if he enjoys bringing conversions to us rather than making independent work then let it be. and as you se many players/server owners appreciate his work. i’d be happy to see his cod map released as i’m interested how will it look like. here wont ever be chaos because of porting creations of one game to another. this is not real life and street gangs or mafia etc xD. it’s a decades long tradition to do this amongst hobby-content-creators, and so far no or extremely rare cases are known when legal process has been started against these kind of ppl/activities. and i’m pretty sure he is not interested in stealing your work so be calm ;))

come on, you all rant like he is making money out of all this. he is just trying to bring something fresh to ET. As a mapper, i will “steal” other peoples work and modify it but i will give a big credit to them (something like Map by This Guy, remixed by Myself). its a free game and i dontcare about COD4, dont you worry, they have made lot of money out of their game.
This map is one the best looking realeased lately. Period. I enjoy having a walk in it. Good job

Imo, he is not bringing anything new to ET, he is just bringing original stuff from other games to ET world. If he wants to bring something new to ET, he should make a map by his own. And i am one of those people who is not amazed about this map, but that’s just me. It’s not about the money all the time like i said… :rolleyes:

lol, i am not worried about he stealing any of our (S&M) work. I just want him to try to make something on his own and respect the rights. :slight_smile:

The respect is the thing. You have to respect other ppls work. You have to respect your rights and rules. We are maybe little worried that there will be another “wave” of mods of maps. We love to see custom maps, but we hate to see ported maps or editions made by others, if it is without permission.

Guys, the Italy map is not just a port of the CS map.

It’s more than that. It adds elements like the Jeep that goes trough the streets, captureable flags, constructible ramps, objectives and more. Also technical stuff that you might not see like penumbra shadows, radiosity (also known as bouncing), light flares etc.

I don’t think that’s stealing. The CS or COD4 publishers already earned their money. There is no point about that. I guess there is no person who will NOT buy CS or COD4 just because Indy released two ports for W:ET. IMHO it’s more like a tribute to the level designers of the original maps.

It is stealing, i wish i had the CS eula and the COD4 eula, but i dont have it so i could post here all the things he broke in the eula. It’s not about the money… I have said it about 3 times.

Pegazus, Wolfenstein Enemy Territory itself is nearly a Software license agreement violation. It used a lot of textures & models from Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Even Fuel Dump is a port of the RtCW single player map Forest! You don’t believe me? Download this RtCW MP port of the map: http://returntocastlewolfenstein.filefront.com/file/Blitzkrieg_Forest;1544

We also heard that we are not allowed to use any additional textures from RtCW and then later that it’s the same license. So something is wrong here… also W:ET isn’t based on QuakeIO OpenSource id Tech 3 Engine. It was released for free due to some unfortunate failure in the SP part (from what I remember). W:ET lives because the community released new maps & mods for it all the time and of course because it’s free. Not all free QuakeIO games are that successful. Examples are Urban Terror (http://www.moddb.com/mods/urban-terror/) or the Quake III Arena reconstruction OpenArena (http://www.moddb.com/games/openarena). Of course CS and COD4 are not royalty free, but look how many “mp_beach” or “Wake Island” clones and conversion there are.

You are wrong actualy, W:ET was suppouse to be an expansion pack of RCTW, so it has everyright to use RCTW models, because if i remember right ID gave all the rights to SD to work on it. We are not allowed to use those, because we are not Splashdamage

I stay clear on my idea, that if you do something against the rights, you should be punished. And as i said, RCTW is like big brother to ET and ET is it’s small brother, i hope you understand what i mean.

as i understand that you are ok with ripping then i would be so cheesy and wont respect EULA or the people who worked on it and I would take all COD maps, put them into ET or any other game, release it as a mod credit, COD team and live happily ever after, now does this sound ok to you?

Hardly. W:ET is an id Software property. As the developer we used RTCW assets with their permission. That’s our privilege as a developer.

As a consumer, using textures and other assets from other games is almost always against that game’s EULA. Saying, “Oh, well, that game made enough money for the developer.” is no justification.

I suggest taking any further EULA discussions to a new thread. I’m leaving the existing discussion in this thread, but that should be the end of it in here.

Sorry to disappoint but those waypoints are for FritzBot ET 0.70c not Omnibot 0.7.

(And no FritzBot ET does not work with Jaymod, FritzBot ET is a standalone mod)

i think i just solved this mystery. today i checked my mapping email, and i’ve got one question from bmc clan, according to map source… it’s a czech republic clan, so i guess italyCZ means italyCZECH :wink: i thought it will be condition zero or something like that.

Hy guys,

At first I would like to thanks to Indy for his reply and just for info ItalyCZ beta it is running on BMC server. BMC is not actually a clan, it´s just bunch of friens who operate this server for own fun.

Streets of italy which is running on BMC server is some old version, where we try to change some textures … this were our first steps in “modding” … and we did it because we want to differentiate our server from the others.

This map is now our first try to modyfy map/bsp file. In future I will send some info about progres and also the new name of map.

You´re right, I think we didn´t ask when we did modifications of textures … this is our fault and I´m sorry about it.

… actualy I didn´t do these modifications. I started to modify this map month ago, and as IndyJones writed here, I had wrote him an email… The map I´m moddifiing is not released yet … and I am not sure that will be ever released.

Now I´m not sure whom I have to ask for permission… I though that I have to ask Indy.
