strafe jumping

hey im not great at strafe jumping so i was wondering if any of you can help me. :???:

I’ll tell you what i can on criclejumping and consecutive strafing on slopes and how to achieve maximum acceleration. It may be called strafe jumping, but mouse movement is jsut as important. Practice it on the slope on goldrush, or the larger version on LNA trickjump map.

The Circlejump: I’ll try and explain how to do this and also how to lead your mouse movement into the 2nd jump. Start with your desired jump destination slighty ahead and to the left of you so it’s at a 90degree angle from the way you’re facing. Move forward, and as you come in line with the jump destination, press and hold sprint+ left strafe and at the same time, swing your mouse round to face it, this increases your ground speed before take off by about 40ups, as you line up with your JD, press jump (don’t hold). As you’re in the air, keep your mouse moving to the left until it’s at a 20degree angle from the direction you’re moving (0 degress is the direction you’re moivng in). As you reach the peak height on the arc of your jump, move the mouse left another 10 degrees so you’re at 30degress… between 20 and 30 is the air accell angle. A split second before you land, tap jump and switch to right strafe and swing your mouse right in a sweeping motion. The mouse should pass by the direction you’re moving as your feet touch the ground. Now do the opposite you just did with the mouse angles. goto 20degress, switch to 30 at peak etc… and repeat. As you gather speed with each consecutive jump, increase the mouse angle degrees.

Spend a few hours on gamma jump and youll be able to strafe jump anything in ET.

(Helljumper) #5

ok. thanks alot.

nb. it helps if you have a constant 125 or 76 fps - there’s detailed techy explanations for this, but the summary is that at specific (not necessarily higher) FPS rounding errors in the code lead to jumps being higher/longer.

With the next version (or current testbugfix) of ETPro, your fps will be irrelevant if the server has set “b_fixedphysics 1”.

yeah in gamma i can get to the first but not the second i hit the side of the wall :banghead:

yeah in gamma i can get to the first but not the second i hit the side of the wall

Same here, but I bet my 50fps on Gammajump have something to do with it. What mid-jump speed do I need for the second jump? ETPro Speedometer shows all orange. Do I need red peaks or something?

I think in terms of Q3 tricking, i think the same values should employed with ET tricking… pmove_fixed 1. that means every person is on a level playing field so it doesnt matter if you have a poor or a great PC, everyones jump distances are the same. The only thing that sets people apart now is pure skill and technique. I also use nofatigue… sick of waiting on the sprint bar charging when i keep trying a new jump.

Another thing that comes up, in a discussion about tric jumping, is computer specs. I have a Pentium 4, 2,0 Ghz. Videocard is Geforce3 64 Mb Ti500. I get a stable 76, sometimes stable 125 but never 333.

PC specs can play a huge part in it. Allong with your settings and ping.

(Helljumper) #12

i herd if you put your jump key to mouse 2 its easyer

(DarkangelUK) #13

That’s just preference… i use space to jump and mouse2 for sprint when tricking

(Helljumper) #14

ok i will try that.
