Struggling to set up an ETPRO server!

(Rayzer88) #1

Hi all, hope someone can help me! Me and a few friends have started playing ET again after about 10 years away an i’m looking to set up a dedicated ETPro server.

I should say, i’d never set up a server when we played years ago so all this was alien to me anyway

I’ve been on countless websites, looked at PDF files etc but i just can’t seem to get the server to show on the Internet list. I can connect to it locally though

I’m trying to run the server on my laptop and connect to play through my desktop. I opened loads of ports earlier (and have since shut them since it wasn’t working)

This is what shows in the ET Console when i open etded.exe

And this is what is in the Target line for etded.exe

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etded.exe” +set fs_game etpro +set net_port 27965 +set dedicated 2 +set sv_punkbuster 1 +set com_hunkmegs 96 +set com_zoneMegs 32 +set fs_homepath 27965 +exec server.cfg

I’m not really concerned by gametype settings etc yet, i can fiddle with that once i know the server is live

Thank you SO much in advance for any bits of help you can give me…been tearing my hair out for close to 2 days now!!

(stealth6) #2

Did you forward your ports in your router?

(Rayzer88) #3

yea, firstly I opened a load that were recommended for ET and it wouldnt work so I deleted all those rules and atm i’m trying to do it specifically.

With mine I need to set a service like below

Then set firewall rules as below

although I realise the above must be incorrect as its not working haha
I tried allowing the incoming one for port 27965 which is the port ive set for the server.

Inbound service #2 was originally set (Lan server IP adress) to 192.168.0.7 (the server laptop) which didn’t work, so I changed it to my external ip address which didnt work either haha

Sorry i’m a complete noob!!

(stealth6) #4

Do you have a manual for that router?

Normally when you set up a port forward you need to specify the LAN IP address.
For the firewall thing going on a limb here I’d say you need to fill in your local IP address in both outbound & inbound (192.168.0.7), but I have no idea what you’d need to fill in under WAN servers or users. At the bottom it says the default is any so try to set it to default?

I don’t see anything odd in your ET log & since you say it works on LAN I think it’s probably something router related.

(Rayzer88) #5

Ive set up another load of ports recommended for ET (27950, 27952, 27960, 27961 and 27965)

Temporarily for ease of use i’ve set both TCP/UDP and allowed for any user outbound.
Inbound i’ve set all ports open for 192.168.0.7 which is the server laptop.

The server stopped showing up in the local list but I could connect directly to the ip 192.168.0.1:27965 so I changed the port back to 27960 and it showed up in the local list again, still nothing on the internet list though.

I don’t know if it makes any difference but its named Adam’s Test Server and on the local list its shown as Adam’s Test Server [UDP]

This is what my firewall rules currently show

I’ve had to open ports for things in the past but this has got me stumped! Thanks very much for your help so far

(Rayzer88) #6

Just noticed as I sent that, that i’d set 27960 to block inbound, i’ve changed that and still no joy.

As its showing locally it must be close, going to have a look through some more router settings now

(Crytiqal) #7

AFAIK It won’t show your server on the Internet list if you search through it via your own LAN, also etpro won’t show up if the server is empty?

(Micha) #8

Example of my etpro startup line:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territorysrv\WOLFDED.exe” +set fs_game etpro +set dedicated 2 +set net_ip 192.168.178.23 +set net_port 27962 +fs_basepath C:\Program Files (x86)\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territorysrv +set sv_maxclients 40 +set com_hunkmegs 128 +set net_port_extra 27961 +exec server.cfg

I set in my router that I always want the ip 192.168.178.23 for my pc. Then I opened the port 27962 for 192.168.178.23.
You must be sure to use a different one then the one you play with (default game port 27960).
Not sure about your router but the ip seems to be wrong. You need to open the port for your lan ip which is most of the time 192.168.x.x

Also note: Wolfenstein ET servers wont show up if noone is on there. So you will not find it in the server list. be sure to try /connect yourinternetip:youropenport
example: /connect 78.6.240.220:27965

(Rayzer88) #9

Ahh, i didnt know it wouldnt show up if it was empty! One of my friends is going to see if they can join now.

I think the IP is right, the outbound are set to all, but in the bottom section of the picture, they are all set to the ip address 192.168.0.7 which is the IP address of the laptop im trying to run the server from

one thing i did notice, i saw a pic of someones working server and it had an internet IP address.

mine shows:

Opening IP socket: localhost:27960
Hostname: DIT02022015
IP: 192.168.0.13

but the one i saw had another line saying IP: Intenet ip

(Micha) #10

Depends what your router shows. My shows this:
Computer Protocol Port
192.168.1.11 All 27960-27962

(Rayzer88) #11

Quick update, friend wasn’t able to see it, however he was able to connect via the IP address which is good?

So it could just be because it’s empty that it’s not showing on the master list then, and I assume dropping a bot in there would fix that

(Rayzer88) #12

Yea I see, mine shows as it does in this image

The bottom box shows that I’ve opened the ports for 192.168.0.7

(Micha) #13

Everything is alright then. How I said. Server will not show up if it’s empty. That’s one of the reason why people drop bots on mods which support them.

(Rayzer88) #14

Brilliant, thanks for your help everyone, I really appreciate it
