Taking one for the team

(NotARelevantTarget) #1

I was playing some Supreme Commander 2 yesterday and noticed my artillery was killing aircraft that got in their line of fire. Shortly afterwards I was watching my brother play Quarry as GDF, he jumped in an Anansi, I saw an incoming Dark Matter blast and asked him to ‘intercept’ it.
Being a tad rubbish at flying, he missed (and again later) so I’m wondering if anyone could clear this up for me:
Would the Dark Matter have just gone through him unaffected (like deployables can) or would it have triggered on him, creating an airburst and being much cooler?
Would the same apply to the Hammer?
I expect the Anansi to die in any case, but glorious suicides are always fun.

Tormentor or Anansi will die, but they destroy the Dark Matter or Hammer in the air.
You can even do this with a “simple” rocketlaunchershot  But this needs a little bit more training…

Btw: next question please!

Like rex said, it will kill the anansi/tormy. Here’s a vid my bro did of a RL AIT

There’s always an effect with deployables. If you mean their friendly fire, or an AVT hitting infantry: It’s still a (team)kill. When it drops, it’s also a kill.

I have very rarely shot a law to intercept a dmc, but i never got it on a demo.

Thanks all for the answers, and a bonus video too!

That’s what I meant, a falling deployable hitting an aircraft destroys the aircraft but the deployable carries on. I also enjoy Magog kills.

I remember Asset and Orrie doing it a few times with an Obliterator, too.

It’s not necroposting if it’s on the first page, right?
Anyhoo, I saw an incoming DMC get blocked by a Violater last night, so that’s nice.
But the reason I’m posting is another question, saw this death message yesterday on Outskirts and can’t figure out what happened:

SomeGuy couldn’t stop the leak

Boat suicide? Explosive decompression? A level-specific hazard, like taking the slipgate to oblivion?

That happens when you drive a vehicle into water that’s not designed to function in water. Husky, tank, armadillo, cyclops (I think), flyers etc. It takes a while, but if underwater for too long, the vehicle will decay and if you’re inside you’ll get that message.

Hammer interception with flyer drones ftw! (and it’s much easier and more reliable than using oblits.)

(light_sh4v0r) #11

Does that kill you?

(Runeforce) #12

No, that’s the beauty! You can “take one (incomming hammer out) for the team” as an infiltrator, without dying.

That’s awesome. Funny to think that 3 years later on and we are still finding out new stuff like this.

(NotARelevantTarget) #14

I’m not going to be happy until I manage that with the flyer drone, awesome.

(Dthy) #15

IIRC, a cyclops can walk through the water without taking damage since it’s tall enough not to.

Depends how deep water is.
