Swapping mercs mid game

After playing some pugs recently it has become increasingly frustrating I am having to wait in between rounds for each team to swap out mercs for others. For someone getting ready to run a cup I am now starting to think that with swaps in between rounds you are looking at another 45 minuets delay on the cup ending because people have the ability to swap mid map.

The other thing, which I haven’t seen being abused YET because people do not have access to the pause feature is pausing mid map and then disconnecting to swap out a few mercs because the map has reached a different stage or their previous set up didn’t work.

Not sure how this would be regulated in public play but it really needs a lock on it. Going into each map with 3 mercs should be more than enough. If it isn’t I suggest teams coming up with new tactics or play styles to fix this.

Does anyone else who plays pugs feel there is too much waiting around as it is for maps to change then on top of that swapping mercs mid map?

I had to wait 15s to replay to this thread, another 45s for the reply screen to load, I could only type 3 words per minute and it took 60s for the actual reply to go through.

And THEN, I had to wait 15s to view my reply.

Re: the Pause/Swapout - not sure what could be done to limit this. Limiting pauses would help but would hurt in instances where a player/team were having legitimate issues. Having a screenshot pregame of your selected mercs and monitoring the mercs of people who reconnect after a pause might be something to consider.

Personally, I don’t care if people disconnect/reconnect with different mercs, as long as they are not abusing the pause feature to do it (as you mentioned)

Could do a football style system maybe. Have all the mercs but a limited number of subs per match.

But you already have a choice of 3 mercs from 15. I honestly don’t see why I wait 15 minutes extra because people want to swap in and out between rounds. (Thats 5 mins per map extra btw)

I am of the opinion that you should choose your 3 mercs before the map and you stick with them. You can then change your mercs in time for the next map if you wish.

This is exactly what I mean. I don’t have beef with changing after each map it’s just mid map when swapping from attack to defence or visa versa.

5 mercs- patch needed. got tired of this 3-merc bs, tbh.
i dont care if someone plays sawbones in all maps in all matches. i clearly need 5 mercs to choose from.

I still think the whole force 3 thing is complete bs and I don’t think 5 would be much of an improvement…

I agree with the fact 3 mercs being loaded at once just isn’t enough. Regardless of that though, it frustrates me how long it takes to get a match done right now. You have the following; Lock in timer, Deployment timer, Time for each team to ready up, warm up timer and finally you start the match which 90% of the time is a full hold! You swap teams and it starts over again, minus the lock in and deployment timers.

Lower the timers and allow for at least 5 mercs to be chosen from in game.

New rule: Lock-in means LOCKED IN!

No allowed to disconnect for any reason, must screenshot verified list of mercs before game starts. Have the server lock the player mercs when matches are readied up so when they disconnect they’re not allowed to bring a different three. :eek:

The main mode of play is Stopwatch. That means that being able to defend and attack with the same set of three mercs is part of the required skillset.

Making the option available to change is reducing that challenge and it’s also forcing the players who are able to make inventive use of their merc combination to reconsider the whole thing halfway during the match. They really shouldn’t have to.

I personally really hope that in matchmaking you select one merc at the start of a match and play out the whole match with that one merc. Doubt it would happen but hey…

Agreed. I would like that as well. However, that would also give the team as a whole less possibility to adapt and encourage everyone to pick vanilla classes.

So the locked three mercs seems like the ideal compromise.

I would want to see more mercs and more diversity between similar mercs before they try this.

Maybe it would be better if we tell them we want longer timers and less mercs ingame. Regarding the past, they would lower the timers and increase the mercs in game. They like to do the opposite we would like to see ingame :tongue:

Isn’t the whole idea of this to give it the Dota-like meta of picking and banning mercs? I’m talking about when the game is finished.

You would hope so (at least I do) however, not looking like most other people agree >.<
Personally, I think it would add so much more to the game. Thats just me though.
