Team killing

(Apples) #21

TK’ing is a MUST in any game, else its spamland…

(Cankor) #22

The way it’s dealt with:

 1. Play on well admined servers where griefers are quickly given a perma ban.
 2. Play on servers where there is an option to vote kick
 3. On BLOPS you can apparently issue a temp ban if you TK more than some amount (set in server config). Even if you are doing it accidentally it should make you be more careful. I kind of like that option.
While its understandable that FF on isn’t forced, what happens is players develop bad habits and then bring these into servers where FF is actually on.
Exactly. We will probably need a big message of the day “FF is on, be carefull or you will be removed from the server.”
In a perfect world FF-ON will force your teammates to play smarter and more careful, but unfortunately I rarely see that as true. KZ2 playing with FF-ON was a nightmare.

In Brink, is it 100% ON or OFF? Or can you alter the percentage? I think 50% FF-ON would be a good setting.
huh, how can you have it half on and half off? What, every other bullet misses  If you are asking about a global percent for console choices (PC you just go to the server of your choice), why wouldn’t you just have FF on as a preference in your setting so you play with others with the same preference? So if 80% of the people want FF off then 80% of the games will be played that way. I’d be surprised if it’s not like that.

(Mad Hatter) #23

I think he means FF is on, but you can only hurt your allies down to 50% of their health, maybe. Which isn’t a terrible idea. You still have to be careful not to hurt your own guys, but you can’t actually kill them yourself. You could still easily cause them to die if you aren’t careful though.

(trigg3r) #24

i know there won’t be any global stats or leaderboard.

But is there going to be a scoreboard ingame?

(X-Frame) #25

When I mean 50% FF-ON, I mean that if, for example, I inflict a certain amount of damage in an area with my teammates and enemies inside … the enemies receive the full 100% of damage while my teammates only suffer 50% of the damage.

Shooting a teammate in the back will mean that the bullet damage coming from my gun will be 50% of what it normally is when shooting at enemies. Same with explosives, etc.

Simply put, all damage values are cut in half with friendly-fire. This way there’s still the threat of injuring teammates without teamkilling being so prevalent.

(Weapuh) #26

FF default off, that’s sad.

(H0RSE) #27

Why’s it sad? turn it on if you want it on - same goes for voip.

(Weapuh) #28

because default being off is an indication of what the market wants.

(H0RSE) #29

And your point? I always choose to play with it on, and I don’t see a problem with it.

And in all fairness, I don’t think their decision to have FF off by default, was purely based off what the market wants. I think it has something to do SD’s attempt at making Brink appeal to gamers of all shapes and sizes (and skill levels).

(Weapuh) #30

So appeals and wants are completely separate entities? pretty sure you said the same thing, and if not then that’s what i found was sad. Because it’s a large part of the game-play (as was said before) that default, people will be missing and that makes me sad.

(H0RSE) #31

What I meant was, what is a person more likely to try for the first time - riding a dirt bike on a flat surface, or jumping over 18 helicopters?

having FF off by default is is riding the dirt bike normally. If they like it and get the hang of it, then they can try jumping over helicopters if they want (FF on.)

(Weapuh) #32

Jump over 18 helicopters clearly (awesome lol). True enough for the comfort level but I wonder if it’s just being a bit too cautious towards newcomers. What’s the incentive to play the game with FF off besides pre-disposed personal preference(wow alliteration), how will anyone know they are missing another way to play the game. I’m not terribly worried about myself I trust plenty of servers will have it on, Brink will already bride players to play online. Will FF be on in single player by default as well you suppose? nothing wrong with wanting someone to try the game you way like(not saying that’s what you’re saying, just stating  ).

(H0RSE) #33

What’s the incentive to play the game with FF off besides pre-disposed personal preference

What’s the incentive to playing with it on? I play with FF on, because the game is more fun for me that way - it’s my personal preference.

how will anyone know they are missing another way to play the game.

Wouldn’t this apply if FF on was the default as well? Also, who’s to say others want to play it any other way?

Will FF be on in single player by default as well you suppose?

I would assume so.

(Weapuh) #34

Well if it’s on in single player whats the reason to have it off by default online if it’s truly a seamless online offline experience?
There is no incentive to have it FF enables online, that’s exactly my point, and some people won’t be exposed to what you and I find “more fun”. Nobody is to say which way anyone is to play their own game, don’t really see how you could be missing much by never playing with it off, save a few weird mutations of the game where you can spy check and other things that would be fundamentally different.

Anyways I think we can agree that it’s a great part of certain (and hopefully including this one) games. Which should at least be taken a gander at.

(LyndonL) #35

I think the reason FF is off by default is due griefers.

(Apples) #36

fixed that for ya, you can send me ca$h later

(madoule) #37

are a a mean frenchman. j/k
continue!

(amazinglarry) #38

I’m cool with it being off, so long as they can’t nade/arty/whatever spam their own objectives and not pay a price for their teammates being in the way.

But if it’s configurable, then I’m just praying for some decent FF On Servers. No biggy.

(BondyBoy007) #39

I agree with most of the ppl on here when they say FF needs to be ON to encourage proper teamwork and tactics rather than spam

But it is a rather sad sign of the console influence on FPS games, it seems as though console gamers just can’t control themselves when FF is off - COD has alot to answer for

(LyndonL) #40

Don’t get me wrong - I’d much rather FF on and that’s how my server will be. But I’m pretty sure the reason for FF off was cited as TKers and Noobs alike.

WOoooooooooooooo “I’m never gonna give you up, I’m never gonna let you down…”
