believe that Brink is a TF2 clone.

LOOKS GREAT!!! good to see some new info…thanks

If they don’t care about the PC version, our last hope for good PC multiplayer FPS is gone…

Except we got to see the medic do a health upgrade, he stabbed the guy with the syringe instead of tossing it to him.

So Horse was right on that one on how he interpreted a dev comment that medics are back wards in their class actions, “they buff from up close and interact from far away” (or something like that).

Yep. Not sure you can sell the concept in a short clip though, people don’t get how it affects teamwork until they do it (even then I think most don’t realize the impact). Hell, it sounds like you guys even played around with letting anyone do the objectives and spawning on your own team mates, like somehow you didn’t get it either  …and yeah, I guess you have to try different things to see what works and what doesn’t but seriously though, that just blew me away when I heard that. Hopefully they didn’t waste too much time, lol.

But back on topic, I think you need a longish trailer to sell the excitement, maybe a fly through overview of the map and a quick look/description of each objective and who needs to do it, then a sea-saw battle for one (a plant would be good) where there’s at least one clutch disarm. You wouldn’t have to show every objective being completed, just a nice heavy back and forth battle for it and then it finally getting finished (maybe just barely). You might need a voice over (get Greased to pretend shoutcast it

Would need to be a longish trailer though. Not sure why they are so short, I remember BC2 having longish trailers and still wishing they were even longer when I was waiting for that game to come out. the longer the batter as far as I was concerned. Those trailers were very well done as far as getting people totally hyped out.

I really liked the trailer but it seemed a little rushed compared to choir of guns. The part with the medic kneeling down and throwing a syringe to a guy right there… eh kind of boring. I think maybe the guy rushing to get to him and as soon as he gets into range throwing the syringe and then cutting to the guy using it. Lots of cutting back and forth would have been really cool. And I wish these trailers were longer.

This is a decent intro video. Also, the graphics also seem to be more consistent than those shown in the “Choir” vid – the footage is all from more recent builds, I think.

People (outside this forum) will have to realize that in almost every way that Splash Damage is innovating and improving in the FPS genre the end result is less flashy rather than more flashy. Solid, well thought-out gameplay decisions have made it appear less spectacular (e.g., disguised operative shoots sentry operator from behind instead of ominously knifing him, medic throws a syringe instead of reviving the incapped, no sniper class kills). This is less satisfying visually, but incredibly important for solid, balanced, replayable/enduring gameplay.

The game design is brilliant, and observant, patient, hardcore gamers will understand what they are witnessing.

Also, while the youtube comments are stupid (as always) most of the response comments in the gaming blogs are positive.

This is an incredibly challenging game to market because it runs subtle and deep. If it weren’t for the art direction and the extensive customization, all the gameplay design brilliance might be completely lost as customers claim it is “just another generic shooter”. From a marketing and sales perspective, those two factors saved the day. Word of mouth and an unlimited single level, timely released demo are going to be very important, I think.

Good video!

“…most of the response comments in the gaming blogs are positive…”

I’ll disagree
