Tell them to exchange it for another copy, the steam activation key you have must be screwed up… mine worked fine, must be luck of the draw? Get it swapped.
STEAM Uk
Even though the game isn’t available through the Steam store, you can still activate your store-bought game copies. Either use the installer on the DVD, or use the ‘add a game, activate a product code’ option in the Steam interface.
Sorry RR2DO2 but me thinks you didn’t read the entire thread
The issue is that his store bought copy won’t activate
Both the methods you said I already suggested and he said neither worked
RRD, to clarify, I get the ‘oops this item is not available in your region’ message when I try to activate it either way you said.
Can you dig around and shed any light why please? I’ve had similar issues with games gifted to me from the US that aren’t buyable here
EDIT: Not just me now, http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1911799 is another case, add Iceland to the list of countries you can’t install Brink in.
EDIT 2: Tried again, no luck and Steam keep telling me to contact SD for a refund. I’d like to know just how you guys at SD can refund me the money I paid to GAME, not Steam
Bumping this, got another copy, not able to activate that one either. Both methods that RR2 and others said still give me the ‘this item is not available in your region’ error when i try to activate.
I’ve now got two copies, first from GAME as I saiid, second from D2D.
I know you’ve trodden this path before, but I’d take it up with Steam Support - slowly, clearly, explain to them everything you’ve done (in point-form so they don’t get lost reading lots of text).
You may get a “standard response” at first, but politely press further explaining how others in the UK have managed to activate their games so there must be something wrong with your Steam account (and that Steam Support should check further); after all, you’re not trying to purchase through Steam you’re just trying to activate your perfectly legitimately bought game.
If you can at least get one copy working, you can then either try for a refund on the other or gift it or whatever. I’ll bite my tongue now on how this whole sorry episode does not reflect well on sales/marketing in general (not just SD/Beth in particular).
I did fire off a ticket after my post and got a ‘take it up with D2D’ respionse, I’m currently explaining my situation with Steam support. Somehow I think not being able to activate both my bought copies…is grounds for two refunds
is grounds for two refunds
and a box of cookies, and a pony ride, and a freakin APOLOGY
I’ll take that PLUS a second pony ride thanks
On a serious note, everyone I speak to at D2D or Steam still, for some bizarre reason, believes SD can fix it. I got nothing but ‘post on the developer’s forums’ constantly. Least D2D gave me my money back
