Suggestions for 1.3 patch in ET

(SCDS_reyalP) #21

Well if etmain doesn’t do this, then it can’t be completely an engine thing (or it is in an engine function that et doesn’t use, but ETF does, I suppose). It could be one of the things the ETPro does a binary patch on the server executable for. In which case they might be able to talk the etpro team into passing that fix along…

the day I see another et patch is the day i’ll be a millionair crosses fingers

(Oxygen - o2) #23

*gives money to fusen

(Sauron|EFG) #24

They can call it something else then, like ETTV…

They have enough of the engine to build the dedicated server (which they’ve done for ETTV), so basically ETTV + bugfixes = serverside patch

(Oxygen - o2) #25

hmmm

dont you think activision would see through this?

and dosnt fixing the engine mean compiling the exe, which would screw versions up for everybody

Ok well… there IS a person named Nail… so 100% of the people named Nail on this forum is coincidentally “Nail”… so when you said 0% of people named nail should shut the hell up, you were in fact talking to nobody, including Nail… :bored:

(bacon) #27

I’d LOVE to see you explain this. If you have no clue what you’re talking about, DON’T POST!

(Nail) #28

methinks the concept of patches and mods eludes our gassy little poster

(Oxygen - o2) #29

are you seriously that stupid?

lets go all in one quick reply, ready go!

0% of people called nail are right

that means the other 100% of people called nail are WRONG

this would mean go WAAAAYY back to being about 8 years old and ask for more maths homework

ok, bacon, you taste nice, but boy do you prove a pretty good point, i guess if we dont know something we shouldnt ask, you gona tell your kids that? (god forbid) so we will all be stupid]

just something to keep in mind, anyway

there can be only 1 et.exe in the folder, so something needs to change like the name, which wouldnt be a bad thing, but wouldnt that make other modders lives a bit harder working between bani’s code and the origonal code, oh wait, i forgot, nobody cares about other mods

ok, im almost at the good part of Evanessence - My imortal (its a song) so i get really hyped now, here goes:

your sticking up for pork chops and glarry, i dont hate glarry, so ill let that slip, however bacon sticks like a greasy bacon strip, so since i proved them both wrong, your wrong, and im right

wow, just in time for my song to finish and me to do something worth doing!

Ummmm…other games have patches released after the source sdk is released and you don’t see anybody there crying. Your one et.exe point is, well, ill-informed. A patch will overwrite the exe and hence, only 1 et.exe will exist. It’s funny how simple logic escapes you.
BTW, your attempts at insults were weak. Quoting songs from a teen-bopper band…

(Nail) #31

oxygen, the only thing you’ve proved is what a complete ass you are

(Erus Nauction) #32

can’t we just jump to the version 999 patch because ET is on the way out. why patch a dieing game? like others said, why patch a free game.

(Oxygen - o2) #33

because the free game is fun!

(amazinglarry) #34

oof

(Jaquboss) #35

Hmm , new patch will be stupid , because it will most probably broke all mods …
I prefer engine sourcecode , and someone who doesnt have nick " Bani " ( nothing agains him , but that will be very corporated with ETPro ) , and add all great features to engine…

(no_shad) #36

I have a feeling the full et source will be released when the q3 engine goes gpl.

(Nail) #37

I thought so too, but I’ve been told I’m fulla crap, not by anybody who would actually know, but I guess some ppl know more than SD, ID and Activision

(bacon) #38

I don’t see the logic in that. Just because it’s free and based off the Q3 engine doesn’t mean it’ll go open-source. Mods are free and hardly any go open-source…

(EB) #39

I heard it was going open source, although I don’t remember where, maybe I was dreaming about ET in my sleep…hehe. Either way, I remember no specific date being set.

– I will go looking for it…

Dated on December 31,2004

John Carmack of ID Software:
Quake 3 Source
I intended to release the Q3 source under the GPL by the end of 2004, but we had another large technology licensing deal go through, and it would be poor form to make the source public a few months after a company paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for full rights to it. True, being public under the GPL isn’t the same as having a royalty free license without the need to disclose the source, but I’m pretty sure there would be some hard feelings.
Previous source code releases were held up until the last commercial license of the technology shipped, but with the evolving nature of game engines today, it is a lot less clear. There are still bits of early Quake code in Half Life 2, and the remaining licensees of Q3 technology intend to continue their internal developments along similar lines, so there probably won’t be nearly as sharp a cutoff as before. I am still committed to making as much source public as I can, and I won’t wait until the titles from the latest deal have actually shipped, but it is still going to be a little while before I feel comfortable doing the release.
