Team balance issues

(LuLNope) #1

The way teams are being balanced at the start of every match (both Objective and Stopwatch modes) needs to be changed. Right now balanced, public matches are extremely rare.

In Objective mode most of public games end very quickly with overpowered team either getting a full hold over the attackers, or finishing map within a few minutes.

In Stopwatch it’s usually a very quick round when the stronger team is attacking, and then full hold in the next.

I often see all low-level players put in 1 team, and high levels stacked in the other. Like, really, all new players are more often than not in 1 team. It’s not an exaggeration, a few minutes ago I saw a match start with one team being full of single digit players, and the other full of 15+ levels and no one tried to deliberately stack. It happens way too often to be acceptable. Being spawn-trapped for 5+ minutes probably isn’t attracting new players and spawn trapping increasingly frustrated players isn’t fun for the other team.

If teams are made randomly, then at the very least implement some placeholder. For example some simple function that would put ppl in teams in a way that would keep the difference in the sum of player’s levels as small as possible. That would surely give better results than random teams.

I think there is some supposed matchmaking system in place. Problem with these stats-based systems also lies in the fact that stats tend to be heavily biased by how stacky a particular player is.

Players that switch teams to balance will have considerably worse stats, compared to players who are happily chipping away at newbies.

We will have much more to say on this topic real soon. I’ll keep this thread updated and let you guys know.

Maybe at least vote for lvl shuffle. Right now there is a lot of hassle when two teams have the same amount of players. You need to jump to spec, wait till someone from opp team jumps to spec, change teams ect.

It’ll be much easier when there is a bigger player base.

*Dreams of having 100k active players

(neg0ne) #6

everybody is dreaming of 100k players  but still a good way to have balanced teams is cruicial to get to this point. in my point of view its the most important improvement this game needs. if everything was perfect in this game it would still suck if your just get overrun by a way better team. or otherway arround: even a “not really finished” map like dome is fun with matching teams.
close game = good game

Any changes to team balancing in this patch? Some matches still are terrible. Last night’s 5 good players against me, 2 newbies and an afk made me angry enough to quit for the day.

(MissMurder) #8

There’s not a patch that has any game changes quite yet.

I know this is a month late but I whole heartedly agree with this suggestion.

I know you said there will be news on this soon… I’m just putting in my 2 cents.

Thanks.

Hopefully matchmaking will do it’s job and solve this issue when it’s implemented.

When when?
Soon?

We’ve been working on it and testing it internally so fingers crossed

Wow very cool. I remember testing it month’s ago and it was a work in progress.

cant wait to test it again!

I also cant wait to see the ranking system!!!

Adding lvl locked servers in open beta/release might be a good idea.

(The99thProblem) #15

Definitely a good idea. New players need to be able to get an actual feel for the game instead of facing pros. It is definitely worrisome for beginners to be spawn camped by a better team.

(NuclearSharkhead) #16

Of course also add free channels for new people who don’t mind playing versus an incredibly high skill level. I’d rather get killed over and over and play with an experienced team that knows what it’s supposed to be doing than get tons of kills but play with a newbie team that doesn’t know what teamwork is.

(Jeebs) #17

It’s impossible to balance for new players with no stats. I had my first game this weekend and destroyed it. because of my knowledge from previous SD games.

(LuLNope) #18

Necro a bit.

Thread was relevant when there was no matchmaking and playerbase was an order of magnitude smaller.

(cosmopolitanSponge) #19

In other words… wait for people to get more keys and see how they think of it and then once it launches, then we can complain about balancing issue

I got a slight feel that Objective and SW matchmaking is based on Lvl. Had too many matches where it was like:
[high lvls + low lvls] vs [average lvls]

But this matchmaking wont work. I hope it was just a feel and not a fact.
