stats and ranks

There is both the campaign system like we had in Wolf: ET (3 maps combined to create a campaign where skill progression and rank are persistent from one map to the next) and a persistent stats/achievement system. We do however want to avoid encouraging people to treat stats rewards as a personal mini-mission because often that goal is unrelated to winning the game. We are still working out the leader board decisions. Personally I don’t like them, but I know people who love them.

can’t say i’m a fan of implementing a ranking system either. while i read in the cgonline interview that their ranks would be a better indication of teamwork than other incarnations i can’t help but worry that people will still find a way to exploit the system to raise their rank instead of helping their team. to hell with the people that live for stats.

on a side note i’d also rather just do away with unlockable items altogether and just have all equipment available from the get-go for a level playing field throughout the campaigns, but i know this has been a part of ET before QW so i doubt that’ll be revamped any time soon. =P[/quote]

At least the unlockable items are not persistent, nor will you be able to buy “booster packs”.

If you want all the stuff from the beginning, a mod could fix that. To me, it would only be good for competitions.

From what I remember, equipment becomes available as it’s needed for the objective, not really an “unlockable” like in other games

i m not really a friend of these XP and ranking stuff! if they can implement it like this that you will earn XP weh you really help your team, then its okay! otherwise its just a waste of time!

i hope they will create a working XP system which indicates who really did something for the temawork!

I think it would be OK to have it as server option.
Like XP save for “W:ET:Pub”/“W:ET:No Quarter” or “W:ET:Jaymod” (although not sure if this is a feature of Jaymod).

I personaly very much dislike the xp systems. I think ET would have been way more kick ass without it, but it does. So i still favor origional RtCW over enemy territory. I used to play RtCW every day i possibly could. But since ET came out and everyone moved to it, ive moved on to other games sadly. Id say the xp system is the biggest reason i stray away from et, along with other small things.

Why not make all of this optional.
Like the various mods of W:ET do.
In Pro (and Pub) it’s possible to disable XP and to set a certain rank.
In Pub it’s possible to have XP save.

So everyone can find a server that suits his needs.
If there’s a server with these settings of course.

imo it would be better if player ranks were chosen from

total xp / total time played
and a minium amount of total xp for each rank

so you cant jump stright into the game and shoot stright up to general but you also have to be a pretty good player since you just cant play for years till you have gatherd enough experience to reach the upper ranks

EDIT// pehaps only look at the last 25 hours of played time or something so it looks at how a player plays now rather then including all the time when he first started and probably want as good as they are now

total xp gained in the last 25 hours / 25 (if player has over 25 hours of playtime)
and minium amount of xp for each rank

Don’t like stats, makes ppl play for stats and themselves, not their teams.

(carnage) #10

i wouldnt mind stats if they realy meant something. if a player asks you to folow him it would be good if you could point the corss hairs over him and see his rank. If hes a 3 star general then why not your in safe hands. But if its private first class and hes been playing the game for about 3 minutes then why waste your time

In bf2 i got bad stats:( But i still play Eurocup.

Would you follow me?

i wouldnt realy pay much attention to stats in bf2 at all. It seems that you just play for long enough and eventualy u get the ranks. All they show is that the higher your rank the worse your sex life is since you spend all day on bf2

it would be nice to have a stats system that had a better indication of player skill. I understand in comp play starts dont realy matter much and clans know what players are good and who is not. But as a pub player imo anyhting that helps 12 random people thrown together coridinate better and work more as a team is a good thing

The game doesn’t reward playing XX hours, or endlessly ‘griefing’ the enemy: a higher military rank is a valid reflection of team-playing ability. A high military rank in ETQW is something a player can be really proud of, rather than a reward for bloody-minded persistence.

I like that…from Locki interview part 2 somewhere :expressionless:

The XP system in ET is flawed for 2 main reasons:-

  1. It promotes selfish play rather than team play because people play for their stats rather than their team.

  2. Because ET’s XP system also provides “power-ups” the stronger team generally becomes stronger as the game progresses, meaning a game that starts slightly one-sided becomes ever more one-sided the longer it goes on.

Having not played ET for over a year now, and having not played on anything but ETPro servers with XP disabled when I did play, it’s been at least 2 years, probably more, since I had to endure the “fun” of being TK’ed by a fellow Engie so he could plant his dynamite and get the points rather than allowing me to plant mine etc.

I “look forward” to seeing how ET:QW’s stats system works.

Having said that I’m encouraged by the fact they’re not persistent, which was my biggest concern, and as long as there’s an OFF button in the server config for the stats system I don’t care how it works tbh.

Many servers nowadays modify the xp system in some way or another. I do agree that a strong team can lay down some serious damage on a weaker team and only get rewarded for it but if you find a good server thats well adminned that problem is minimised and as for asshat engies killing you for dyno, you never need worry about that anymore, its the rambo meds you need to watch out for.
