Super Powered Bullets?

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #1

First Off i’d like to say i have had Brink preordered since last January and i think it will be the best game ever!!

But, I have one concern, i’ve looked places and cannot find the answer.

Will Brink have an ability that increases weapon damage? Being an avid Battlefield: BC2 player i have to say how much i despise ‘Magnum ammo’ or stopping power in the COD series. It ruins the game. Being instant killed in like 2 bullets ruins the game for me on BFBC2 sometimes.

I had not used Magnum ammo until last week cause i got so annoyed at it. Needless to say i was cutting down 3 or 4 guys at a time which i never would of been able to do otherwise.

Will Brink have anything like this? I’m thinking not cause SD seem determined in making it very well balanced.

Yes, engineers will be able to buff your weapon.

You’re making a weird point though, why would you worry about increased weapon damage and not base weapon damage when concerned about game balance?

Yes. Engineers can boost the damage f weapons. unlike mgm ammo in BC2, this is not simply a perk you choose and always have - it has to be administered by an Engineer. Also, if you respawn the buff disappears and needs to be reapplied.

Well most games have acceptable balanced weapons. Like bfbc2 some weapons are more powerful than others but for different situations some weapons will be a better use ( if that makes sense?) .But what ruins that balance is things like magnum ammo, it erases the some of the skill required to win a firefight and the more spray and pray players win over the accurate ones unfairly Regardless.

I don’t know if any of that made sense to you.

Rubbish. If you headshot in BC2 with any weapon you’ll kill them in just one burst. Same will go for Brink in terms of if you are accurate enough it doesn’t matter about buffs. Buffs only come into play when firing quickly without aiming such as accidentally at the legs/torso.

I don’t use magnum ammo in BC2 and there’s heaps of times I’ve one bullet killed from across the other side of the map (several hundred metres away) with nothing but the red dot scope. My aim/lag’s usually too crap to pull it off often but it does happen

I’ve killed at distance with no magnum ammo in BFBC2, and I’ve been pwned while using it and spraying and praying. I have never found it to be an unbalancing perk.

In addition to Engineers buffing your gun, the soldier can also hand out armor piercing ammo, I am not sure if this ammo increases damage or decreases an armor mod.

(Linsolv) #7

If they did it in any way that makes sense, then they would have set it up to ignore some amount of armor (preferably a flat amount, it just feels more realistic) not do more damage. Apparently one of the classes can give out flak jackets. I think. I dunno exactly.

(MF Maou) #8

What are you talking about?

(Jess Alon) #9

Speaking of flak jackets. What is the damage reduction in the flak jacket buff? And Perk?

Edit: And can they stack?

(Cankor) #10

If you look at the percentage increase for Magnum ammo in BC2 you’ll see it’s not as significant as you make it out to be. I always went for the increased health (body armor?) or accuracy over the magnum ammo and just picked a weapon that did more base damage. Might take one extra bullet to kill a guy but those times when I survived with just a bit of health instead of dying made up for it, and the extra bullet was easier with the increased accuracy.

(tokamak) #11

Same goes for stopping power in COD. What do you think, that players just don’t pick it out of charity? You can go for increased damage but it comes at the cost of having other perks. And as for Brink, increased damage is merely a reward for having tight teamplay.

(Cankor) #12

Anyway, in addition to buffed weapons, there is increased damage from ammo you get from the Soldier (such as armor piercing).

I suspect armor piercing ammo ignores whatever amount of damage would otherwise have been reduced by Kevlar plates.

(RAAAAAAAAAAGE) #13

Well what i described about magnum ammo is from personal experience. I didn’t mean to make it out to be a God like thunder bullet or anything. But it annoys me when i can’t get to cover 6 inches away from me cause a guy with magnum ammo has killed me extremely fast. But maybe its a mix of lag and magnum ammo. And i like the way the Brink developers have implemented it, im glad its not a constant perk but a buff given by engineers.

(CVIChEK) #14

Engies buff your guns damage, but medics can buff your health so it balances out.
Soldiers also give out piercing ammo, but I think that’s only better at destroying kevlar plates

Yes, it sounds as if it just guarantees you default damage on everyone. If a player wants amped damage they go for a weapon buff.

As for Kevlar Armour if it has no effect on headshots, its not that much of a big deal - in a good way though.

edit: what CVIChEK said

What I said. I heard somewhere (really reliable source, as you can tell) someone mentioned that in one of the recent trailers there was a hint that one of the classes, I believe it was soldier, could hand out armor.

I don’t actually know if it’s true, but the idea of “armor piercing bullets” makes no sense if there’s no armor, and we haven’t seen any actual armor perks to speak of.

(Nex) #17

Also, engineers can make .50 cal nests and rape whole battlefield

(Wraith) #18

Yes the whole battlefield aka there limited field of fire.

(Cankor) #19

Not to mention the fact that you’re a sitting duck while you’re amnning one (but I did see some with shields, which would help).

I figured the guy was being sarcastic (benifit of the doubt kind of thing).

There is armor smarty pants. Armor buffs and armor perks. Flak jacket.
