Switching between 1.0 and 1.02 + a problem

(Wikkit) #1

Hi and hello.

I wrote a couple of .bat-files which makes it easy to switch back and forth between v1.0 and v1.02, and the package can be found here.

The problem I’m having, and the real reason I’m posting this, is that when reverting to v1.0 I get the error messege “VM_Create on game failed” when trying to host a server. The error messege does not appear when trying to host a server running v1.0 being the first intallation, that is without having reverted from v1.02. Running a server using v1.02 works just fine though, even when switching from v1.0 to v1.02.

I am aware that some registry keys are written/altered during the patching process, and they are not modified when switching back and forth between the two versions. Could this be the reason for the error messege? Or does the problem lie in some other file to which data is written?

If anybody would find the answer and have a solution for it and also share it with me I’d be indepted.

Cheers,
Wikkit

Ive made 2 installations of ET so you can pick wich one you want to play on,just install one with the V1.01 and the other with 1.02 that way theres no problems.

Thanks for your reply, although it’s really a non-answer.

My point was I dont understand what is so hard about just hosting from seperate game installations.

If you wanna host a V 1.01 server then do it from ur 1.01 game installation.

If u wanna host a V1.02 server then terminate the v1.01 server and just host through the 1.02 game installation or vice versa, this doesnt take very long and is very simple to do,thats all I was trying to say.

I apologize if I came off in the wrong way, it was not intentional. I am aware of the different options to get around the problem I described, but I nevertheless want to solve it without having two different versions installed simultaneously.

Don’t you need “qagame_mp_x86.dll” when running 1.00? :???:

(PS. It really isn’t necessary to switch files under \Docs.)

Of course I do! And I don’t know why on earth I didn’t include it. smacks forehead Thanks for pointing that out.

As for the docs they are of course not necessary, but for the sake of consistency I included them as well.

Oh well, the updated package is uploaded.

Thanks,
