sv_maxRate ?

(skybuck) #1

Hi,

What does sv_maxRate really mean ?

Is it the maximum rate of the server ?
( That’s what I would expect… the server can easily figure out how much bandwidth to give each player. rate divided by clients )

But the weird thing is on the internet people say maxRate is how much bandwidth each client can get ?

I hope all those people are correct… because of they aren’t then this is ofcourse a very serious mistake ?!

Can somebody please check with id software and post on this thread what sv_maxRate reallllllly means

Just a double check  you never know

Bye,
Skybuck.

It’s the maximum rate for each player !
If a player have set his rate to 10.000 he will only get what ever the servers maxrate is set to.

How you know that for sure ?

So what’s this mean? Each player should set his sv_maxrate to 10. OR does it mean if someone sets it to 100 they’ll get an unfair advantage over other players?

highboy is right.

eg

server sv_maxrate 10000
player rate 10000 => bandwidth used = 10.000 for that particular player

server sv_maxrate 10000

player rate 9000 => bandwidth used = 9.000 for that particular player

server sv_maxrate 10000
player rate 12000 => bandwidth used = 10.000 for that particular player

min (sv_maxrate,rate) is the rate that player gets. It’s also limited to 25.000. Check planetwolfenstein.com admin forum, there is a thread about that now i believe.

For downloads there is a separate serverratevar.
