Stat Tracking

(Apples) #21

Ever tryed to play a game where no one in your team is a decent killer vs 12 killing machines in ETQW? Generaly it ends like that :

  • “17:50 STROGGS win”
  • “FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU ! ! !”

So please stop saying that killing in an FPS is not important o_O, I cant even find a word to describe how this idea is stupid… Nothing personal here, but cmon, even if killing ISNT the whole purpose of the game, you simply CANT win a map if you’re too much outgunned.

Peace

Well you have to be alive to complete the objective, and the best way to ensure you stay alive is to kill the enemy 1st… so yes agreed.

(Apples) #23

Captain obvious at your service man

(.N.E.R.D.) #24

Kill everything !!!

(LyndonL) #25

+74534 Apples.

The best player in the world can still be shut down if their team is crap and the other team is full of good players. When a team works together and travels in squads and are decent aimers they devastate.

(Nail) #26

Doesn’t really work in this case, since that 10-in-1 has a hefty pricetag compared to just the chess set

nah, can get both at the “buck or 2” store

(Herandar) #27

So tracking kills is okay?

(Nail) #28

nope, only deaths should be tracked, that’ll show you how well you’re doing

(LyndonL) #29

Kills and Deaths are subjective to the situation. I would argue that lots of deaths whilst defending is an indication of a good player (to an extent) since they are getting out there and trying to slow down the enemy. Just cause you died 20 times in a round whilst defending doesn’t mean you didn’t also take 20 people at the objectives out…

Neither stat is a good one to track since people will focus on either.

  • “Wow I’m a 1337 killer, I did 30 kills woo. I’m gonna go spawn camp to rack up more.”
  • “I died 30 times? I’m not going to get in and defend this next round cause my death rate is too high.”

The kids will think like that.

(Nail) #30

with only deaths, there is no ratio

(SockDog) #31

Except the ratio of your deaths to everyone elses.

(Nail) #32

only if tracked globally, if it’s a personal stat, there’s no ratio

(LyndonL) #33

At any rate (some) people will see a lot of deaths and be put off by it. Stats of any nature will influence certain people negatively.

I don’t care personally. I’d be happy to see Kills and deaths as a personal stat post match just to see how I went. It wouldn’t change how I play especially since noone sees it but me.

(Nail) #34

objectives completed is the only stat that matters in SD games, assists should also count

People, young or old, that think like that are not going to need the validation of a stats page to get to that point. They’ll do it anyway.

Still, defending the objective WITHOUT dying 20 times is better.

Killing more then dying is ALWAYS better. It sure is a way to tell how good a player is imo.

You could gather all the intelligence you want, or capture as many CP’s on the way, if you’re k/d ratio is 1/50 your still a crap player. Someone with a higher k/d could do the same things as mentioned, and even better.

EDIT: However, I think for a better tracking would be kpm/dpm

(Kills per minute/Deaths per minute)

(SockDog) #37

The K:D is just a fragment of the statistical picture and shouldn’t be used to judge a player. This is entirely the problem with public statistics, misplaced valued and interpretation.

(Crytiqal) #38

Say you have to defend an objective, it goes a lot better when you don’t die all the time but kill.

Say you have to attack an objective, it goes a lot better when you don’t die all the time but kill.

Say you have to capture a CP, it goes a lot better when you don’t die all the time but kill.

Say you have to escort someone, it goes a lot …

(X-Frame) #39

Whatever statistics that involve the objectives are fine with me, though winning has always been my biggest priority. I will babysit a territory that is a weak link in our team’s defense just to make sure nobody gets through, even if the points payout is very small.

Though I guess I like Score Per Minute as my favorite statistic.

I’m not saying K:D is irrelevant. I’m saying it is a single piece in a statistical picture. If a Medic has a great K:D that’s great. If they also then have a very low revive statistic you may start questioning if they are being a good medic for the team or just playing TDM alongside everyone else.

Any one statistic is unlikely to give a true picture of a player but people are very quick to forget that and place enormous significance on the most flimsy of numbers.
