Suggestion: Street Art contest

(tokamak) #1

I’ve just been watching ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’ made by Banksy, highly recommendable.

It really sparked a love for street art again which turned into an idea to engage the community and promote this game further.

Offer players a chance to get their own designs integrated into the graffiti decals of the map through a competition. Give the specifics for the format of the design and to which background(s) it will be applied and let the community (and everyone outside it) submit with whatever art they’ve come up with.

Then award the top 5 or 3 or whatever (maybe depending on the quality of the entries) with a price and the fame of having your graffiti featured in the stock maps.

It’s great advertising as on top of the usual interest generated by competitions, magazines will likely write a bulletin about it and the end result will be that the maps will be a tad more personal.

It’s also completely in line with the spirit of parkour and the underground.

Nice idea, but I can’t win so I’ll just be very jealeous of whoever does win.

Don’t say that, you don’t even have to be graphically skilled, interesting phrases or even poetry should be able to make the cut provided you’ve rendered them into a picture yourself and it isn’t plagiarism either.

Hmm, interesting phrases sounds interesting

Love this idea.

Top Suggestion, +1

Really nice idea tbh, its really strong community integration. I know I felt gratified for getting an autorun with my name on it in the retail disc of et:qw due to being a beta tester, but it would be truly awesome to have something I wrote/created/drew on the walls of Brink.

(dommafia) #8

Huh??? Curious

(maxtalent) #9

That sounds like a really cool idea

Crysis 2 already did this a couple months back, although theirs was with names/online handles. Do you think the fanbase there would be shouting COPYCATS if SD/Bethesda did it? Of course would just be touche since Crytek claimed Crysis 2 MP is parkour+guns

(tokamak) #11

Cool I had no idea Crysis did something similar. This is cooler though, here you would be asked to make your own art instead of just tweeting your name and win the draw. We’re talking street art here, not just hastily done tags.

(DarkangelUK) #12

Yes… I know exactly what you meant… by reading your 1st post. It’s still close enough to Crysis 2’s home to have them shouting copycat and “we did that 1st” while they totally ignore the obvious differences. I find PR stunts work better when they’re unique and don’t fall under the ‘oh yeah, remember when this company did that?’ blanket, and certainly so close together.

Where did you see the movie? It is not in movie theatres near me and I have to wait for the dvd

(tokamak) #14

Saw it on a festival. Stomach achingly hilarious.

@DAUK, it’s not meant as a ‘stunt’ to woo everyone with originality in the same way any other competition is doing that.

(DarkangelUK) #15

Doesn’t matter what it’s meant as, that’s how it’ll be viewed… while probably inadvertently giving Crysis 2 some free advertising when everyone starts shouting about how they did it too.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great idea… problem is, I thought it was a great idea when they did it as well, and would rather they went with the method you suggested.

(Loffy) #16

I guess what Zhou’s saying is that his cfg is on the retail disc. Start ETQW, pull down console menu and enter “exec zho” then TAB to get full file name. (Assuming that his cfg file was named “zhou.cfg” or similar.) Then hit ENTER to exec that particular cfg.

(Zhou Yu) #17

Yeah, it was 1am when I wrote that sentence and it still stinks.

Basically, what Loffy said, at some point towards the end of the et:qw closed beta some of the testers got asked for their .cfg files to put on the disk so people could have a bunch of presets ready to go.

(tokamak) #18

That’s fine, in a way having a whole controversy over it only generates more interest. Just because another game did it is no reason not to do it, especially if you can do it better.

(DarkangelUK) #19

Yes it is.

Care to elaborate?
