First queston do u think this system will run QW on medium-High settings.
i know no system req’s have been released to the general public.

second queston.- Should i keep this set up or buy a geforce 7800gt& another gig of ram?
just asking for ome opinions. :chef:

more ram is always better

My uneducated guess is that since ET:QW is said to have similar requirements as Doom3, you’ll be able to run it in medium-low detail (6600gt). 1GB ram should be enough. I think your CPU is strong enough to ensure no slowdowns when there are multiple people on screen. So while (my guess) 6600gt is perhaps not the best for high resolution and detail, you should be able to run it in medium and get decent stable fps.

yeah the system should be good enough, but a better (recommend upgrade seen price/quality) could be Geforce 7600GT and another 1 GB of RAM. If your CPU would be to slow you could always overclock it (and teh AMD Athlon 64’s are pretty good for overclocking.

hm lol so i must buy me a new computer…have only:
512mb Ram
CPU: Athlon 2000+
Radeon 9600 Pro

…and all 32bit! :frowning:

I guess you can keep the 9600 pro, I’v got one myself and I can run both doom 3 and quake 4 fine with it
I just have to get myself a gig of ram as I only have 512 at the moment :frowning:

Why not just wait and see? Buy the game, play it and see if you need a better pc, or read some reviews closer to release when they have that info available. I’ve never understood all these “is my pc good enough” posts 5-6 months before release, as if anyone really have a clue.

(Taddy) #8

i want to buy some new things for my pc because one of my ram bank burns for some weeks and if i buy some new ram it is the easiest way to buy a new motherboard with supported ram.
When i buy only ram the ram don`t supported the new motherboards… :frowning:

I second that.

At least I now know for sure that I’m not the only one thinking that. :chef:

Looking at Doom3 specs and all that has been said I would recommend the next config recommondations, but still nothing is sure:

Standard stuff: sound, DVD-rom, keayboard, mouse, monitor HDD, etc.

Minimum (only 30 fps, playable but not more than that)
AMD Athlon XP 2000+/Intel P4 2.0 GHz
512MB of DDR-RAM or RD-RAM for P4
ATI Radeon 9600 128 MB or Geforce FX5200 128 MB

Minimum Xtra (a little higher resolution, still low detail and a little higher framarate)
AMD Athlon XP 2800+/Intel P4 2.8 GHz
1024 MB of DDR-RAM/DDR2-RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 128 MB or Geforce FX5700 128 MB

Recommend (fast enough at normal resolutions, pretty good framerates, good to go  )
AMD Athlon 64 2800+ (s754)/3000+ (S939) / Intel Pentium P4 3.0 GHz
1024 MB DDR-RAM/DDR2-RAM
ATI Radeon X800 series 128 MB/Geforce 6600 DDR2 256MB version/6600GT 128 MB (256 MB recommend for better performance)

I used a higher rankl ATI card because of the OpenGL performance difference between GeForce and Radeon.

Indications on Minimum tested on my own PC (specs):
AMD Athlon XP 1800+ oc at almost 2000+ (1633 MHz vs 1667, but faster memorry DDR 286MHz vs DDR 266 MHz)
1024 MB DDRR Ram
ATI Rradeon 9600pro EZ (400 core/400 mem (slower version, between 9600 and 9600pro)) 256 MB.

800x600 low settings in:
Quake4: stable 30 fps
Doom3: stable 40 fps sometimes drops in 30 fps.
Both just playable in single player, but for multiplayer some extra fps is not bad to react in time…
