Tactical scanner ?

(FireWorks) #1

Do Tier2 buffs show up as one or two symbols?

Very distracting ability anyway… shoot to kill is my motto.

Selecting targets after I point my crosshair on them to trigger the intuition? Hmm…

I had trouble figuring out the worth. I purchased the ability. I need to try it more. But may get rid of the ability eventually. Not sure.

I’m not sure but I will try to post link to video if I upload it that has screenshots of the tactical scanner in game. But I have seen it show two engineer symbols under it. Whether that means they were buffed by one person and then someone else buffed them with level 2 or that they just got buff level 2 I am not sure.

Shoot the guy with the most decorations!
That’s how they did it in ww2 and if it was good enough for them then it’s good enough for Ark scum

kevlar + weapon?

(cptincognito) #6

Anything that makes medics easier to spot is a good thing.

(Swolenator) #7

hmm good point it could be just that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu2e0HgTey4

4:33 Tactical Scanner to 4:51

I haven’t tested to see if that is the case would be interesting to know though.

There just seems to be so many more helpful abilities than this one. It would be a waste of a credit for me because I’m firing before I even look at their class!

(FireWorks) #9

This skill definitly doesnt.

Everyone could have medic buffs. Or engineer buffs. Its even likelier to confuse it when you see 3 medic symbols for buffs while the actual class is an operativ.

I hopped on my main lvl 20 last night and gained two levels then sold them to try out new abilities while still being a 20. I tried out tactical scanner and in all honesty it made me go “meh.” You already see the persons class symbol and now you can see their buffs. However, I find that you cant really see what buffs the person has on them unless you are ADS and look for a sec or two. If you are far away or hip firing you cant really differentiate what buffs they have just that they have buffs (and im playing on a 52" LCD tv). It really doesn’t help that the health bar, class icon, and buff icons are all orange so they just meld together. I sold my level again and wont be picking up TS. Maybe if the buffs were differentiated by color or somethign it woudl be more useful to me but as it is Ill just put that point somewhere else.

I think it has its use for newbs when they cry cheat, while I own them with double kevlar and double weapon buff. Though the passive soldier kevlar wont be shown I guess.

But id like to have these assumptions confirmed:)

I think this ability is even weaker due to the fact that this game is already overflowing with visual indicators. You already have the ability to see many of the buffs ingame. Weapon buff = glowing gun, kevlar = sparks when shot, adrenaline = yellow outline, etc. I guess it might be nice to see who has health, speed, metabolism buffs?

Furthermore, you can see people buff each other a lot of the time in game. So there’s either blue, green, or yellow bubbles going up around the player and I know what buff they just got. Like I said I don’t see the point.

I like this ability as it helps me quite a bit, I always take out the medics and power houses plus killing incaps before they get up.

The worst thing about this ability is that there is no way to remove those buffs. If you could temporarily debuff a target then knowing which player has which buffs might matter. Instead, you are still better off shooting the Medic unless another class is about to complete an objective.

(thesuzukimethod) #15

I’m not sure I’ll keep it - basically helps confirm why some targets are a tough takedown. (e.g. a heavy with health and engi buffs). I’ll leave it for awhile…there are a few abilities that i thought were dumb when i first tried them that i now think are essential - others i thought were essential/amazing that i’m meh about.

In such a fast paced game like Brink it seems pretty useless to me. By the time you stare at someon, zoom in to clearly see icons, and then see said icons, you are already either shooting at them or dead from staring too long lol. Only character I could see this being really useful for is for SNIPERS. Since you are gonna be zoomed in most of the time and dont have to worry about taking damage (distance) you can take more time to pick which baddie you wanna shoot. Do you one shot the buffless light or try to chip down the heavily buffed heavy? Other then that its pretty useless IMHO.

I think a better use of this would have been to show enemy classes on the radar too. If you’re hiding around a corner where the enemy is set up, defending an Obj, if you have TacScan, you should be able to see what enemies are hiding around the corner (as long as they’re showing up on your radar anyways because of movement/Comms Hack/UAV/etc.)

Then, you know what you’re dealing with and you can warn your teammates:

“They got 3 Medics hiding in the back corner and 2 Engies near the door!”

That is a pretty solid idea. Most other class-based shooters have very obvious visual cues to indicate which class a player is using; why not give Brink players a boost in that regard?

I’ve gotta say I think that would be way cooler and way more useful than the current implementation of the ability.

Thanks!
