True Combat: Elite total conversion for Enemy Territory has an update released for the Test.

The update makes some fairly major changes to gameplay, an overview of which is in a recent newspost at TC:Elite. It is an update, so it requires you to already have the previous version of TC:Elite test installed - of course you’ll also need Enemy Territory patched to v1.02, all of which can be found in the downloads section.

The update can be downloaded here on Jolt, or from the multiple mirrors listed on TC:E. Apparently, to install “just put all files in your tcetest [folder]”, i.e. don’t leave them in any tcetest_update folder which may be created when you unzip.

As promised, they also released a mappers’ development kit, which can also be found here on Jolt or the TC:E website.

the weapon changes are interesting, but i really detest the player movement changes they made. all movement feels like slogging through mud now, and jumping has practically been eliminated. strafe+forward movement is also very odd now.

the ingame browser is busted now too :bash: :bash: :bash:

i do like the new maps and the new ‘sun glare’ effect they did.

I think they went a little overboard on the jumping… bunnyhopping in a realistic game like TC:E might be dumb, but restricting jumps to that extent is a bad idea imo. Also, I’m confused by the sudden lack of weapon choices. The reinforced objective mode is great, though.

They made it nearly impossible to get on the trains on railhouse thanks to the limiting of jumping…they need to code some kind of a climb feature to fix it.
The player movement is far too slow, especially on objective maps where you have only a few minutes to complete the map.
The new maps and gametype are good though.

the jump is just silly, you wouldnt be able to jump over a fag end on the street. the slower strafe is a bit odd too, and leaves no room for any kind of avoidance. 3d sights are quite groovy tho.
