Sten & Accuracy.

(puubert) #1

Recently, becoming bored with Engineer, I’ve started playing Covert. I love the little bags of death and my 5XP for stealing pants (Haha Kendle) But I also noticed, particulary when going back to Engineer, that using the Sten has noticeably improved my aim. I’m surviving more 1v1’s and often (not that often) killing 2, 3 or 4 people in one go.

I don’t know why. I know you have to aim better with the Sten, and aim a lot more for the head. I guess using the Sten teaches that simple technique pretty well, since if you can’t do it, you die. I know the improvement can’t all be the Sten’s better accuracy, because I have noticed an improvement with the Thompson and MP40.

Thoughts?

I should be a covert ops more often then!

Watch out SCDS_reyalP! :notworthy:

Once you reach LVL3 Light Weapons the Thompson and MP40 become non-overheating Stens anyway, so you only benefit from the Sten’s greater accuracy for a while, but it certainly does teach you to fire in short controlled bursts, and it’s that discipline that’s probably contributed most to your improved performance lately.

On RTCW one day, i was bored so i replaced the MP40 sound with the stens… my accuracy went way up.

I suck with the sten, watch out for [u]Korollary :moo:

If you can stand using it, the sten does teach discipline…

turn those Sten heaedshots into FG42 headshots and you’ll dominate any close combat battle.

(Ranstaton) #7

Turn those fg42 headshots into k43 headshots and you will kill thousands

Well usually I have to be doing very well to reach Level 3 Light Weapons in 3 map campaigns. And, mostly when I use the Thompson/MP40 I still don’t fire in short bursts, unless I consciously think of it. Sometimes the trigger just gets held down in panic. But for whatever, thank god for the Sten.

sten is really great weapon. good for aiming practice indeed. used it alot when i still played cov ops all the time.

Kendle, ah, didn’t realise you were playing as infamous/ken lately. Think I was playing against you the other day, on your server, and someone else from your clan. Were you the medic or the other class that was playing?

But yeah, I’d second the controlled bursts view in helping to increase accuracy. Of course you’ve got far less spray if you fire in those short bursts as opposed to unloading a whole clip at once.

You learn to dodge better as a covert as well, since you cant take as many shots. Good strafing and movement are key in surviving firefights. And as a cov, you really need to refine this ability if you hope to win a 1v1 vs a regular class. Playing as cov might have subconsciously helped your movement skills as well as your aim, helping you to be able to survive better and with more health.

cool how can i do this in ET??

(-=AcE=-Dragoon) #13

with sten aim for the head keep trying since it is a hard weapon (at first) it will make your accuracy increas like hell then after that try a k43 or a m1garant as engineer and always aim for the head except with knife aim for the back

/me is still waiting for a reply :disgust:

Basically you go into the pak0.pk3 and go to the weapons sounds folder, extract this folder. Then just take the sten sound, copy it and paste it in the mp40 folder and rename it to whatever the mp40 sound name is. Then you make that into a .pk3 file (pakscape is the easiest way), and it should run…

on nonpure servers or on servers which have the same “soundpak”

/me is very confused and decides to scrap the idea :bump:
