Crysis 2 literally got done with the same marketing ploy a couple months ago, so yes there is reason not to do the same thing so close to when a rival game dev did it. And purposely going for the controversial factor to drum up attention is just sad.
Suggestion: Street Art contest
In all honesty, I’d heard nothing about the crysis 2 marketing ploy before reading this thread. In my opinion at least, the fact that crysis 2 did something similar doesn’t really diminish its potential for brink, unless you are of a specific frame of mind.
Honestly, if Brink ran a competition for art assets, I don’t think most applicants would give a toss if Crysis 2 had done it first ^^.
It doesn’t take most, just the loud ones (works on here too cough). But yeah, I do like the idea… guess it’s up to whether Bethesda PR like it though.
Strongly disagree.

ah ok, i always thought all those cfg’s were from devs.
Well any PR person that uses another companies marketing stunt to promote their product certainly aint a very good PR person. Trying to think of any circumstance where a game company has used another’s marketing ploy for their product… not surprisingly, i’m struggling.
Other developers doing the same thing never stopped companies from hosting fan art contests. I don’t hear anyone complain about that.
