Strange errors, when adding "too much" custom maps

Yesterday i tried to run 23 custom maps divided in 9 campaigns on our linux server. The first map loads without problems and i could play till the end. At the second map, the map loads, the progressbar fills, then a short pause … reload and this infinitely …

To discover which map causes this strange behavior, i hosted a local server under windows with the standard configs (no campaign, only single-map objective). Started with one map and added one after another. But the error shows in many map combinations on map change. Once with less, once with more maps. Everytime when i change to a second map per referee menu.

First i see the following error:

Then i add more maps and ET crashes completely with this error:

“ET.exe causes an error and will be shut down. Please restart the program”

The “never ending map loading” error happened only once with the windows server.

What is causing such strange errors? Is there a limit how many custom maps i can store in my etmain directory?

Probably (although it’s more likely number of maps total, not custom maps specifically). RTCW / OSP had a similar problem, when you reached a certain number the server crashed. But the actual “number” was a bit vague and seemed to be different for different servers and map combinations. I’d therefore assume it was a system resource issue, but I never did find the solution.

As mentioned in another thread, the limit of maps you can add to a custom campaign is 10 (from my experience). Your error didn’t link in, so maybe you could just add the text and we can check it out further?

As i mentioned in my post, this error-report is from “no campaign, only single-map objective”.

The limit of 10 maps per camapaign is acceptable, i think.

But a limit of custom maps in the etmain directory is sinewy.
Always stop the server, move the pk3-files and restart the server, when i would like to play a map which is not loaded.

Or is there a command to reload the pk3-files while the server is running?

I’ve gotten that game code error also when trying to devmap a normal map without doing “g_gametype 2”.
