I know that the backpacks were originally slated to vary from class to class as a means of quickly distinguishing what class someone was, but seeing as that didn’t get implemented, I honestly can’t think of a reason not to remove them entirely. They sometimes jar dramatically with someone’s appearance (especially for Security) and don’t seem to serve any useful function. It’s a shame that a game with so much great customization has much of it blocked from behind by the bulky packs…
Suggestion: Remove Backpacks
I don’t mind them too much but I’d like an option to equip them or not as just another piece of customization. I’d probably leave it on for my engy and my medic but off for my operative (he’d just steal teh bag that goes with the disguise anyway ~_^)
I really like that idea. Look at the earliest screenshots, those silhouettes look far more distinct simply because they don’t have that generic backpack tying them al together. Combine this with that atrocious orange hue and you get a game that looks much nicer.
Whaaaat? I’ll ****-slap you if you try to take my back pack. Its got all my dru… I mean, medical supplies in it!
I support the OP.
Perhaps our characters will finally be able to jump higher too.

Stop carrying around bricks in your backpack
Where are we going to keep our ammo and 2nd gun if we don’t have a backpack :o
Yeah, I’d rather they not be there, kinda takes away from the uniqueness of each character.
Sooooooo glad nobody can easily distinguish what class I am. That would be so lame. Why penalize someone with a target on their back for playing? Makes no sense. Do you think a High Ranking Miltary personal who goes out into the field is gonna advertise that fact?
“Oh, get your hands down. Do not salute me. There are gaddamn snipers all around this area who love to grease an officer.”
I would just like the option to switch backpacks off in my view. They look ugly and I don’t need them to distinguish friend from foe. What’s the point of all the character customization if they slap a big ugly backpack all over it?

Same place Max does!
Computer: Error: Cannot remove inventory. Where do you keep your personal items?
Max: That’s none of your damn business, computer!

[/QUOTE]Man it’s so obvious you have never played an SD game before Brink. Distinguishing the classes was a critical part of the strategy. This is another example of Brink taking a step backwards from games that are over 10 years old like W:ET.
How is it not a bad thing?
I don’t know whether to kill the guy on the left or the guy on the right, because I’m unable to know what classes they are. I’m left with a 50% chance of killing the right guy and that could cost my team the match. That’s perfectly acceptable to you??
It is a bad thing. You try any of the two ET games and you will frigging love it. In all the threads, all the posts in which you’re arguing with ET players you end up making the same argument which goes like this: “I don’t know W:ET or ETQW therefore Brink is better”.
^ Nope. I don’t need you knowing right away what class I am, that way I can send you back to redeploy while you are trying to figure it out. Points to Carb-9.<------- Here’s my enemy class problem solver.
Which such hidden information the game is random and the team that happens to be lucky in their right targets will win.
Anyway, this thread is about looks, not gameplay.
I guess that’s how the game would look without backpacks and that frigging orange hue.
