Random 4s stuff from tonight, #carryforce. Was watching some of Destiny’s vids and found a great quote for Toka, “Strategy (and the understanding of strategy) doesn’t mean anything if you can’t macro” as he smurfed with mass queens in the lower leagues.

I haven’t touched Starcraft yet. I’m busy. Tokamak #535

You guyz talk is like chinese to me

(tokamak) #146

I love that. Last sunday I was sitting with a bunch of amazing geeks in a basement and their discussions about Star Wars were so high-level that it sounded like a different language as well.

Seriously though Apples, try the game, it’s been lowered in price now.

First I have to buy a new rig, then I have to buy me a new camera, then I have to pay bills and taxes, then I may be able to buy sc2  (well in one year or so)

But yeah its planned

(tokamak) #148

You got your priorities straight.

(Humate) #149

Theres a free version, if you dont have it already

PvP

My build was a 1gate expand which I had some success with against zerg.
I thought I would give it a go against protoss.
Until I get proxygate zealot rushed but I hold that off.
Thinking he gave up, I go to move out to expand and he had cannons all over the joint outside my main, supported with stalkers this time.

I had a few sentries so he couldn’t do anything, and that aloud me to go robo for immortals.
His stalkers got owned but there was simply too much stuff to cleanup outside my base.
He then went proxy stargate with voidray. His voidrays got cleaned up.
And then followed that up with DTs, that initially rooted me - but they got cleaned up after i got an observer.
While all this was happening I double ninja expanded, but I made the mistake of not cannoning them… DTs : /

I eventually lost the game, 25 minutes later.

It’s always void-ray/dt as a follow up to a failed rush. It’s just a given.

You may be playing too greedily. A failed rush means doesn’t mean you have to retaliate, you can just sit in your base, expand, macro and tech and let your advantage accumulate.

(Humate) #154

I teched up to chargelots with +2, couldnt really go collosus because he already had stargate.
Couldn’t go DTs because he had cannons all over his main and in front of my main.
I possibly could have gone haluc and try and use them as damage buffers to take out the contain.
Or something even simpler and ninja expand once instead of twice and 8 gate him. <- so yes too greedy

As for failed rushes against me, I usually expand behind them or tech. I’ll only ever counter attack straight up if i have blink, and even then i sometimes dont.

(tokamak) #155

Against Void rays or Dark Templar simple gateway units with observation suffice. That’s more than enough. Both units are horribly cost-ineffective once you’re prepared.

If he blew all his resources on cannons to contain, you should have been able to either go collossus and push out or just get a warp prism to his main with an immortal or two and add another few gates, but it would all depend on how far behind you were because of his proxygate (initial base scouting to counter that). If your micro/macro is better than his, you should be able to come out on top whenever cheese doesn’t work otherwise it’s just practicing your performance that is the main solution. I just taught a guy how to stop a 4gate as Terran, which took about 3-4 tries until he found just how dam easy the infamous “4gate to masters” strategy really is to counter.

Works best against zerg, though not as much vs prot or terran.

inferno:
I did go for warp prism backstab, he cannoned up and he had defensive DTs.
But I lost the game because I didnt punish the initial contain from behind, and I didnt protect my ninja double expansions.
Thats the thing about that particular game, it wasnt that his ideas were any good, or the unit control was decent - it was me making the wrong reads.

Just had a game where a Terran tried to planetary rush me.
I went fast voidray - gg

What would have happened if you went 3 gate or robo, but not voidray :stuck_out_tongue: You would have straight up lost after his landing, and his lolol 10 seconds time from the landing, up until he finally unloaded his scvs => it took him 10 seconds to realize that his cc already landed

From this i am glad that i have creep. Also reduces stupid canon rushes to some extend if you are playing zerg. Not that i say that i do not know how to defend this, but i admit to myself, once this thingy lands, and i have no air units, its game over for me as Protoss. As Terran, well, lit off, fly to somewhere else lol. As Zerg creep protects me. But, the best counter to this is definately to take a probe, and run it under his landing surface area. Requires some micro and fast reaction from the point you see his stupid cc flying in your base, until it lands. If you manage to put whatever unit straight under it, you win.

(Humate) #160

The moment I saw the thing flying in the air, i knew i won the game.
So yes, if I went robo instead of stargate that wouldnt be the case.
Thats not really saying anything though
