Strange Lags

(useless) #1

Take a look at this:

This is what my lagometer shows me.
Can anyone tell me what it means and how i can fix it? I tried a_lot of different net settings, but it always keeps lagging. Btw. my connection: ADSL (Fastpath), and i usually have pings between 25 and 40 on servers in my contry. The strange thing is: ONLY ET laggs like this… Q3A+RTCW Classic never do this.
Please help.

The bottom bar shows Server Side lag… and that is somthing you cannot control. However the top bar shows clientside lag. Client side lag can be effected by things outside your control also. It looks pretty normal to me. Try giong on different servers and see how your lagometer responds. A good “Non laggy” server is Cains Lair… try it there.

other way around isnt it? top yellow = server stuff

bottom green = slowness of packets to arrive
bottom red = dropped/missing packets

all you can really do is play with these settings, play on different servers, find a new isp.

/cl_maxpackets 30
/rate 18000

find out what your max upstream is and set your rate to that. my isp’s max upstream is 20K so i use 18 to be safe…

Rate is downstream. maxpackets is upstream. They are in different units. The rate you get is the minimum of your rate setting and the server maxrate setting.

Spikes like that are most likely not related to your config. If your system is swapping to disk, that can cause spikes in the lagometer. PB might also cause this on low spec systems.

If kazaa or something like that is running on your connection, that can give you spikes.

You can try using tracert and ping to the servers and see if you are losing packets there. If you are losing packets, make sure cl_packetdup is 1

My blue line never has any problems, its just my green line. They are separated into bars, and are not too tall.

I usually get 10-20 fps…
