Strange Glitch in Enemy Territory

(gadders) #1

Just started playing the full ET online, and I’ve noticed a strange glitch. I don’t seem to be able to move properly. When ever my character moves to a new spot, it’s like gravity or some invisible force pushes him back again. Even if I let go of the mouse totally, he won’t stay in one spot.

Anyone seen anything similar or have any ideas?

Thanks,

Gadders.

lag, have u just tried one server?

…but I don’t think it’s lag. If I run to one spot and then let go of the mouse and keyboard after I get there, my character still starts to “drift” out of position. I’ve tried mucking around with mouse settings but that seemed to have no effect either…

so you move to a position, and then you get jerked back to your original position?

Dont know if you’ve tried this, but type /rate 25000 in the console

I’ll give that a try tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

Thanks,

It sounds a lot like lag to me, it also happens when a server has crashed as the client is not being sent any more packets so it tries to predict but then gets pulled back because it hasn’t actually received or sent any more information.

Do players around you update normally?
Have you tried connecting to an empty server to see if you could move there?

Try a fresh reinstall in a clean folder with no old config files, and make sure your connection settings match your connection. If all else fails, bring down the console (` or ~) and type /rate and hit enter. Your rate should be set to a value of several thousand. If it’s set to 0 or 1 something has broken, which you can fix by going into the options menu and cycling through the connection settings options until you find the one which matches your connection. This will reset your rate to the correct value.

I’ll try a bunch of servers and see what happens. I notice that this didn’t happen when running a non-dedicated server on my machine, so it could be lag, but it just “felt” different to the lag I see in games like Counterstrike.

Thanks again,

Gadders.

It was lag, and a re-install fixed it. However, I join a server with a low lag of 40-50, and once I’m in the game it jumps up to 300+. I’m on ADSL, and have never had this with CStrike, so I’m at a bit of a loss.

Thanks for the help with the other issues.

Eh… what are your computer’s stats. This could be related in some way to your hardware… or it could be that the server is soooo far geographically from u that it laggs bad. Or it could just be first release bugs… :???:

This might sound obvious but ill say it anyway, have you picked the right option in-game for your connection.
