Still going with Brink...

(SnipingMeerkat) #1

I know that there’s a million topics but I’m still playing it. I got Just Cause 2 yesterday, fantastic game, but I’m still switching between the two. The DLC is on the horizon and I’m gonna grap it. I’m just wondering NOW, how many people are still playing Brink. Also what is the thing your most looking forward to in the DLC, me… The outfits.

What would you like to see in future DLC’s? Me more guns like the AK and Snipers and more outfits.

(SinDonor) #2

I am more interested in all of the tweaks. New levels, guns, etc is nice, but I’m looking forward to the changes they’ve made to the guts of the game.

I am REALLY looking forward to the enhancements they’ve made to the heavy weapons! The new Hjammerdein sounds like a BEAST!

I like all the content SD is offering in the first DLC (raising the level cap, new maps, abilities, weapon attachments, and outfits) and I’d like to see more of all of that in future DLCs. My only concern is that new maps will be exclusive to the DLC which would potentially fracture Brink’s player base.

I am still playing, though I have admittedly slowed down my pace of play waiting for the DLC to be released. However, I played my first public freeplay match in more than two weeks just this morning, to begin getting back into the swing of things.

It wont fracture the commnity, it will split up thos who like brink and those who could care less for it. Many people payed full price, we should get a free DLC. The game is less then 2months old and already down 33% in price and many will be able to get it for that price PLUS THE FREE DLC. If you jump in later then that and are getting a discount of 33% or more based on used copies, more price drops over time then why should you be rewarded for it? DLC will prob be no more then $10max so even if you jump in late you are still getting everything for less then many of us you bought it early and its still cheaper then many other games that are older…

Its not like this is COD where the price stays $60 for 6+months and you have to pay another $45 to play all the maps with everyone. If anything SD/Bethesda is giving a very good offer compared to many games and is up there with DICE and how they did the VIP codes for BFBC2. We should be backing this up rather then crapping on it, it would be a good model for future games and encourage people to jump on early but still be cost effective down the road if they have decent price drops.

^Ughh, don’t make this into a rehash of all the other DLC threads, I think the point of this was just to say what you were most looking forward to.

The level cap, abilities, maps, and outfits are a neat little bonus, but I’m more concerned with the tweaks the title update will bring to the game. While the goodies will bring some people back to try, if the core game isn’t better it won’t keep people staying. It seems like SD has been more active in the community lately, which is really encouraging. I’m really looking forward to playing an updated Brink.

Missing mah medic! lol j/k see you on sometime soon hopefully.

(Jimmy James) #8

I fail to see the distinction.

As for the rest of your tirade, no one is talking about the price of the DLCs. That’s not even what this thread is about anyway.

Yeah I didn’t mean for it to be like other DLC related topics, I was just curious to what people wanted to see in the future.

I should be on tonight. I will be trying to play with a friend who can play only a couple nights a week, and hopefully he will be interested in playing some Brink, too.

I played this morning with a Level 15 Medic/Engineer/Operative character, attacking on Security Tower. I was around as Engi for the first objective, helped hack the 2nd, after several attempts by multiple players managed to be the one to deliver the passcode, and then discovered that I was the only guy playing Medic for most of the rest of the match. The bad part about pub games is their (often) poor kit choices – in this one everyone was playing Op or Soldier. 0 Engi’s. 1 Medic. Crazy. I topped 10,000 in our losing effort.

I was equally surprised by no one playing Engineer. My impression is that it is the most-played class.

And (on topic) in the spirit of adjusting to the new weapon characteristics that have not yet been implemented on console, I tried out a new SMG and discovered I really like the Bupdaun. A lot.

I don’t have too many other newer games that I haven’t beaten to **** or that aren’t single player so I play this all the time waiting for all the end year games and begining 2012 games.

(St NickelStew) #12

Me, too. I think the release date for Brink worked well for them. Once Battlefield 3 and Skyrim are released my Brink playtime will substantially diminish. However, by then I will most certainly have gotten my money’s worth from my Brink purchase (purchases, really, as I purchased two additional copies as gifts for brother and friend), so I am content.

Ok Einstein, how exactly will it fracture the commnity then if it has nothing to do with it only being free for two weeks and then paid content after that?

“My only concern is that new maps will be exclusive to the DLC which would potentially fracture Brink’s player base.” Thats what you said… So ummm yeah contridict yourself much?

People that want to play the game will either get the game in time for it to be free or will have to pay a couple bucks down the road which shouldnt be a big deal considering the games price has already dropped. I dont recall the VIP codes being a problem for BFBC2 players, those that wanted all the maps paid the couple buck for the VIP pass, community was NEVER fractured. And for those who dont DL the DLC in time or get the game after the fact and dont get the DLC, well thats there problem, they obviously arent that into Brink and dont care to play with those who have the DLC, how hard is that to understand?

I guess you didnt notcie that I QUOTED YOU and responded to YOUR post and not the Topic starters post.

(nick1021) #14

The community was never fractured because IT HAD A HUGE FANBASE AND MAINTAINED IT’S PLAYERS BECAUSE IT WAS A GOOD GAME YOU ****. When there is a peak of 900 people on pc you can’t even think about paid dlc.

I fail to see the contradiction. Can you please explain exactly how I’m contradicting myself?

Well until you futher explain how its going to fracture the community its RIGHT THERE for you to read… You are saying it will fracture the community but has nothing to do with it costing money at all. So well then how exactly does it fracture the community again?

I mean unless you have inside info of more DLC after this first one and regards to it being free, free for a period of time(like current DLC) or costing money then where excactly are you getting this idea about the community being fractured because of Maps being exclusive to DLC?

Dont be one of those people who skips through all the post and only responds to the things they choose to and refuse to answer questions asked to them yet feel the urge to ask them back. If you can count the number of words in your response on your hands then you obviously have nothing good or informative to respond with.

My concern is that servers with the DLC maps will be unavailable to the players that don’t own that particular DLC. (Possibly hurting the already anemic player base.)

And again: I’m not sure why you keep returning to this idea that the DLC being free or costing money has anything to do with it. I’m about to drop $2K+ for a new computer just to run Brink, the cost of the DLCs has nothing to do with anything in this thread. Please try to keep your posts on-topic.

^ At first the DLC will renew interest. Especially since its free. Why not give it a go if you still own a copy of Brink? If not, it won’t matter. I think on console it will boost numbers a bit. And add some fresh content for peeps who are currently enjoying Brink. ~shrug~ cross the bridge of the people who don’t have it when you get to that point. in the meantime, there’s a good chance Brink gets a little kick-start for some folk. either way, its good to have a broad view and stay for the long hall.

(MrFoxer) #19

I think I’m done with brink till the dlc comes out, I play on ps3 and I’ve had just about enough of these idiot players lately, I’ve literally seen bots more competent.

(nick1021) #20

Wn you do realize that dlc will bring back a few players. Those few players will leave in 5 days tops (will probably leave in 2/3 though). After that it’s back to its dying state.
