STEAM Uk

(celticfang) #1

And I’ll repost it here…
Okay, I’m at a loss here so I figured I’d come here and hope someone can help.
.
I got a copy of Brink yesterday and tried to activate it, only to be told that it isn’t buyable here (UK)

I know I can’t buy it on Steam, but I didn’t know I couldn’t even play the game I spent 45 pounds on.

Does anyone know why I can’t activate mjy UK copy? Steam support have sent me to the Steam forums, which pointed me here. From what I can gather, it’s some kind of exclusive deal, yet every other online store has Brink, just not Steam. Take a guess at which handles activation…

I currently have a 45 pound coaster mug that I can’t return (as GAME said I opened it) despite it not being said anywhere I couldn’t actually install or play it
Any chance of SD fixing this so UK players can actually play? I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place, a game I can’t use, and can’t return.

You should contact the support number on the back of the case, this is up to Bethesda to sort, they’re in charge of that stuff, not SD

(celticfang) #3

I’ve called, they sent me to Steam say8ing it’s up to Steam and Bethesda can’t help me, Steam sent me to GAME ciiting an exclusive deal, which GAME don’t have any record of in their head offices, GAME sent me back to Steam, Steam sent me here. And here I’m being sent back to Bethesda.

(Nail) #4

send a PM to badman outlining the steps you’ve taken to get this resolved, please be civil

(celticfang) #5

Done, now hoping he can help

(Nail) #6

Good Luck, kinds sucks the way that’s working for the UK

(celticfang) #7

Not just the UK, I’ve had people have the same problem in Singapore/Asia too

I’ll need luck. Weird thing is it seems to be a UK/Singapore onjly issue, least those are the two countries I know of that are affected

(Nail) #8

Very odd Bethesda won’t help, mind you they’ve been absolutely no help with anything Brink, it’s almost like it doesn’t exist to them

(celticfang) #9

^ Seconded, they told me to take it up with SD, that it’s their job, not Bethesda’s

o.o

(keefy) #10

Fupping ridiculous these crappy deals stopping UK customersl from buying a game that requires the platform you can buy it from to work properly.

If I were you I would just go get my money back.

(celticfang) #11

Wish I could, but it’s too late for that, I apparently ‘opened the boc’ (GAME’s words) and they can’t take PC returns…yet…they have a whole shelf of preowned PC titles. Including Steam games. All I want is to play the game I bought earlier, without running into errors.

Madness I tells ya

(Nail) #12

that’s very odd, sorry bud, I can’t believe no one will resolve this, is it the same for everyone in UK that bought at Game, cause I know some people in UK are playing

Just throwing this in here
I’m a UK player that bought BRINK from GAME and it activated just fine for me

However this was on release day
Since this day whenever visiting the Steam BRINK page, http://store.steampowered.com/app/22350/
It says:

Oops, sorry!
An error was encountered while processing your request:
This item is currently unavailable in your region

My thinking is this “exclusive deal” is that Steam aren’t allowed to sell BRINK to UK(/all non-US?) customers yet

So this comes down to you have bought an activation code, but it isn’t working
This is sounding like a Steam issue to me
If Steam customer services won’t help you then it’s up to Bethesda to either kick their asses for you, or to just give you another code that actually works

Finally, could you describe how are you trying to activate your code
That is are you opening up the main Steam window, clicking “Add a game” at the bottom of the screen and entering it there
Or are you sticking your DVD into the drive, attempting to install it then getting to a screen that asks for you code, which fails and the install doesn’t complete
If one method doesn’t work maybe give the other a try

I activated my game I got from Game on steam yesterday without issue.

I’m sure the issue will be resolved just take it cool man.

Either way what Bethesda has done with some dodgy deal by excluding steam sales in the UK does not look good and I’m starting to think 'id software and associates (including SD) made a mistake selling out to them. So far the Brink release has been a shambles, obviously rushed out product then getting shafted on steam even though you need it to play… wtf. And we thought Activision was bad? I would love to see what Carmack has to say about all this.

Probably because of the Adverts on TV that were funded by ASDA or whover at the cost of excluding steam. No doubt because they though the game was going to make it big on consoles so they shafted us PC gamers…

Whoever gave the go ahead for that at Bethesda is a cock of the highest order and it shows where their priorities are. They better learn their lesson from this before Rage is out but I wont hold my breath.

Tried both, no luck.

@abject, I’ve looked on D2D and other UK digital sites, they are selling Brink just fine, I tried a purchase on my card last night, it didn’t give any region error on D2D, so I’m wondering if it’s Steam being silly. Far as I know (and I asked GAME’s head office as stated above) they haven’t got any deal in place blocking Steam.

Friend in Germany can buy it, except he’s got the censored German version

(Joe999) #16

there is no censored german version. brink is “uncut”

(celticfang) #17

Ah, my bad then, I thought all games in Germany got blood removed and a lot of stuff cut

(keefy) #18

Keep pestering Steam and Bethesda they cant ignore you forever.
Ring them email them spam them

(celticfang) #19

Don’t give me ideas lol

I rang GAME and basically said it’s unfit for purpose and I’d like a refund, they said wait till Monday.

Got a sneaky feeling they’ll say yes after seeing I can’t activate it on their machines

EDIT: LMAO? Now they call me and tell me that it is on Steam? Okay, confused

(Wepohn) #20

Yeaaap, this is bugging me.
