As some of you may know I have been having some problems with sound files being played back all stuttery in ET. This is a major annoyance as when the sound file stutters, so does the framerate. if you are in a one on one and you get a stutter you invariably lose the duel … well that’s my excuse anyway.
I tried looking at:
- ET config (mem allocation etc)
- Drivers
- Firewalls
- Antivirus
- BIOS
etc
Minor improvements were had when tweaking the above but more recently I have found a way to almost completely eliminate the problem
PCI Latency
Using the tools below I tweaked the pci latency settings of some devices and now I get vurtually no stutter at all. Even when I do get a small stutter it is barely noticeable.
The added bonus is that sounds are much clearer now , HDD loading times have increased , no more pops or crackles in games and I can finally enjoy ET again
Basically I
- Lowered the latency of the gfx card
- Lowered the latency of the RAID controller
- Upped the latency of the audigy card to max (248)

Both pretty much do the same thing but I had problems with the PCI Latency tool saving settings so I shelled out the 10 dollars for the uncrippled version of DoubleDawg … well worth it for me …
P.S I don’t know if this applies to other sounds cards, or whether it is purely a Creative problem but the point is that I won’t have to do the stu …stu …stu … stutter rap anymore
