Tap Out

(Cordyceps) #1

I’ve been noticing a bit of a trend in gameplay lately, not a huge one, but still a noticeable one. When players are downed, and they can see that someone is going to finished them off, they’ll just tap out to say “screw you” and deny players finish XP. Is there any way to discourage players from doing this?

Sure, you could change it so the killer gets finish XP when the downed guy gives up his ghost.

(Splicerrr) #3

I only do that when I get pancaked.

It’s a trap

(nokiII) #5

Why do you even think this is a problem? Them tapping out saves you bullets, be thankful.

(GatoCommodore) #6

i usually just “K” out if there are no medic around and im downed because newbies sometimes suicidal and tries to revive with hand

and if you got the kill you also get the finish exp if the guy “K” out i think.

It costs you XP. Using a melee is another way to save bullets.

Lol, that glorious 40-100 XP. Most people only finish around 10-20 people in a match, and only a fraction of those players actually tap out. That means the amount of XP you’re missing out on is negligible at best.
It’s not going to stop you from topscoring if you did well, and it’s not going to massively increase the amount of time it takes to level up.

Talking about the actual “trend” though, it’s been going on for as long as I can remember. I’ve had it done to me, and I’ve done it to other people. I’ve never interpreted it as a “fuck you”, and I’ve never meant it as one either when I did it to someone. It’s just a playful taunt, same as using the screw you command when someone kills you. If it really bothers you that much, you’re just taking the game too seriously in general.

If it really bothers you that much, a string of headshots can usually take out a downed player faster than they can react to tap out. But otherwise no, there’s nothing you can do.

Ensuring an enemy isn’t going to be revived shouldn’t be rewarded in the same way as just leaving an enemy lying on the ground and hoping no one revives them before they can tap out.

lets look at it another way, if someones playing defensively and you knock them down and they see you running toward them, they could be baiting you to that point to get someone else to get you and then by k-ing out before you get them its just adding salt to the wound.

Or they’re just assholes, either or works

I always tap out in pubs.
I don’t want to miss the spawn wave if I get a random tap revive from some level 5. I don’t have the slightest care about xp in this game.
And I always immediately tap out when a non medic is trying to revive me while I’m aware that there are enemies nearby.
If I’ve died right after the spawn wave I do wait around, only to watch my level 5 medic run over my body which is fun…

If I had a better experience with pub medics, it might not be a habit.

On a side note, I’d still like to see this.

I always tap out so you don’t get free xp out of my dead body. I sometimes wait with it, just to lure some enemy into a trap.

the amount of pure, raw, unfiltered “Rage” i felt when a medic just ran over me without reviving me is pretty huge.

i dont need more Purified, Distilled, Brewed to perfection “Rage” just because i was shown how a medic just ran past me because apparently that medic hates winning, deaf, blind or both.
goddamn i really hates those medics, i really hate medics like those, they should just kill themselves they should just get thrown off a horse by some hombres wearing sombrero swearing slurs in japanese これはあなたが裏切り者になるものです! あなたが下水道で死ぬことを願っています!

Yeah, I’ve noticed this “trend” also, …lately, in Enemy Territory, some 14± years ago…
Noticed, because I like(d) doing it. How about thinking gibbing the player is not owning him like a 3-year-old cs-kid wants to, but denying him the possibilty to get a free live-feed of the front and informing mates about it.
Sorry kid, but if you got a problem with having some “grim/respectful smile on your face” for people tapping out just in time before you gib them, I am sorry for you.

PS: @Eox , in some other thread you asked where the toxicity comes from…
We got this here, we get flodded with people having terrible connections spawning around or beeing on the wrong servers in the first place. We got nethackers, scriptkiddies and botters/whers (hard to tell, because, what info you can gather, kekoles stuff from open-beta still works, so probably open-end-“happy-time” for braindamaged people), we got tons of noobs not giving a damn about the objective even if the teams aren’t to bad, who the fuck even cares about the turorial, and why not play stopwatch as a new player having not a single clue…
Probably we should simply wait until the “No Obj”-Crying BattleMedic-Pros are the majority here, too, can’t take to long. Didn’t take much more to kill RTCW/ET.
PS2: That’s where my toxicity starts.

But you do know the game is about scoring the highest amount of points…or that is how a lot of people play. The objectives don’t matter when you’re at the top of the scoreboard!

Hey, at least tap outs affect everyone equally, lol

DENIED.

Keep your knife away from me you casual scum.

Honestly it’s just a playful taunt, and if you can get them to try and finish you and cancel out it’s just fun and could sometimes work as a bait tactic I guess… but I really don’t see the problem with it.

I love tapping out. Sometimes I tap out right before they finish me, and they get confused so they come back to my dead corpse to check again. Hehehehe I’m so evil…

I used to do this kind of thing but taken a step further… I’d make sure I died on top of a friendly Proxy mine and watch them blow themselves up when they come to gib me >:)
